Um . . . I hate to break the bad news to you, but Bill won't return until late epic tier. Sorry, folks.
: Re: Where's Bill?
: Robot Master June 05, 2010, 01:53:38 PM

Late Epic Tier? Christ Titties...I've gamed with so many passive aggressive monsters that I've never been in a game that's gone past maybe 10 levels.

Way to go, guys.

Well that just makes me mad >:( and sad :(...

Bill did run a D&D game last summer that I played in and recorded. I'll get around to posting it eventually.

Also if you contributed to the Codex ransom, one of the preview games is Bill's first game of Don't Rest Your Head.

Not if you like me at all, you won't.
That game had the stink of unemployment and relationship heat-death all over it.

Meanwhile, back at the topic...

My words to Ross following the dinner party game (24, I think?) were that I didn't like caring about a game - an avocation - as much as playing with Mike was making me. The man is a textbook on applied logical fallacies. I realized that I was never getting anywhere near character motivations most nights because my mind was tossed off track every 7.3 seconds by hip-hop lyrics or 'Like a boss!' Then, when I tried to do something, I'd get shouted down, and any coherent criticism would just get steamrolled. Remember kids, no gaming is better than bad gaming, and the swirling vortex of Mike-suck was rolling right over the awesomesauce of Ross, Tom, Dan, and Cody.

Oh, and Zoidb-uh, er, Jason!

Then I started working overnights, and didn't want to have to leave the game in time to make it to work by 10.
However, I have left the vampire schedule behind, and am back in New World, and running another Don't Rest Your Head this weekend, and maybe getting aorund to some Dogs in the Vineyard whenever I get the ambition to write the author/publisher and get the copy I paid for in January :)

I know that many people have had a problem with Mike and his shenannigans, but I think it's funny because he is so ridiculous. I just can't comprehend some of his decisions and let's face it, liar or not, Mike had some really entertaining stories and I like to believe that they are all real because he is just that much man.

At any rate, it's good to have Bill back because he knows so much about the system and he plays interesting characters.

Billy Joe Bob Mcelroy and Truck-Hammerzilla are personal favorites of mine.

One of my long time players is a combat monster who doesn't talk in character much at all. Whenever I want him to open up during a game I look across the table and quote Dan: "Well, personally I want to hear what Truck-Hammerzilla has to say about this."
: Re: Where's Bill?

+1 for Bill.

Bill running Don't Rest Your Head was pure goodness...

You know, after listening to the last several episodes of the D&D campaign and having to listen to Mike spout off (to be fair his facts right/wrong ratio is about 50% in any given game) I have to say that I don't blame you Bill...

I think I've posted previously (in the show comments) about Mike's need to "dominate" play and how it can be distracting. I'm not knocking Mike, but I think there are times when he should just settle down and let EVERYONE enjoy the game...

Ross, don't be stingy with those APs and yes, I contributed my 20 spot to the ransom and I plan on contributing to Tom and Aaron's project. However, I want Bill on a few of the games that Aaron runs!

Hey Ross, there's a new fund raiser idea for you. We do a Walk-A-Thon but everybody sponsors RPPR players. Run a CoC game Tomb of Horrors style where each player gets a number of backup characters determined by the money donated to their name by fans. Last man standing wins.

I'm sure Ross and the others are willing to take whatever goods and services you can provide for their the blue book value. Do you have any idea how many orphan souls it takes to run a Zoom H2 for just one Actual Play?

The point of this thread is to ask the question that no one else had been willing to ask and that is "Where is Bill?"

Cody, stop kissing Mike's ass! That is why I will never join the Cult Of The Crab. Pinchy is the only crab for me!!!

Tad, I have nothing to barter or trade but a stinky sock or two and I don't think Ross would be interested, or maybe he would?! Who knows!? ;)

They're like disembodied voices bringing wisdom, insight, knowledge, and frog snatch.

RIP Bill.

I've become pretty good at skipping the portions of the podcast where Mike opens his mouth. I'm working on writing a script that will filter him out completely and replace his lines with Mindflayer burps. I'll gladly share it when the it is complete.

Aww. Why so much hating on Mike?

I think that most of the time he's pretty quiet.

It's just that when he does talk it's... monumental.

The guy told another player to shut up until he was finished talking. The guy tells the DM that he has interpreted an ability wrong and demanded that he change his opinion. I don't care if it's Mike or James Wyatt playing, if they do those things, I don't want to listen to them.

I'm by no means a poet or a charmer, but lines were crossed.

Full blue book value on all items... no idea what the full blue book value is on a sock but the IRS tracks all sorts of things, it'll probably give you a tax break of some kind on that. Since "stink" is an optional feature I have to assume it only adds to value.

For the literal-minded readers, at this very moment I'm sitting in the hookah bar downtown with Dan and Jon Carter. 1.5 lb steak followed by citrus'n'cream tobacco = MELLOW BILL.

Thanks so much, I bask in your love and respect now, and in the monetary donations when they arrive. When should that be, this week some time?

Seriously, though, I did/do concern myself with how the fans see my contributions to the RPPR machine. Mike is entertaining, in a way, but he's also an ass, and somewhat counter-productive to enjoyable sessions, and I was waiting for the day when people began to see that.
Thanks for padding my ego!

Mike's problem is that he isn't actually a role player. He's a min-maxing video game player rolling dice. Every game I've played with him, he has essentially played a sociopathic combat junky who has no idea how to interact in the game world. Good guy to have in a Halo game, but the worst person imaginable if you have to negotiate a treaty to end a war.

was that the fear itself game I put in the previews? I also forgot about that
: Re: Where's Bill?
: Tadanori Oyama June 08, 2010, 12:58:59 AM
That was the Survival City Fear Itself game. Fourth of July "special" I believe. Cody was mayor elect and Mike was playing the teenage daughter of Kari's MILF character. Mike's character had recently killed her boyfriend, the same boyfriend that the mother had recently seduced. Among other things, Mike attempted to shot the shadow enemies.

You had some fucked up shit in that game. The people in that town freaked me out.

"Oh, the monster? Yeah, you don't want to initiate with like that. That'll mess you up good. You want to die a few times first, work your way up to that one."
: Re: Where's Bill?
: Patrick June 08, 2010, 01:49:59 AM
Bill, I think you add a lot to the games.

I think that you bring very strong element of thoughtful roleplay to the games that you participate in, not to mention a certain levity.

I like Cody for the exact opposite reason that I like you. I think that the both of you are basically two aspects of what I love about RPGs in general.

That being said, I find myself more and more annoyed by Mike. I agree 100% with your assessment; Mike really adds nothing to the games he participates in because he "plays" the same character...

I also find his antics tiresome, especially his tendency to "bully" and "talk-over" the other players. I think Mike honestly thinks that an RPG game is something you "win" and I find myself just wishing Ross would say "Yeah Mike, thats it! You win, YOU FUCKING WON DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS, now shut the fuck up for a minute and let the other RPPR guys ENJOY the game!"

Of course Ross is too diplomatic to do this, but a guy can wish.

That doesn't mean that I think Mike is a terrible human being or a bad guy. I just think that his urge to "dominate" the game and his ceaseless power-whoring is absurd and pointless and adds absolutely ZERO to the actual plays.

I mean hell, even Aaron is willing to explore different characters, albeit however tentatively, but the point is that he is willing to try!

Yeah, how can you forget Bill speaking to the Colonel in the first Divine Fire playtest (then having his character shot dead). And in the second playest betraying the party while mad and lamenting the loss of the artifact with the ghoul? Great days.

Wait . . . I'm the opposite of thoughtful roleplay? What the hell does that mean?!

I assume it means you act on instict, go with your gut, just react as the character would react without disconnect. As long as the instinct is table sex.
