RPGs / Re: Copper Age RPG?
« on: January 13, 2012, 12:33:06 PM »
It all depends on what you're shooting for there.  The copper age is merely a setting.  What you want to do in it will determine the system.

I don't know of any copper-age setting RPGs, but my default response for any place where I don't have a ready system is Savage Worlds.  It's fairly adaptable and is easy to make up new rules for.

I actually thought about using Savage Worlds, it would be a strange game though. I don't I'll actually run it. I was just thinking about time period game.

What would be a good system to replicate this era of history?

This topic is also known as listening to podcast about Copper Age.

Update: Thanks for the advice you guys!  :D

Analyzing this situation I've to a conclusion. My group is easily influenced by what they are playing (video game wise) and watching at the moment.

RPGs / Need Advice: trying new things

I have a very small roleplaying group me and 2-3 others. Now I'm fine with the group size but the problem I'm having is getting them to try new things. It's always some iteration of D&D. I'd like try something like eclipse phase, wild talents, fiasco, etc. My players are adverse to playing new things. I've done the I'm only GMing these games thing and usually someone else will say they'll gm some D&D. What do I do, any suggestions?

Superheroes are widely accept (nowadays) while Transhumanism and other such subjects covered by Eclipse Phase are rarely known to the populous. Superheroes are just easier to get if you are coming from Average Joe on the street. It's difficult to explain Transhumanism to some people, trust me I've had people get confused with Dystopian stuff let alone having to explaining some of the Transhuman concepts.

How many dice would you suggest for a Hunger Games game using Nemesis?

Edit: thank you for recommending The Hunger Games

If I created a slow fall type power, no damage from any fall, would it be a defend or useful?

that is a very broad question

can you narrow down what you need help with

I understand the height and width thing. Combat with games is just something you have to learn. For me it's the amount of stuff that goes into making a power, I am slight overwhelmed by it. I mean how would you go about creating someone like Gertrude Yorkes in the Runaways?

Edit: Ok nevermind I think have a better handle on it after reading some more.

honestly to me street level doesn't mean the character's power but the story's focus. What I wanted:

Focused on a single city or limited area of operation - the different strata of society, notable characters etc
Dilemmas connected to urban life and its core problems: crime (especially organized crime), ghettofication/gentrification etc
Emphasis on the personal lives of the characters and how they relate to normal people

Compare this to hero groups that are not street level

the FF (cosmic, dimensionally focused, seldom interact with 'normal' people)
Avengers (global security focus, no connection to real life issues)
Justice League (seldom focus on personal issues - team protects entire universe)
Exiles (multidimensional focus)
Doom patrol (not focused on single city - however they do emphasize relating to normal people and how difficult it is)

Street level characters and groups
Spider man
Punisher
Bat family
Heroes for Hire
X-Factor - perfect street level hero team
Powerpack
Runaways
The current version of X-men is somewhat street level - they stay in San Francisco for the most part and a lot of the comic deals with how they relate to society

Thank you, Ross and of course the rest who answered as well.

What are some suggestions for running a wild talents game with no experience in ORE games?

The term street-level was being thrown around a lot in the first half of episode one. I was curious as the definition of that term in the context of the fiction of New Arcadia. For example what heroes, in comics, would constitute such a term?
