General Chaos / Re: GenCon 2014 and the 5th RPPR Fan Meet-up
« on: January 19, 2014, 02:56:45 PM »
My attendance still depends on whether I can find a teaching job or not (GenCon really sucks at scheduling around schools and has for years), but I've submitted a bunch of events anyway. Opportunities look pretty bleak on the employment front, so in all likelihood I'll have the free time to attend.

So far I'm going to be running Bryson Springs and The Fall Without End in CoC and ToC, respectively. I'll also be running a Better Angels game called Think of the Children (it's the evolved version of the Spared and Spoiled game recently posted). Finally, in anticipation of Red Markets, I'm going to be doing a panel with Rob Boyle and Ross about using economic theory in games called "Money is the Root of all Fun."

We might be doing a RPPR's Game Designer's Workshop panel as well. I've just got to get some ad copy and scheduling hammered out with Ross Payton's China-loving ass first :-)

Any other suggestions for panels, other than me screaming BUY MY BOOK at every passerby in the hallways.

Caleb is going to GenCon!? Damn! Now I'm really kicking myself for not being able to attend. That's the crappy part about living in SoCal: The rent is too damn high!

I can assure you that more pictures and videos will be available this year as both myself and my brother will be bringing cameras.

Besides, this is the 5th Meet-Up; time to get serious about.

Awesome sauce!  ;D

I wanna go to GenCon so very badly this year. However, being a working schlub prevents me from doing it.

We need some video and pictures of the RPPR meetup this year, if only to satisfy the vicarious whims of those of us not sensible (or crazy) enough to show up this year!

Man, I wish I was going to GenCon this year. I would be cool to meet my fellow RPPR'ers...

Is Tom running any games at GenCon this year?

General Chaos / Dresden Files... A Testimonial!
« on: May 20, 2012, 02:57:18 AM »
I am not normally a shill for any particular product or service. Okay, scratch that and let me start over again...

I am not normally a shill for any particular product or service except for Roleplaying Public Radio and Ross "Buy-My-Book" Payton, but after playing a short Dresden Files scenario last night, I must admit that I really, REALLY like the system.

Once you get past the conceptual difficulties, namely; a game that asks, nay, demands that you be creative and build a character, the game mechanics themselves are pretty fun. Our session effectively ended with a botched kidnapping attempt, an invisible van, a vampire coed, cheerleader loudly demanding to know where her boyfriend went and one Call Of Cthulhu inspired Sherlock Holmes wannabe fleeing the scene of the crime screaming "Vampire! Vampire!"

All in all, it was a pretty fun night.

Any of you guys tried this particular system yet and if so, do you have any thoughts or anecdotes you would care to share?

PS: I've attached the character sheet for the character I played last night, just in case anybody is interested

Awesome! I have an idea for a Chinese zombie story that I want to write.

Sent from my MB865 using Tapatalk 2

It better not involve the partially buried temple mound of an ancient Chinese ruler and tens of thousands of his terra-cotta warriors that actually contain the desiccated and withered bodies of undead zombie soldiers who wait to destroy anyone foolish enough to disturb the immemorial slumber of their evil necromancer king!

I need to travel beyond the bounds of our known Minecraft world. I'm building a boat and leaving tonight!

Aaron for the win!

I have listened to every single RPPR AP (yeah, yeah, I was here at the very beginning) and I can attest to the fact that some of Aaron's early stuff was hard to listen to. Its been a pleasure to hear him develop into a confident and entertaining cast member of RPPR.

I would really love to play through one of Aaron's scenarios at some future point, I just gotta save up for next year's Con!

Aaron is one of my favorites and definitely deserves his own fan thread... ;)

I think I want to go even further out. I think I might pack up my diamonds, iron and food and head on out into the great wild yonder!
