RPGs / REIGN
« on: April 19, 2012, 02:54:39 PM »
I am considering buying a copy of REIGN, as the ORE is awesome and I'd be interested in seeing it in a Fantasy format.  Has anyone out there played the game or have any thoughts, recommendations or reviews?

RPGs / Period Accurate combat.
« on: April 03, 2012, 04:33:35 PM »
I've recently started a rather massive undertaking in writing an RPG that, without becoming overly complex, creates a free-form magic system and accurately mimics period combat, maintaining a high degree of lethality while emphasizing the concept that skill was the ultimate decider in combat, rather than luck.  I've been doing quite a lot of digging into historical manuscripts (namely Talhoffer) in an attempt to semi-accurately (I do not quite enough dots in scholar to be able to call my self a true researcher, and sometimes movements just don't translate well to rolls) reproduce combat from the 15th century to the renaissance.  If anyone out there has any idea or perhaps training in historical fencing I'd love to get some input or design ideas.  I won't bore anyone by posting any portion of the rule set here, but if anybody has any interest in this sort of thing I'd love to compare notes.  Beyond the fighting, I'd like to get some insight into how the King's Court functioned, and some general historic information on life from the 15th to the 18th century.  Thanks for any insight!!!

RPGs / Historical Nazi Occultism... interesting?
« on: October 24, 2009, 01:53:34 AM »
I'm trying to start a horror game based around this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H%C3%A1vam%C3%A1l#Gesta.C3.BE.C3.A1ttr

I'd like to run it in WW2, and thought that these lines would lend the game both believabillity, (real historical connection to Nazi occult research) and depth, (cool poetry in latin????)

Anyways: implementation isn't really coming to me.  Any thoughts?

RPGs / Dealing with buisy schedules...
« on: October 07, 2009, 10:17:38 PM »
So, the group I'm currently running with is having a lot of trouble with conflicting schedules... so I came up with the following idea to try and make it work.  My new group seems to be fairly dedicated to gaming so I'm hoping I can make this work, though it'll take a lot of time and effort on the part of the players.

This concept is designed for Hunter: The Vigil, and I'm not sure how well it will work but the idea seemed to be worth mentioning.  I'm planning on having each player come over as thier schedule allows, playing individuals operating within the city in one or two player groups.  The kicker is, the groups (until everyone can work through schedules to meet up) is that they only form of communication they have is e-mail and  posts on a myspace site I'm setting up.  The real bitch is due to government interest in the paranormal, they have to keep everything in code to avoid getting caught (and possibly subsequently torchered) by jack booted government thugs.  I think it could make for a fairly interesting game dynamic... Thus all the information from each character will have to be posted and analyzed real time.  The plan is to have each character specialize, relying on a heavily investigative game.

What do you guys think?

RPGs / Modern / Near future game technology ideas
« on: October 05, 2009, 02:12:47 PM »
One of the hardest things about writing a modern high-tec game, or a near future game (mutants and masterminds, spycraft, etc.) is developing the technology used in the game.  Here's a site I found with some interesting gaming options... if anyone else has useful resources I thought this would be an interesting place to post.

This site is ripe (in my opinion) with all sorts of ideas for jack booted government thugs, as well as plausible conspiricy theories etc.

General Chaos / H.P. Lovecraft
« on: October 01, 2009, 09:09:35 PM »
Anyone else out there a fan of the works of Lovecraft?  I've picked up two of his books and they've been occupying a lot of my time these days.  A lot of interesting horror game ideas in them, not to mention they're just good reads.  Anyone have any particular reccomendations on books by him?
