RPGs / 10 manliest RPG's
« on: October 20, 2010, 01:28:15 AM »
I think we need to compile this list. I mean, after all, how will new players know what RPG's are the manliest around?

I think the list should start off with Dark Sun, then with Dark Heresy continuing on with Deadlands, Geist, Legends of Anglerre, Paranoia, Scion and The Dark Eye.

Any thoughts?

RPGs / Intra Player Conflict
« on: October 15, 2010, 01:12:00 AM »
I have two new players in my All flesh must be eaten game.

For some reason they don't want to explain or talk about, they can't stand each other.

From what I've gotten, it's because both don't know how to use the system, but one thinks he does and grows impatient with the other player who doesn't understand what it means when we say "make a perception roll"

So far i'm trying to actually solve it with them, but since they are both friends, I don't want to side with one over the other. Any advice on how to deal with this?

General Chaos / Help with movie name
« on: June 17, 2010, 12:30:17 AM »
A few years back I watched a little bit of a movie that I cannot remember the name of.

It took place inside a bar, or inn, or something like that.

It was a monster movie, and a comedy, but the thing that made it different was when new people showed up there was a subtitle that explained their role and how long they were expected to live.

Does anyone have any idea what this is called? It's driving me crazy.

By god, this campaign setting is brilliant, and retarded both at the exact same time. Steampunk mechs.

Have you ever wanted to pilot a giant dragon that's powered by steam? YOU CAN!

Did you ever want to make a mech made up of dead bodies, also powered by steam? YES YOU CAN!

General Chaos / My new book
« on: June 05, 2010, 08:13:29 PM »
So I've recently started writing a new book, and it's the first time I've done the humour and crime thing. Before you mention anything, yes I know it's similar to the Dresden Files, and no I had not read any of it before writing this. There are plenty of other supernatural P.I's to be influenced by.

In any case, I'd really like advice and critiques from people, what to change, what could be better, what you like, what you didn't, things like that.

Chapter 1, is NOT to be taken seriously. I have it in my mind, that if this gets picked up and I have the opportunity to write more than one, the first chapter in every book will be some random, crazy insane shit that is so out of this world that you just go along with it. It's not supposed to be part of the overall theme of the books, but does contain information important to it on  occasion. If people feel it's better to either drop it, or alter it so it isn't as stupid, well I'll probably change it some.

I'll also be posting in here when I've updated a new chapter, made changes to an old one, and other things like that.

RPGs / Legends of Anglerre
« on: May 08, 2010, 10:24:42 PM »
I just bought the pdf today, and I am very impressed with this book. Good writing, simple and concise rules and as usual, the Fate system is still epic. I've got to admit though, when i first read about the Fate system, I was a little iffy on it, but after the Dresden Files RP and now this one... I'm really starting to like it.

RPGs / Dresden Files RP
« on: April 28, 2010, 06:50:44 PM »
So.. has anyone managed to get their hands on this one at all? (I know I have, legally)

From what I've read, and that's very little, it seems to keep in the spirit of the world pretty well, though I'll need to do a little more reading to do so.

RPGs / Don't Rest your head
« on: April 21, 2010, 01:40:52 AM »
So I felt like giving my opinion on one of my favorite RP's, and probably one that's not well known, at least in my city it's not well known.

Don't rest your head, is probably the creepiest and most messed up Rp I have ever read.

From the actual site: Don’t Rest Your Head is a sleek, dangerous little game, where your players are all insomniac protagonists with superpowers, fighting — and using — exhaustion and madness to stay alive, and awake for just one more night, in a reality gone way wrong called the Mad City. It features its own system, and is contained entirely within one book.

And a review I found that basically sums up my opinion of this setting.

“Makes the Call of Cthulhu sanity death spiral look like a handful of baby asprin.”
“… it plays like Call of Cthulhu on crystal meth… This game is really well done, no matter what your dreams are like. And if, like mine, they come from a rich diet of Grant Morrison and H.P. Lovecraft, then this game will tear open your skull and let the monsters in.”

The entire point of this game, is simply to stay awake. By any means necessary. When you fall asleep, they bad guys get you and you die. It's pretty simple and very well done. Well, you don't actually always die, just most of the time. Closer to 99% of the time whenever they fall asleep they die. But, I've seen them survive... once. When the character falls asleep, stuff happens. Nightmares that are so screwed up that you'll start to think you've actually gone insane while writing it. For example, one of the nightmares they give you is that the character actually is an ant-hill. They are a living breathing ant-hill with ants crawling under their skin. Instead of bleeding when you're cut, thousands of ants spill forth and begin to cover the your body, biting, scratching.

Of course you need to change the nightmares depending on what the character is afraid of.

It's one book, everything you need to run a game is contained in it. Character creation is really simple and fun.

There are actual mechanics for character development and how the character would react. Characters get to progress in mind and story, and there are good reminders on your character sheet of what he or she would do in any given situation.

When you create a character, it's more of a questionnaire than a character sheet. There's five questions to help you determine what kind of character you will make.

All in all, I highly recommend this RP. It's beautifully well done, the writing is create, the pictures are creepy and I can still see some of them when I close my eyes. The rules are clear and concise for the most part, with a few of them needing a few re-reads to fully understand.

I give it, 4.5 stars out of 5.

RPGs / All flesh must be eaten
« on: April 20, 2010, 01:02:16 AM »
So, I've been considering buying this RP, but I'm a little iffy on it. I've heard some really good things about the setting and the mechanics, but I've also heard some people who hate it to a complete and utterly confusing extent.

It seems to me like it's the kind of thing you either love or hate.

As for me, well the idea of playing as a zombie and going around, eating people? Hell yeah!
