RPGs / Launching an investigation
« on: June 05, 2013, 03:33:25 PM »
Im kinda halfway working on a game based in the My Little Pony: Friendship is Witchcraft world (a MLP abridged parody), and am kinda stuck right at the beginning. So could use a little advice on how to get stuff started.

For a little backstory;
Princess Cadence Notevil Goodpony has gone missing on her wedding day (the pcs wouldnt know, but shes basically
murdered by Twilight Sparkle
so she
could marry her own brother
(they're not biologically related though, so its totally not creepy) )

The PC's are refugees from Ponyville, who were left homeless after the Moon crashed into the town and fires ravaged through it (also Twilight's fault) and a terrifying tentacled monstrosity began engulfing parts of the town.

They were helped by the kindness of Princess Cadence Notevil Goodpony's various charities. Given food by the food drives she organized, and even their new homes were hoof built by the Princess herself on lands she personally dug mines out of after the war to make room for the housing and the playground in the park she regularly visited to tend the gardens where she grew organic vegetables to give to the poor.
---
From there though, I'm not sure how to tie them into starting to investigate what happened. My current thoughts are:

1. detective Hard Boiled, (who is a cliche'd noir private detective) thinks they had something to do with it, and is hell bent on pinning it on them, so they need to clear their names. (theyd all have ties to her in one way or another)
2. they work for Hard Boiled who wants to get to the bottom of it. (probably the easiest, but seems a cop out)
3. as they've been helped out tremendously by her charities they want to find her out of love and friendship (unlikely, as the defining characteristic of most all characters in FiW is they're pretty much sociopaths.)
4. just out for the reward
5. conspiracy theorists who think she was a robot the whole time and found out, causing an existential crisis catapulting her into a destructive rage and the Robot Police destroyed her and covered up the story, so theyre out to get the truth.
6. They're members of Cadence's country's government, tasked with finding her
7. They're robots programmed to find her
8. They're members of the Robot Police, who suspect she was a robot that went rogue after trying to marry her fiance only to realize she can't love, and they think she's hiding out plotting to destroy all that is good and biological so they want to find her to destroy her first.
9. Princess Molestia's fangirls/fanboys/deviant art friends, who hate Twilight and want to destroy her to get Molestia back on the throne to control the moon, so instantly suspect her even without proof and want to frame her if it comes to that.
10. just glance over the part of why, and make people say why as part of their characters backstory?

RPGs / Crappy CoC skype game looking for players
« on: September 08, 2011, 02:56:12 PM »
Just wondering if anyone has nothing better to do, I'm kinda looking for 1-2 players for a skype game of Call of Cthulhu (or possibly Delta Green, but most likely CoC), I'll be running a game Friday the 16th, ~6pm central

Set in the 90s, the PC's are members of an online newsgroup dedicated to paranormal, conspiracy theories, UFO's etc, and there's been talk of someone spontaneously combusted inside an amusement park.
Amidst all the weird theories and research to try to find who it could have been and what actually happened, some people have discovered that the amusement park is one of the last visited places of many people who were reported missing, some of their cars were found abandoned hundreds of miles away, and in different cities/counties/states, and no evidence of anybody going missing inside the park or in the surrounding area.
But several people on the newsgroups still suspect something odd going on there, either poltergeists, aliens, government death ray tests, or whatever their pet theory happens to be.

So, they organized their schedules, and a group of them are going there for a week to scope it out (if anything else, its a good excuse to hang out in person and amuse themselves at a big theme park.)

disclaimers: It could very well suck, its my first time running Call of Cthulhu, or running or playing any game in a couple years. The other people in the group will probably use very bad language, tell horrible inappropriate jokes, and in general be asses (think New World ep 2 + The Haunting), pretty much just posting this cause I said I would try and get another person or 2 and don't have any real friends (god damn can I sell a game or what..)

RPGs / Cthulhu Pre-gens
« on: August 29, 2011, 05:03:13 PM »
Is there anywhere that has a collection of pregenerated characters for CoC/DG? (either or, preferably both)

I've tried looking and can't really find anything, and the only generators I've seen don't do the skills.
If not, would anybody have a bunch of old PC's they could upload or whatever?

I've never actually made a CoC character, or ran a game of CoC, or played in one, and I'm giving GMing/rpgs 1 last go before I quit for good and don't want to put in the effort to try and craft the PCs without knowing too much about what they should have or not, for something that may be futile/may never happen in the first place, and my would be players are gibbering morons barely capable of rational thought with questionable literacy and heads as thick as all outdoors I wouldnt trust with plastic silverware, so there's no good god damn way Id let them try and make them (these people couldnt even get through the god damn rules for Risus for fucks sake, 6 pages...counting the introduction)

General Chaos / RPPRifftrax
« on: July 12, 2010, 11:33:11 PM »
What with the RPPR crew's appreciation of Rifftrax, and since they already have some decent recording equipment, soothing radio voices, and something approximating a sense of humor, I wonder if there'd ever be a possibility of them making an iRiff - http://www.rifftrax.com/iriffs. I know I'd buy that for a dollar! (or $1.99 or whatever)

Also if you've come across iriffs before and didn't know if there were any worth the money, the RiffRaffTheater guys are really good (especially Speed and Die Hard), and the Hor-RIFF-ic and Quip-Tracks ones are pretty good (especially Halloween III and Mission Impossible II).
