RPGs / EEEVIL!!!
« on: November 07, 2009, 10:39:39 AM »
So I have been running Castle Whiterock from Goodman Games for D&D 3.5 since January of this year, and in this time, I have managed to kill 7 player characters.  Its a crazy hard dungeon crawl.  I am a DM that lets the dice fall where they may.  I don't pull punches on damage.  If a player decides to go off on their own, they probably will die.  On thursday, the players and I had a discussion about continuing the Castle Whiterock campaign or starting something new and fresh.  At this current time in the campaign, there were only TWO original players from the start.  The original story was getting lost due to the new influx of player characters.

So I put this to a vote on whether to keep playing Castle Whiterock or start fresh.  Of my six players, 2 voted to keep on, while 4 voted to start something new.

This brings me to my point, we as a group decided to start a whole campaign dedicated to EVIL!!!  I always had intentions to GM something like this but never thought it would happen.  I have decided to start the players at 3rd level (still in the 3.5 edition), and I am allowing some monster races as player races (ie. vampires, werewolves, mind flayers, minotaurs, trolls, ogres, etc...) So far my players are Super excited to play.  They are all delving into using the Book of Vile Darkness and are all trying to figure out what they want to play.  This is my cast of player characters so far:

Human afflicted with werewolf lycanthropy (level 3 monster class)

Drow Dragon Shaman (who revers red dragons)

Grey Elf Wizard (conjurer) (who wants to play an alienist and study the far realm)

1/2 Black Dragon 1/2 Orc Dread Necromancer (who wants to play a true necromancer from Libris Mortis)

Tiefling Hexblade

and one player who is completely undecided???????

I have a lot of brainstorming ideas that I will like to use for the campaign(Orcus, Mephistopheles, drug smuggling, torture, and sacrifices are just some to start), but I would like to see what the fellow RPPR fan community have as any ideas on what to use in my total EEEVIL campaign.

Thanks guys.

I have always toyed with the idea of running a horror based game, and I always talk myself out of it due to the fact that I have never felt that I could be a good GM that could really get my players truly scared and thrown off their game. I always felt being scared is a state of not feeling in control of a situation. Anything that makes someone uncomfortable could make them truly scared. But what is that? So I enlist everyone here what makes you scared, freaked out, nervous, or uncomfortable?

Spiders?
Dark buildings?
Clowns?
Ghosts?
Heights?
Closed in spaces?
The food from your local crappy mexican restaurant?

I am looking for true fright. I would love to run a game session where people were really nervous about going home alone afterwards. It just seems very challenging to me to transfer that kind of fright into a role-playing game.  Is there anything that could be put in a RPG game that can truly make you scared?

RPGs / Gencon Events this year...
« on: April 20, 2009, 11:49:25 PM »
Hey I was just wondering if anyone else had any problems with the new Rubi system for signing up for events for Gencon this year.  the events just went active yesterday and i was wondering if anyone else didn't get their games yet like me.  The website has a problem taking credit card orders.

Another question, what is everyone looking forward to in Gencon this year?  Are people going to try and make it out to Indy.  I am signed up and looking forward to it (as long as I get the stupid events I want)

Ross, are you running anything this year?  ???  Any Monsters and other childish things?  Or how about a New world D&D game?  That would be awesome.

RPGs / The review of Paranoia XP
« on: March 23, 2009, 07:59:13 PM »
Hey just listened to the latest podcast today.  I will say that I love playing Paranoia XP with my friend who is a excellent gamesmaster for this game.  He plays the role of the computer to a tee.  I have played this game as one shots and enjoyed it every time.  I would be interested to see the game run as a little more serious campaign, but don't think it could be done as well as its has been in the one shots I have played in.  I just played in a game with my friend last Saturday, and it was a blast playing the role of the hygeine officer.  Remember, "A clean team is a mean team!"

Great podcast guys, look forward to each new one.  I am still listening to all the new world game sessions.  Loved the tides of doom so much I went out and bought the adventure book.  Love the supplemental stuff you added too Ross.  Thanks for all your hard work you guys.

Chris
