General Chaos / What did you play/run for Free RPG day?
« on: June 19, 2016, 09:11:34 AM »
So ,working with my FLGS , I ran The Play is the Thing:Macbeth and Eclipse Phase: Glory.
In Macbeth the dagger to kill King Duncan was changed into a rubber chicken that made squeeking sounds when you stabbed with it. In fact in the end all weapons were replaced with rubber chickens in the final battle between Macbeth and Macduff.

In EP, the best play was when they the Crited an sneak and were able to toss 4 Frag Grenades into most of the drones. Can we say 99 points of damage in the end. Then it turned into a running gun battle with the rest of the Breeders, one of the PC's took a hot face of Plasma so it wasn't pretty.

Ran a session of The Play is the Thing, used Taming of the Shrew.
The players right out of the gate changed the plot by the father, Baptista Minola changing the plot where he didn't want either of his daughters getting married. The younger daughter Bianca Minola, didn't like that decison and threw a hissy fit she was promtply locked up in her room with a guard standing out side.(another edit) We find out she didn't want Hortensio(edit) ,but actuall was in love with the Guard who was guarding her door. So when the suitors came disguised not as music teachers ,but as Horticultuist(edit) He rejected their offer and a fight broke out? (edit) It turned into a running Yakky Saks scene where Hortensio was killed by Petruchio(Villain onstage ability). While Petruchio left the house he was approached by Lucentio who was trying to convince Petruchio to help him rescue Bianca ,for it seemed that the "guard" who was guarding Bianca was actually Lucentio in disguise. Petruchio rejects that offer and chases off Lucentio by Baptista's order. It seems Petruchio is now working for Baptista(edit) as a knight.
Lucentio breaks into the house to rescue Bianca to escape and elope. They are caught by Baptista and Petruchio ,while trying to hide in Katherine's room. A swordfight ensues and Lucentio is killed by Petruchio (Villian onstage ability). Bainca throws herself on her love impaling herself on the sword that is sticking through Lucentio. (edit) Petruchio is then ordered to kill himself by Baptista for the death of Bainca.(edit)   Katherine then tries to use a knife to kill her father for she now wants to inhierit the whole estate and then she won't have to marry anyone(fails edit)
So we close with Katherine and Baptista surrounded by death and blood.

Therefore one of the comedies of Shakespear has turned into one of the bloodest on record.

So Reading through the book for monster creation I am a bit confused. I understand the hit locations and assigning dice to them.
Now if I read it correctly you get one  quality for free(Attack,Defend,Useful) that is before you add more stuff. So if you have attached 7-10 as a hit location then that means you get 15 dice worth of stuff, since you can't go over 10 then the other 5 points you need to use for qualities or extras. \

SO in the 15 example the first Quality is Attack(that is free), then the second Quality is Useful, that cost you 1 Dice. Attaching Wicked Fast 2 and Gnarly 2 to Attack cost another 4 so therefore that eats up the other 5 Dice which then drops your pool to 10.

Is that correct way to build the stat?

I have borrowed Ross' one Shot playtest for Wild Talents:Caped Crusaders and Cannibals and I have run it 3 times to just show people the world that is Wild Talents.

Now here are the different notes and anecdotes that have come out of the game sessions:

--in 2 of the games the players all piled into a Soccer Mom van and the Telekinetic lifts the van with his mind and the float down the street. They turn up the base and make the van do bouncing as it floats down the street, well the Ex-con was driving.

--in 1 of the games the Tech from the beginning gets gut shot and the PC's just leave him behind.

--in all three versions they kill Cutting Edge ,but in different ways
        1. set his head on fire
        2. use telekinesis to make his head bend the wrong way and snap around a building
        3. use the Invincible PC as a javelin and slingshot her into EDGE. HEAD SHOT!

--in 1 of the games they fly out of the city in said minivan into the sunset and see in there rear view mirror the city getting nuked.

--in 2 of the games they go after the cure to make it back to the IDEAL base. In 1 of those games granny gets bitten because she is being used as bait for the trap.

--in 2 of the games they encountered the alien warrior.
        1. they fight him and kill him.
        2. they send the elevator up and he gets lose into the city.

--in 2 of the games the Invincible PC can't stay clean for she is covered in gore and blood.

--in the last game 2 of the PCs were pretty much walking around naked for they lost their garments due to attacks or in one case the Elastic man formed into a puddle to go under a door ,but his shirt/pants do not make the trip.

--In all 3 games Granny is a ninja with her Walker, with using it as a weapon or blocking.

Thanks for all the fish,Ross and entertainment.

So played again with the Dragon Slayers playset this time with 4 players

To make a long story short the Location was :the upper level dungeon, it wasn't defined.  Now we all though the Dungeon was your traditional adventure ,but no The Dungeon was actually Mistress Mandy's Dungeon of Pain. Yes, that is right the whole game was inside a S/M club. It went wrong right from the start for we started our first scene with all the characters hanging from manacles and 3 of them naked. There was some penetrating with a certain talking spear and the Guild of the Pimps making an appearance. Would you believe that the Guild of Pimps all wear parachute pants and have Furry purple hats with a large feather sticking out of them.

OH fun was hand by all!

General Chaos / Re: Stories about Ye Olde D&D and the Satanic Panic

Ummmm..... When I was in like 5th grade my neighbor gave me all of his Magic the Gathering cards because his Mom was going to throw them away because she was told they promoted satan worship.(Hopefully that comes close enough to get me by... lol)
Yes, Magic did go through its whipping boy phase in the late 90's. The artwork on the cards were considered unholy and therefore would lead little Timmy down the road to damnation. I remember the card Unholy strength. In the 3rd edition it had a reverse pentagram on the artwork and in 4th edition they removed the pentagram ,but left the man holding out his arms. It looked pretty stupid.

I got to play my first game if Fiasco :the dragon slayers playset the other night.  It was just 3 players ,but that worked for it being our first game.

Ok we had player1:
To his left:
Relationship:Magic sorcerer/apprentice
Needs: to overindulged in wenches

To his right:
Relationship: War :Pacifist Healer/ Violent scoundrel
Location: the splitpenny thieves guild
So I was a Apprentice healer, who had a problem with the ladies.  I was the Assistant 'Fluffer'

Player 2: The master: Professor "Fluffer"
to His right: the apprentice
to his left: Relationship: Boss/Henchmen
Object: Catapult

He was the Master and hired the Henchmen to pull the Catapult around to use in assaulting the castle sieges. It can be pulled by 2 horse or just the Henchman. The master would keep calling his henchmen 'Boy' even though it was a women. He is a sorcerer and therefore is skilled in the art of 'fluffing'. Therefore he is Professor Fluffer. if you don't know what 'fluffing' is look it up but you might not want to know.

Player 3: The Henchman. Named: Pauline
She was violent person there was a hint that she could have had orcish encounters. She had killed many thugs that were sent to eliminate her. She thought very little of the Apprentice and resented her boss, who would call her 'boy'.

Act One: first scenes
We all get back from the latest siege for we were hired by the Thieves guild as backup artillery in the latest job. We all go inside and The Master demands payment and inquires about more jobs. Our Henchmen had filled the basket on the catapult with heads of all the thugs that were sent to kill her. He gets into an argument with the Guildmaster for there was about 20 odd heads in there and that was lost manpower for the Guildmaster. She was promptly escorted out of the establishment with catapult in tow.
The Apprentice hits on the first harlot he sees and is making progress towards a deal for services rendered. The transaction is interrupted by the Guildmaster for the Apprentice learns that this Harlot is off-limits due to her being the Mayor's only. The Apprentice is also escorted out of the building. The Master didn't notice any of this happening for he was using his time to try to set up more jobs and by the time he noticed that his companions were gone, for worse things were happening outside of the building.
It seems that while standing outside the Henchmen was Hench-napped by an Assassin and totally vanished from view. Oh the Assassin also made the catapult disappear as well for he was that good. Now the Apprentice and Henchmen were is a really narrow alleyway ,but the Assassin could make things vanish. This caused the Apprentice to run away shouting for help, he ran into the Captain of the Guard , who took a liking to him in a more then just friends sort of way.
Bringing the Captain back The Master is impatiently standing in the alley asking where did everyone go and where the hell is the catapult. The Assistant, thinks that he is in trouble and will lose his job starts to cry and break down into the arms of the Captain. The Master doesn't care for about that for his 'fluffing' training will continue.  With this announcement that the Apprentice is a 'fluffer' the Captain pushes him away and runs back into the street shouting that the plague has come to town and the townsfolk need to burn it out. As the Apprentice is pushed back he trips over the invisible catapult release which causes the Assassin to be launched into the wall of the alleyway at very ,very high speed.
It is in the remains of the corpse that the Master finds a scroll case with a very important document inside.

TILT
A little mistake causes big failure and Mayhem massive catastrophe.

In the second Act:
We find out that the scroll case contained the personal invitation from the Assassins guild to invite the Henchmen into their ranks ,but there is no map included for the assassin was suppose to be the guide. The Henchmen was able to figure out that on the back of the invitation was a hidden map made from lemon juice so she would be able to find her way there. Now while this was happening the Captain of the guards had run into the street yelling Plague and causing a riot to be touched off. It caused the city folk to think that the cause was the Thieves guild therefore the angry ,torch wielding mob stormed the guild and set it ablaze. The Master and Apprentice went back into the Guild to loot as well. The Master found the Guild Master impaled by a fallen ceiling timber and therefore started to loot his body for gems and other goodies. The Apprentice found the harlot from earlier, she was trapped under a fallen timber as well. In that moment the Apprentice used his magic 'fluffer' powers to make a part of his body strong enough to free her, but really the Master just cast Magic Hand move it. The Apprentice was sure that it was all him therefore he was now a Master 'fluffer'

After that was settled we had the aftermath and the Apprentice and Master both rolled 7 white and the Henchmen rolled 1 black.

The Apprentice fled the scene of the riot with his Harlot in tow ,but ran smack dab into the Mayor's personal guard. He was promptly arrested and thrown in the darkest jail cell for 'fluffers' His abilities were discovered by the other prisoners and he was made into the prison bitch for the rest of his miserable life.
The Henchman made it to the Assassin's guild ,but found out that the leader was her ex-girlfriend ,who was an orc. She was tortured to death for the loss of the assassin and the breakup of the relationship didn't end well either.
The Master was also apprehended leaving the scene ,but was able to bribe his way out with all the jewelry he has pillaged. In the end he had lost his Apprentice 'fluffer' and Henchmen and pretty much could never come back to this town again.

I was introduced to D&D by my older cousin around 1982. In fact the first D&D game I was run through was when he came for my grandfathers wake. Funny that.

Then each year after ward when he would come in for Thanksgiving dinner he would run me through some sort of mini D&D mission. In fact he used the Middle-earth Quest  Choose your own adventure and that pretty much got me hooked.

I went and bought the D&D basic Red Box and Blue box from Kay-Bee Toys(remember that store) at the local mall and would slowly pick up more modules from the store. I still own all of them as well and they are well worn from reading over and over again.  Odd fact I still own the blue dice that you had to fill in with crayon, but they are really worn down for that plastic was a really bad compound.

Now I lived out in Farm country and had noone to play with so I ran my self through my own adventures and had a mary-jane character who was a level 15 human wizard. I don't know if I still have that character sheet ,but if I do it is well yellowed.

I would draw dungeons after dungeons ,but never actually ran anyone through them, thank god. They were a nightmare of design, mounty- hauls and every dungeon ended with a dragon. How orginal.
