Ok, which one of you guys did I just run into on GW2's stress test?

It was me! Hahaha. I knew it was you.

Hey Aaron!

We had a blast playing in your Nimh game on Friday. We've got your photo but its still on the phone ATM.
I liked your epic moments of exposition and you did a super great job with all the characters. And the Pat Benetar.

Thanks for one of our best games at the Con!

Ross looked pretty cool in his suit. It was amazing.

Kind of like putting a suit on a horrible monster, classy and frightening.

Monsters and Other Childish things has a pretty low barrier and serves as a good intro to ORE.
And Wushu is good for getting people to learn roleplaying as a skill, more descriptive, creative.

My go to is CoC, super simple core mechanic and most people that I rope into roleplaying understand horror tropes and some are fans of HPL. Very few in my circle like super heroes or wizards and fairy bullshit. I might try Cthulhu dark for a more beer and pretzels game though.

But the choice between ORE and D20 for noobs, gosh I'd choose neither and just abstract to Wushu for an intro to the hobby. And then if they're committed explore the other systems.

Didn't feel like making another thread, but I thought you all should know about http://www.minez.net/

Its a DayZ mod for Minecraft. It is like half silly but also pretty awesome. You can't break blocks on some servers though but the map is huge and crazy.

Considering you can be in multiple guilds and guest on different servers, Sure! Let's start an RPPR Guild. But I'll be on Tarnished Coast (NA) server.

Add me when you can. "Angry Tom" Or PM me with your character name and I'll add you to the RPPR Guild, we can do lame stuff like play CoC in game or something meta like that.

:D Pretty excited about this game.

I find night time to be the best time to loot buildings. The zombie's cant see as far at night so walking around upright is less of a danger.
Start looting gas stations and then move closer to town. The apartment building has tons of good stuff.

One strategy is to walk around in the wilderness looking for tents. Zombies tend to congregate near towns. Also, finding polaris or googlin' Chenarus and whatnot.

I typically never group up with people because I don't trust them. But if I stumble upon you things might be different. My current character's name is Bevis. But I change characters ever time I die anyhow.

The real trick is to just keep an eye out on the dates and timeline. Registering early is half the battle, for housing, and events. Plus getting your plane ticket early enough for savings. If you "like" GenCon on face book they update enough to remind you of the dates, or you can sign up for the email newsletter. But jump on those dates, otherwise you'll end up spending the con 3 miles outside of Indy.

Be prepared for hidden costs. Breakfast, cigarettes (if you smoke), parking, bribes for police (jk).
Different weather, could change- if there is a lot of construction there will be DUST in the air. Bring sunglasses.
The Hall will be cool, but outside will be hot. Zip off sorts?

Go grocery shopping or pack food. You don't want to be eating Con hotdogs or spending too much money at crazy places.

OKay you have to experience True Dungeon at least once.
Go for the puzzle centric one rather than the combat one. The combat is not as fun as the puzzles. The puzzles play out like a fantasy themed team building exercise.
If you want to do True Dungeon you should put it Number 1 priority on your wish list, it sells out quickly.

There are many activities.
Getting a beer at The Ram is awesome, they redo the restaurant to be fantasy themed (or steampunk or whatever).
My buddy Charlie spends most of his time in the card game and wargames Hall.
I like to play in as many RPGs as I can.
There is also a board game library, scavenger hunt, arts and crafts, yoga, LARPing, a couple of Dances, speed dating, so many things.

Browse the event catalog so you can get a taste of what the events and system are like at the moment. They'll also have maps and things.

So what I noticed as a big change from 4E and junk actually reminded me of another game an MMORPG, specifically some mechanics in Guild Wars 2.

I'm speaking of the downed mechanic and self heals in GW2. It might've just been my imagination but during the first fight, the players were facing a TPK and then rallied.
It was pretty epic, especially the implications and the way the system handles death and coming back from it.

Is there less of an emphasis on the trinity(tank, healer, damage dealer)? Was it really crippling not having some AoEs?
That's the feeling that I get as the cleric didn't have an inordinate amount of heals and it basically came down to coordination and stacking different synergies.

I know table top games and MMOs are kind of super different but I like the forward thinking that I thought I saw (heard).

Ahh so this is the "mystery system" that Pelgrane were being coy about at GenCon last year.
They kept mentioning an "unnamed product".

I didn't get into any of the GenCon events for it. I'm glad for your playtest. Great job and things!

yes. I support This movement.

What server(s) do you usually play on? I like Chicago 1 or any of the veteran Chicago servers.

EDIT: We need an Identifying phrase, so we know who we are. I come up with new characters each time I die and give them differnt names and backstories.

This could work as a cipher:
Are there any zombie dogs down there?
No, I punched them all.

So?

Day Z isn't a steam specific mod.

For group coordination I can see why you'd want it to be on steam, but you could just use the steam chat client thing while playing. I'm not sure what I'm missing.

Its 30$ on steam vs 15$. Just sayin'.
