General Chaos / Re: Screen name history
« on: April 03, 2009, 03:39:23 PM »
My screen name is one I've been using for about 38 years :-)

I have used a couple of other screen names years and years ago, but none really stuck with me.

What's funny is that my "screen name" would seem to be one that is rather unique, but it isn't. There is another guy with the same name in Alabama. What are the odds?

On to something really good.

I like the rendition of the speech in Return of the King before the ride of the Rohirrim, but thought Aragorn's speech before the Black Gate was lackluster. Viggo Mortensen is much more effective when he is being quiet (See him as Lucifer in The Prophecy.) Here is a classic speech from the Bard rendered by Kenneth Branaugh. All told an awesome movie:

You don't go to war with Dick, Don, and George in charge.

RPGs / Re: Most boring campaign?

My most boring game story is ananecdote in RPPR episode #5. One night of it was enough!

RPGs / Re: How do you handle player suggestions/requests?
« on: March 30, 2009, 02:13:21 PM »
I ask my players after every few sessions if they are having fun and if there is anything they want me to change.

Generally I'm open to requests and discussion of the rules. Since this is my first time GMing 3.5 (the game has been going on for two years now) it's been a learning experience.

I've tweaked some rules and added in particular aspects to the story based on requests. For example one of my players has a lot of mounted skills and wanted a chance to use these more often as he hadn't been able to. That is a valid request which I've added in. Of course, our group had a rule of "no vampires" after having three games with vampires as a major foe. I then through them into Expecdition to Castle Ravenloft after a bunch of my own adventures. The meta discussion was humorous when they figured it out. :-)

I'm Ethan, 38, been gaming since 1980 or so. I've played just about everything at one time. I'm a big fan of GURPS and Ars Magica, though haven't played them in years. Currently playing and running D&D 3.5 and enjoying it. I also did lot of table-top miniature games, both historial (medievals, 7 years war, napoleonics, U.S. Ciivil war, zulu era, & wwII) and fantasy/sci fi (Warhammer & Warhammer 40k.)

RPGs / Re: House rules in overabundance
« on: March 11, 2009, 01:16:02 PM »
I'm pretty light witht he house rules in my game and gernerally only add things if all the players agree that we want to. Currently, the one that comes to mind is (in D&D 3.5) increased feat progression to every two levels rather than every three, or whatever it was originally.
