General Chaos / Livestreaming "Let's Plays"
« on: July 11, 2010, 10:07:25 PM »
So I've been thinking about broadcasting myself playing blind run-throughs of video games on Livestream.  A dude named
Lord Licorice
really inspired me to start thinking about doing this.  It just seems like a fun way to motivate myself to play all the games that I want to for more than 5 minutes at a time.  The games that are probably on the top of my list are playstation-era games (Jade Cocoon, Blazing Dragons, Digimon World, Star Wars RA II, shit like that), classic point-and-click games like Day of the Tentacle, and some of the (and I'm quoting Atlas here) "30 kerjillion games" that I bought during Steam sales.  And of course, I will be (hopefully) heightening the entertainment value with my own, and anyone else's that wants to join in, color commentary.

If I were to do this, I would give a heads up on this thread or a new one of the when and where if anyone is marginally interested.

Is this awesome? y/n

RPGs / Hellas RPG Kickstarter

Jerry Grayson is trying to fund his print run of the first supplement to Hellas.

Quote from: Jerry D. Grayson
“I have the latest book in the HELLAS line done and I’ve decided to try and do a Kickstart model to fund it. Please spread the word to anyone who may be interested in a sci-fi game about naked Greek dudes stabbing people, eating goat meat, and drinking malt liquor.”

This is probably the most badass Greek myth/sci-fi mash-up I have ever seen.  Here's an AP run by the creator at GenCon.

General Chaos / Cawmic Borks
« on: May 26, 2010, 08:31:53 PM »
What was everyone's pull this week (and possibly why)?

Mine was: Kevin Smith's Green Hornet #4, The Web #9, Power Girl #12, Justice League Generation Lost #2, and The Brave and the Bold #34.  I also picked up volume 3 of Grant Morrison's run of Doom Patrol.

Now that I think about it, I'm not reading any Marvel titles.  I think I've shied away recently due to all the event stuff going on.  They feel a little impenetrable and it kind of intimidates me as a newly returned comic fan.

General Chaos / Uncle Sean's Old-Fashioned Draw Thread(TM)
« on: April 16, 2010, 06:07:35 AM »
We don't have one of these, so I thought I'd start one up.

I sketched (and then decided to use a pen over for some reason) a few Nightmares from Don't Rest Your Head (the Tacks Man, a Needle Nose, and a Pin Head):

EDIT: messed with some of the lines a bit

It's a good ole' sketchy hoe-down.  Everyone's invited!

RPGs / Quick M&M Question
« on: March 25, 2010, 07:56:09 PM »
My group and I are starting our first Mutants & Masterminds campaign soon, but we hit a snag during character creation.  How is Melee and Ranged Attack Bonus different from the standard Attack Bonus?  Are they separate scores that you buy up, are they the base Attack Bonus but augmented by something, or what?

I might have many more questions in the near future.

RPGs / Recommended Reading?
« on: March 04, 2010, 12:56:14 AM »
Has anyone found blog posts about RPGs (or role playing in general, really) or similar articles that they found fascinating and/or humorous that they would like to share?  I'm going to be intensely bored day after tomorrow and I'd like some reading material to tide me over.  Please and thank you!

How's development on Gamer Dead Zone coming?  I'm just curious since it seemed like a cool idea, and I'd like to see it come to fruition.

Oh, and I found your forums.  ;D

Maid RPG: The Game of Tables Within Tables Within Giant Robots.  The PCs are maids vying to gain favor in the service of the master of a mansion.  I know there are already Maid character generators out there but FUCK YOU MAKE A FACE MELTING BACK STORY just try it.  Copypasta sans Code... code and add colons before and after the dice xdy entries.

Code: [Select]
First order of business is rolling 2d6 6 times and dividing by 3 for the six attributes:
athletics
dice 2d6
affection
dice 2d6
skill
dice 2d6
cunning
dice 2d6
luck
dice 2d6
will
dice 2d6

Next are the Maid Types. Roll 1d6 twice (or 2d6 to save space since the individual results are shown as well as the total):
maid types
dice 2d6

Maid Colors! Roll d66 (tens and ones place) 3 times for uniform, eye, and hair colors (in that order):
uniform
dice 2d6
eyes
dice 2d6
hair
dice 2d6

For Special Qualities, roll d66 twice and 1d6 twice to determine her 2 super traits (this is where the tables in tables comes in):
special quality 1
dice 2d6
dice 1d6
special quality 2
dice 2d6
dice 1d6

Maid Roots and her Stress Explosion (how the character freaks out when stressed out) are both determined by a d66 roll.  Ah, what the hell, how about a Maid Weapon as well:
maid roots
dice 2d6
stress explosion
dice 2d6
maid weapon
dice 2d6

Your maid also has a Maid Power, decided by a 1d6 roll on a table of her highest attribute:
maid power
dice 1d6

Let's see what happens!

General Chaos / PC games have taken over my life :'(
« on: December 27, 2009, 07:52:26 PM »
So I got my new super future computer before the heavy holidays hit, and then I discovered emulators other than ZSNES and /v/'s Recommended Games Wiki, and then I signed up for Steam and discovered the amazing holiday sales going on, so now I have no life.
My new copy of Rune Factory Frontier is collecting dust, but my fully drillized Gurren Lagaan Japanese import action figure is doing quite nicely protecting my new PC.   :)

Are there any potentially life-ruining games you guys have gotten in your Christmas haul?

Play by Post / Riding on the Rogue Trader game's coattails.
« on: December 06, 2009, 11:29:53 PM »
I would really like to run a game of InSpectres over Skype.  The InSpectres Startup Edition has everything you need to play.

My only difficulty right now is that I would really like to have some sort of real-time collaborative document editor like Etherpad (which is now defunct) to use so everyone could see and manage the various dice pools and characters.  The closest thing I can think of that's out there is Google Wave, so can anyone either give me an invite or suggest an alternate program?

As for meet-up time, I just lost my job, so my schedule has cleared up for a little while  ::).

General Chaos / DORF FORT
« on: November 14, 2009, 04:23:40 AM »
On a recent episode of the Podge Cast, one of the hosts, Luc, mentioned he started to play Dwarf Fortress recently.  I almost did a double-take at my mp3 player, like "isn't that the game that Ross...?"

So I just NOW got around to listening to the excellent interview Ross did with Tarn Adams, creator of Dwarf Fortress, as well as reading all of the hilarity that is Boatmurdered.

Point is, I'm itching to play it (found an awesome tileset and everything 8))  , so can anyone point me in a good direction to start, tutorial/How-To-wise?

General Chaos / Monsterpocalypse
« on: September 15, 2009, 04:02:30 AM »
So did anyone else think it was awesome?  I thoroughly enjoyed the look, feel, and rules of Monsterpocalypse and tried to get into it, but no one else around the area really played it.  So now I'm sitting here with my badass Shadow Sun Syndicate army wondering when I can trick someone into playing a game or two with me.

Also, my favorite unit is the Carnidon.  I drew fanart a while back.

Hoshit I just found this site that would be awesome for story games. Take a gander at Hatch's Plot Bank. Also while I'm thinking about it The Mid-Manhattan Picture Collection is really great for inspiration, too.  What are some other awesome sites you guys have found?
