General Chaos / How was your 4th of July?
« on: July 06, 2009, 04:41:54 PM »
For those in The States, how was your 4th of July?

We had a cook-out of brats and Asian chicken, along with BBQ beans, potato salad, chips & dip, and deserts. It was pretty humid, so we spent a lot of time inside playing games. We played Wits & Wagers, Apples to Apples, and a "Password/Hot Potato" type of game (I forget the exact name of the game).

For those outside The States, the 4th of July was still a Saturday, so how was your Saturday?

You can find the adventure here: http://www.rpol.net/game.cgi?gi=37459&date=1245534805

Please send me a "Request to Join" message in the game thread if you would like to play.

General Chaos / I can't help myself... I gotta brag a little bit
« on: June 15, 2009, 02:46:13 PM »
So my wife and I decided to grill hamburgers for dinner last night.

Tired of just plain-old burgers, I decided to try something that I not only hoped I could do without screwing up, but also have it come out delicious.

I mixed ground beef with some steak seasoning, added some Worcestershire sauce, a small spoonful of minced garlic, and a handful of blue cheese crumbles.

I mixed everything together, formed patties, (ensuring that large blue cheese chunks were pushed deeper into the patty), and grilled them to a really nice medium. In the final minute of cooking, we added a slice of swiss cheese to it too.

Honestly, best damn burgers I've ever made. I was patient, flipped them only once, and I ended out with nice, thick, cheesey burgers cooked to a perfect medium. I have never done that before. I almost always make at least one hockey puck, but not last night.

Yummy! Yummy! Yummy!!!   ;D

General Chaos / I've started a fundable...
« on: June 08, 2009, 04:27:09 PM »
Hi guys.

I've started a fundable in order to try and do something nice for a friend. I've got a friend who has been out of work since February. He seems to be doing pretty ok on making his nessisary ends meet, but he's totally cut out all entertainment, (which he should do). He's not a gamer, per se, he's more of a comic collector, and that has definitely been put on hold. He's also a WWII buff, so I thought I might try to raise money to get a copy of Memoir 44 for him.

I've played Memoir 44 at a game store before, and the game mechanics are such that even if you were to play the same scenario twice, each game would be different due to the random factor of the Orders Cards. It's a fun game that forces the player to gage his tactics on the Order Cards he draws.

So, please do not pledge if this does not seem like a worthy cause to donate money for. Cause honestly, I'm kind of conflicted on starting this Fundable for this goal. He's my friend, not yours. My budget is so tight though, that I can't do this for him without the Fundable.

My Fundable link: http://www.fundable.com/groupactions/groupaction.2009-06-08.7701769117

Thanks.

I need to see if the big store near me is participating or not.

General Chaos / I want a copy of Level Up #1
« on: June 01, 2009, 10:14:31 PM »
Does anyone know if their FLGS has a copy of Level Up #1 available? None of the stores in my area have one.

If someone would be kind enough to pick one up for me, I would gladly reimburse them the cost of the mag and shipping.

Thanks   :)

General Chaos / Can anyone here write using Chinese characters?
« on: June 01, 2009, 06:15:11 PM »
Hey everybody, I'm working on an idea for an adventure, and I'd like to provide a handout for the players. The trick is that I'd like the handout to be written in Chinese characters. The handout is suppossed to be an ancient scroll discovered in an archaeological dig.

Can anyone help me?

General Chaos / My head and a brick wall are becoming friends
« on: June 01, 2009, 09:02:00 AM »
Can someone help me, please?

I've been trying to come up with an idea for a short horror adventure that is non-Cthulhu. I'm trying to enter a contest at Chaosium, but every horror idea I come up with feels stupid or rail-roady. Uhg!  >:(

I'm trying to find a happy balance between a liner story and an open sandbox. So, I want a story to progress, but each link of the story should allow the players some freedoms to explore or investigate. I'm just not feeling any of the ideas that I'm coming up with.

Anybody want to chip-in and help?

The Chaosium site is currently running two contests. One is just a BRP (Basic Role Playing) adventure, and the other is a horror adventure that can be either Cthulhu or BRP.

I'm entering both contests, and I've completed my BRP adventure.

My adventure is set in WWII, and the players are Special Forces Rangers with psychic powers versus Nazi trying to develope psychic powers.

This would be a fun adventure for 5 to 7 players. Anyone want to play?

RPGs / Hollow Earth Expedition - anyone played this yet?
« on: May 09, 2009, 12:05:45 AM »
Hey guys, I just heard about a game that focuses on pulp-style adventuring. It's called Hollow Earth Expeditions, (HEX), and it's published by Exile Games.

I haven't played yet, but I am chomping at the bit to play. I've decided that the next rpg I buy will be HEX. I encourage you guys to go check out the Exile Games site, especially the downloads section. The EG folks have posted the HEX introductory adventure they produced for Free RPG Day 2008, so it comes with complete quick-start rules too.

I think this would be a great system to play a Land of the Lost campaign. Beware of Sleestaks!

RPGs / Who's trying new games?
« on: April 04, 2009, 04:36:35 PM »
I bring this up cause I just purchased Savage Worlds: Explorer's Edition, and I'm excited to learn a new game. My intent is to learn it well enough in order to convert Gamma World into a Savage Gamma World!  ;D

Who else is trying new games? RPG or board game. What 'cha checkin' out?
