RPGs / Re: The Event Situation System
« on: August 27, 2009, 03:46:20 PM »
Savage Worlds has a pretty good system for mass group combat. I can't recall the particulars of the top of my head right now, but I remember liking what I read.

You can also employ a system of averages with mass groups. Working the averages could also expidite combat.

I spoke to Patrick yesterday, and he's also going to repost these character sheets as pdfs for those of us without the Byakhee program.

I can't wait to check 'em out.

RPGs / Re: The coolest thing you've made?

The thing I am most proud of is an augmented Lightening Gun for Call of Cthulhu.

In Call of Cthulhu, the Lightening Gun is a hand-held weapon designed by the Great Race of Yith that shoots... wait for it... lightening!!

Well, I thought it being a hand-held device was too conveinant, so I redesigned it to be a full body harness. You wear the gun! There is also a chance that should the gun miss-fire, that it fries the user. I redesigned it into a really cool, but really dangerous weapon.

Hi.

First, may I say that I think it is absolutely wonderful that you are role-playing with your son. My son is only now 7 months old, and I cannot wait to game with him someday. So kudos to you.  ;D

Second, I should say that I have never GMed a game of Star Wars, but would this work as a solution for you? Being a military unit, is it plausable that the Wookie has a series of hand signals that he has worked out with his troopers? Could he give them silent command with hand signals? Much like sign language?

If not, what about his Jedi powers? Without bogging down in rules, could it be assumed that subtle touches from the Wookie's Jedi-trained mind to that of his troopers can be used to communicate his orders?

I hope you and your son have many years of fun role-playing. :)

Excellent history for Locke. Yeah, I think Dalton and Locke should know each other.

Do you think either or both of us should augment our histories so they gel a little better, other than saying that they knew each other as kids? Should they be best friends? Should they have had the same mentor in the Guard?

If you went to GEN CON, then list your loot here. What did you come home with? And pictures would be nice.

Role Playing Public Radio Podcast / Re: Age of Masks AP Thread

Mechanics aside, I am absolutely loving this series of APs. I am really into the story and the characters.

In fact, when Ross clarified that the Recluse was not like the spider, I immediately thought of a tough-as-nails mask called "The Brown Recluse"!

He main weapon is a gas-powered needle gun that shoots Brown Recluse venom. It is a silent weapon with a short range. It only makes a ~pfft~ sound as it fires a needle.

His other weapon is a gas-powered gun that shoots a bolas at someone. This entangling weapon is his "web".

His costume is black and brown with a small red stylized spider symbol on the upper-right chest of his uniform.

You might want to put a general spoiler warning on anything you talk about. I mean, it's not like there's anything really suprising except for that one thing in the one game. Man, that surprised me. But aside from that... Anyway, just a general courtesy.

Dick.    ;D

Way to go on teasing the rest of us.

Here's the other game too: http://www.rpol.net/game.cgi?gi=37861&date=1249653552

If anyone wants to view these games, just register on Role Play Online, (www.rpol.net), send me your username, and I'll grant you Lurker rights. Be warned, if you might eventually play in one of these scenarios, there are spoilers abound!

In the same vein, referencing another game, I'm honestly amazed anyone wanted to get out of the car at Chicago House.

Yes! Especially considering how long it took us to get away from the damnable air strip.   ;D

I've got several Call of Cthulhu games going at Role Play Online, including the new John Wick CoC scenario, "Curse of the Yellow Sign: Act 1 - Digging for a Dead God".

To give a brief set-up for this scenario, the players are all Nazi officers stationed at a Nazi diamond mine in north Africa. Their orders are to dig for diamonds to fuel the war machine. It is in one of the mines that they discover something interesting... a door!

So, fast-forward a bit, we have our group of PCs in the mine, in front of the door, and no one wants to touch it. How do you open a door no one will touch?

The game quickly became a series of spats, dares, and orders against each other. At one point one of the PCs had his officer draw his pistol and point it at another PC's officer!

This is all going on via a play-by-post forum setting. Me and the two players in question were all online at the same time, and I think we racked up more than 100 posts in under two hours!! If these two guys were in the same room, I think it could've boiled down into physical blows, but by being online, they both had to creatively channel their energies in their posts.

At the time of this writing, they have STILL not opened the door!!!! Ya gotta love Call of Cthulhu paranoia!  ;D  :D

I'm usually a Keeper/GM, so I don't have that many character deaths.    :-\
