Welcome Karl. I'm glad they still have RPG clubs in school.

Kenders... what is the world coming to?  :D

Dwarves... sturdy, stout... talk about a race designed to adventure!  ;D

There is a cool board game called Ingenious, by Fantasy Flight Games, that is easy to learn and fun to play. You should check it out.

RPGs / ShaunCon 27 (November 19-22 in Kansas City)
« on: July 22, 2009, 04:07:45 PM »
I know it's a bit early, but I wanted to announce that ShaunCon is coming up again in November. It is always the weekend before the Thanksgiving weekend.

I just submitted two Call of Cthulhu games that I am going to run there. The first one is "Curse of the Yellow Sign: Act 1 - Digging for a Dead God". This scenario is written by John Wick. It is a small enough "sandbox" scenario that I think I can easily run it in the 4 hour allotment.

The second is "The Faculty Party". This is a scenario that I wrote. This is my Halloween Contest entry that I just sent in to Chaosium. So even if it doesn't make the cut into their monograph, I still want to run it at ShaunCon. My scenario is also a "sandbox" format, so I feel very confident that I can run it too within the 4 hour time limit.

If anyone is able to attend ShaunCon in November, and would like to play in either of my games, please let me know and I will keep you posted on how to register for my games. If it is anything like last year, players will have the ability to register online for specific games so you can reserve you spot at the table.

Ross & Tom! You guys were able to attend last year and we ran and recorded Murder of Crows. That was an ok game. I really really really think you guys will love John Wick's game, "Digging for a Dead God", and I can't help but feel like a proud papa on my game, "The Faculty Party". I would absolutely love it if you guys could come to ShaunCon again.

I hope to see you guys there!

RPGs / I sent in my contest entry last night
« on: July 21, 2009, 11:14:32 AM »
Chaosium is running a couple of adventure contests; one is for a BRP adventure, and the other is for a Halloween adventure. The BRP adventure can be of any setting or situation as long as it is written with the BRP rules. My submission for that contest is my  "Operation: Mind Storm" adventure; a WWII with psionics adventure. Some of us are playing that adventure now on Role Play Online (RPoL).

I finally finished my Halloween entry last night and emailed it off. That adventure is called "The Faculty Party", and it is a classic Call of Cthulhu adventure. The Miskatonic University English department is having their annual Halloween party, when something nasty crashes the party.

I will put a call out to run it on RPoL soon. Until then, I've got my fingers crossed!  ;D

RPGs / Re: How much do you game per week?
« on: July 20, 2009, 10:13:03 PM »
I'm in the same boat with Jon; I don't have a local group right now, so I participate in three PbP games on RPOL.   I did get an invite to a weekly 4E game, but their schedule conflicts with my work, so it's a no-go.

EDIT:  Right, way to go Dawn, don't actually answer the question.  I spend probably an hour or two per week on RPOL; I spend more time reading and re-reading gaming books to try and think of ideas.

Yep, me and Dawnsteel are birds of a feather.

All of my gaming is online via play-by-post at Role Play Online, (www.rpol.net), so it's hard to gauge how much time I spend each week there, but I'd say it's at least 3 hours a week, all together.

Yep, Vin is too cool for school.

I wonder if he's into other rpgs too? I wonder if he'd like a game of Call of Cthulhu?

General Chaos / My insane work weekend
« on: July 18, 2009, 05:07:00 AM »
Hey guys,

Thought I'd decompress a bit and tell everyone about my crappy weekend that I'm having. I have to work some insane hours this weekend as we practice for a major code deployment that will occur in 3 weeks. So, not only do I have crappy hours this weekend, I will again in 3 weeks.

I am in the office as I write this, 4am Saturday morning, Central Time in the US. I got here at 1:30am. This shift ends at 5am, for me.

I will be back at 9:30pm tonight, and that shift ends at 6am Sunday morning. Gak!!!

Why couldn't I have been a career arsonist? They keep their own hours and really love their work... so I hear.  :D

I loved that book!

Wooberman, do you have a pdf copy you can send me? It's kind of a hassle to access that online doc.

General Chaos / Re: How was your 4th of July?
« on: July 14, 2009, 10:25:38 PM »
The actuall 4th was the day I finally sat down and watched the DVD of Dream Quest of Unknown Kadath.  Then I ate homemade ice cream and grilled cheesburgers.  Then I set off about 20 bucks worth of fireworks before the rain hit.  Then I went over to Ross' place and played Do You Worship Cthulhu? with Ross, Patrick, Kiree, and...others.  I forget.  And I was tired.

I recommend it.

I do plan to buy that movie.

General Chaos / Re: transformers 2 review.
« on: July 14, 2009, 09:31:12 AM »
I really enjoyed the first Transformers movie, and the second one was an ok popcorn flick.

I thought "The Twins" was just dumb. Their actions took me out of the movie more than drew me in. Also, there was a ton of sexual innuendo and one f-bomb that just didn't need to be included, IMO.

On the plus side, seeing Megan Fox laying on that motorcycle and all of her slo-mo running was well worth the price of admission.

I saw it once, it was ok. I'll see it again on HBO, but I won't purchase the dvd.

Welp, we didn't make it http://www.ennie-awards.com/nominations/nominees.asp

    *  All Games Considered
    * Brilliant Gameologists
    * Order 66
    * Return to Northmoor
    * The Voice of the Revolution

oh well better luck next year. Does anyone listen to any of these podcasts?

I found AGC kind of boring, and I don't listen to O66, but BG, RtN, and VotR are all good.

Of the above list, I hope Return to Northmoor wins.
