General Chaos / Re: What Vidja games are you playing?

I started playing Stellaris.  I hope it stays this deep throughout the whole game.

How is Stellaris holding up? I played for about 6 hours but did everything wrong (like I usually do on a 4x) so I need to start over, of course.  The early game is pretty cool, with all the exploration and station building and such, but I felt like the diplomacy was broken, I tried to give 1000 energy credits to a neutral party and it made no impact on their tradeometer thingy.  Maybe they don't like energy?  I dunno.  I have a policy of not getting a 4x until the first expansion (thanks Civ: Beyond Earth for forcing me to take that stance) but Stellaris seems really cool... and yet there has been some disagreement in the 4x community as to whether the late game holds up.

It is good and it is improving with consistent patches and support from the developers. Paradox has a great reputation for supporting their games and adding lots of good DLC on top of that.

I'm about 12 hours into a game after a couple of shorter learning sessions and enjoying it. Haven't done much diplomacy though. But I haven't really reached late game yet.

Looks like a good premise for a campaign. There are two caveats, however.

Firstly, if this is modern-day Delta Green, there is no A-Cell within the government sanctioned Program. A-Cell is the new leadership group of the cowboys who have refused to come in from the cold. So A-Cell wouldn't be coercively recruiting agents into a Working Group.

If you're setting the game back in the nineties, I recommend (re-)reading the original Delta Green sourcebook, there's a good section describing about how agents were supposed to be recruited back in the cowboy era. Needless to say, A-Cell tended to be assholes towards agents but I question the idea that they would made blunt coercive threats like that. You could hint at it and create a great sense of paranoia if you had some cryptic messages going on and/or some DG NPCs who know the score and are trying to give the new recruits a warning on how the game is really played ...

Guy Gavriel Kay has a new book, The Children of Earth and Sky. Highly recommended.

Next up is Tim Powers' latest, Medusa's Web.

Been meaning to read Ishiguro. Thanks for the reminder.

I am now reading my freshly delivered Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition books. Seems nice enough, but I'm just more excited for Delta Green in the coming months . . .

Finished reading Hurricane Fever yesterday. Great afro carribean espionage book.

@Pirate given that almost everyone I know loves the Expanse you don't have to think of it as a guilty pleasire.

My point was that it's really not all that good. But it does make me want to turn the pages even though I get frustrated by the flaws in the storytelling. There's a lot of good stuff in there that is either undeveloped or lost in the shuffle.

I'm reading the Expanse series. I'd call it a guilty pleasure. It does have horror elements mixed in with its space opera.

Mutatis Mutandis is extremely my shit. Do you have anything typed up about that?

I don't - just my chicken-scratch handwritten notes, but I can type it up if you'd like.

Count me curious as well!

I am ashamed to admit I bought this book when it first came out. Damn, I'm old.

I'm in for the whole hog, $160 reward tier. I've always wanted to play this game.

I did not go whole hog but only went a half rack of ribs. I am trying to back less kickstarters the rest of this year as I went in pretty heavy on the Delta Green, Kult, Best of Fenix, and a few other non gaming projects I have dropped way to much recently. I expect I will back Red Markets at some reasonable level as well.

I went for the whole full meal deal too. I treasure my old UA stuff (which was sadly underused back in the day) and I'm sure my playgroup will dive in with gusto after we finish up some short runs of ToC and CoC published stuff. Running this in tandem with Delta Green will satisfy anything one could want for modern horror.

For non-backers what is keeping from you backing? Just financial reasons? Does the site not accept the payment form you prefer to use? Something else?

Lack of time. It's not lack of interest or lack of money.

I made 10 RPPR characters in this bin: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B97KNyVQ3ai-UkNyTllxcWVDLUU/view?usp=sharing

So, what's the upload process then? I've not modded XCOM before.

I'd gladly try out the RPPR squad. Sadly my MacBook Pro has to run the game with low graphics settings but hey, it's still great.
