What do they like? If they're part of the Kung-Fu film club than start with some kung-fu games.

Something funny, ParanoiaXP gets my immediate vote though "It Came From The Late Late Late Show" or similar can also be fun.

RPGs / Cthulhu/BRP skill system
« on: February 02, 2012, 10:49:46 PM »
From the Cthulhu pod cast I thought I'd put this up. One thing I did to simplify the BRP skill section. I put this up on yog a while ago but thought it might be worth some discussion here.

I shrunk the list down and made three categories, general, field and specific. Most skills start in general and can go to 40 percent. After 40, the player must take a field skill (that starts at 40, after 65 the character must take a specific skill (which also starts at 65). Investigators may have as man field/specific skills as they want. Each tier gives better/more information from a roll (someone with History 35 gets a general view, someone with Egyptian history 45 gets more and someone with Second Dynasty gets the most about their speciality/field.)

I did this to cut down on the number of skills on the sheet and to add a few to the mix so players could avoid having to blow half their points into one skill that may not be used often. (Geology was the example, a player had that skill high because he was a geologist. Yet it only came up a few times over the years. Leading him to declare his next investigator’s occupation would be a “spotter and dodger.”)

So a character would have say: Guns 40 and Pistol 65 costing 65 skill points, for another 15 he can add Shotgun 55.

To get the starting skills, I just took all the old skills and averaged their starting numbers and rounded to the nearest 5.

With this I went back to EDUx15 for skills because there were fewer skills to spend.

Throw in the Kill Dr. Lucky cards (change room names) and let them draw from that?

Yeah, but he's (its') the first real "sci-fi" idea I've had for an EP character. The others are just normal ideas in spaaaace or cyber-ideas.

Though were he in No Evil he'd just try to join the Neo-Synergists since that's his goal anyway and I'd have to make a new one.

It's partially for a character concept but also from a "hack" perspective, I like the idea of a whole mess of alphas and the prime forming a kind of bicameral transhuman.

(Character concept is a dude who's trying to form "human AI" in that enough brains/people connected should be able to create a whole that can rival a seed AI. This was before hearing about the neo-synertists and Pax Familia who are doing exactly what my character had planned, bleh.)

Everything is better with Space Whales.

Rules question for EP: As far as I can tell, it's a  good hack to get several of the ghost rider lumps installed, load them with Alpha forks and use said forks to give you a +X0% bonus to all rolls as they count as helpers?

Cool, I am kind of interested to see what it looks like. (Full disclosure: didn't play 4E, only played 3.whatever because my friends bought it, unlikely to buy 5E but interested to see what they make.)

Yeah, the Cthulhu by gaslight book (box) hasn't been available for years. The new one is "on its' way" but who knows when. (yog-sothoth.com is doing a gaslight campaign in audio format now).

You could also do some ParanoiaXP, challenge to see how long a "straight" game can really go.

General Chaos / Banned Unspeakable Oath for sale
« on: December 07, 2011, 10:59:17 AM »
This is more of a curio, but with the hardcore Pagan love here I thought I'd put this up. Yog-sothoth.com is auctioning off a copy of Courting Madness/Mouthful of Madness, the banned issue of The Unspeakable Oath.

http://www.yog-sothoth.com/threads/22243-YSDC-Courting-Madness-8-200

Mostly for drooling (I think most of the scenarios wound up in a later compilation.)

I dare you to run an Insylum campagin.

Again, I'll suggest http://rantmedia.ca/afternow/ Tales from the AfterNow, which features many parts of the Slow Apocalypse. It's really more of a melding of Post-Apocalypse and Cyberpunk in that there wasn't one specific event that changed everything but now the world does suck and has for a long time. But the internet is still there sort of, it may or may not be the home of a singularity called "Server" praying to Server might make your searches work faster, it makes you feel better anyway.

LLA Financial Times: MARKET REPORT VENUS
This devaluation of Venusian market value has been offset, at least momentarily, by a boom in aerostat investment opportunities following a new meteorological discovery. Psymon Kitter, a prominent Argonaut most well-known in the field of xenobiology and “gatecrashing,” recently open-sourced wind-pattern prediction software more advanced than anything yet developed for the dangerously turbulent lower atmosphere, allowing aerostat placement to range thousands of kilometers farther North and South than previously thought possible. All third-parties appear to vouch for the accuracy of what is being called “Kitter’s Doppler,” though Egonomix has publically questioned the doctor’s use of a thermonuclear device said to have detonated in the atmosphere during his experimental trials.

Hey, it's Psymon, I bet he's still naked.
