RPGs / Re: Wild Talents question

I'd say that while the power is on he is outside the world and can't effect mass, but mass can't effect him either.

He can't use it as a defense like armor or gobble but if he's phased he can ignore all things with mass.

Also I might add the "No Physics" to it if you want to be mean/enforce gravity when he's outside.

Immunity can be all kinds of irritating if you let players take it to things like "Bullets" "Fists" and such but I think it's more for things like radiation etc.

I use the blackjack skill rolling, and more or less I've added in sources of stability like things.

I turn unarmed damage into temporary damage.

At one point I rewrote the skill section to simplify the overall skills into categories with specializations and skill caps, so you have firearms going up to 40% which works for any normal gun you find. After that each skill goes into offshots (so you take shotgun at 50% for 10 more points.) and at 70% you pick specific guns etc.

I try to pick insanity from the scene rather than the book for long term things.

By the power of thread necromancy:

This one's a bit more traditional but I had the idea a few days ago and it's been rattling around.

Anyone else have ideas to add to the list?

Saber Antimony

Yuriko Hori was chosen by fate at the age of 14 to defend Tokyo from evil with the Elemental Sabers, sailor suited warriors of justice and love. She had always been "sporty" and becoming a front line warrior with a magic spear seemed like a dream come true. Like most child soldiers she wound up with dead friends and PTSD. Looking back she can see that being named after the 51st element on a team of six might have been a clue. She lasted four years before the trauma of fighting both demons and their human cultists began to overwhelm her. Like many before and after, she quit. Knowing that most of the washouts died pretty quickly, from cultist reprisals or possibly Saber Silver, she fled Tokyo for relatives in the country and stayed there for a year and a half. After that, she took a study abroad program to avoid Tokyo (the Elemental Sabers, now lead by the less stable Saber Astatine would at least be openly hostile to her) and found herself in New Arcadia. The American style super heroes and villains seemed much nicer, or at least she managed to steer clear of them while majoring in psychology, minoring in physical education and joining a rock climbing club. When Ragnarok happened she had just begun to intern as a physical therapist, mostly working with children.

But now it's been a while and the heroes are gone, and yet there are still ray-guns on the streets, and she's seeing more disabled children coming if someone doesn't try to stop it. Her sailor suit more or less still fits when she transforms and she remembers how to fight with her spear, maybe she'll have to step up.

Records of Lodoss War started as a replay

(Technically I knew that, had the VHS and liner notes and everything. Somewhere is the sad story about how TSR didn't expand into the Japanese market because of reasons but I can't find it.)

But more importantly speaking of things on VHS and the 80's:

I just finished the second season of Black Mirror, that's so cool, it's like The Twilight Zone but all modern and British and full of ideas about future tech. And with pig fucking.

Also, if played straight, White Bear would be Carcosa.

Just Picked up the Bundle of Gumeshoe, kind of just for the Night's Black Agents story, but there are other games to look at too.

Just as a test you should post an entire campaign at once.

Otherwise, I like the two at a time as it gives more variety. Though maybe after a campaign finishes you should do a few more one-shots before jumping into the next one.

RPGs / Building a vampire
« on: September 03, 2013, 09:27:10 PM »
So let's noodle around with Night's Black Agents.

Let's noodle up a new vampire to challenge some agents. This is for the game I'd like to run, I suspect I will never get to run it.

I liked the parts in the book about draining heat and such, so running with that I now have a reverse vampire, which may not be as clever as I would like. They drink blood naturally but also slurp the heat out of people, animals and things, sunning themselves and slowly turning to stone if they lose heat.

The game idea I have is they're an outdated hedonistic anti-state conspiracy, looking back to the Greek city-states as a good time to play men like their own game of Civilization.

Sunpires
General Abilities: Aberrance 15, Hand-to-hand 10, Health 12, Weapons 13
Hit Threshold 4 (5 if distorted)
Alertness Modifier +2
Stealth Modifier +1 (shows up on IR)
Damage Modifier: +2
Armor 1
Free Powers: Drain, addictive bite, heat drain, Infravision, Field effects (cold) Regeneration (in sunlight), exceptional strength,
Other Powers: Distortion (mirage, 2-Aberrance) Invisibility (1-Aberrance but must remain still, the vampire absorbes light instead of reflecting it.) Mental Attacks, Vampiric Speed (1-Aberrance, wind drains heat),
Banes: Beheading, freezing
Desrtoy: behead or allow the vampire to freeze completely to stone and shatter the statue, the pieces must be under 2 kilos and may be scattered no less than five kilometers from the nearest piece or they may reform with heat.
Blocks: Running water (immersion drains 1 health/turn in heat, crossing may also if wide enough and unprotected)
Compulsions: Drink Blood, seek sunlight
Dreads: Cold, Church bells
Requirements: Must maintain heat or they will freeze into pale statues.

It's kind of worth checking out? A little? The art is pretty, some of the monsters are cool. The setting is functional and the ships from the Cthonian Stars book are pretty good.

That said, the set-up is kind of dull but functional where the PCs work for Starfleet's space DG. The history is kind of uninspired/dull/stupid at once.

However their adventure design has improved tremendously from Cthonian Stars.

Thinking now, beyond the art and a few of the monsters there isn't much here you could not do with normal Cthulhu in space and an afternoon to splat it up.

"Though it should be noted that black as a color and concept is also erased."

This may be the most perfect line I have seen in a long time.

It's called Jinx I think. Maybe if you throw delayed effect on it and have the dice show up randomly over several scenes?

I've got a weekly game, it's mostly Pathfinder but I'm running Eclipse Phase now, it's funny because one of the dudes is an aspiring sci-fi author and is digging the shit out of the game, the other player is having a bit of future shock.

More Eclipse Phase Now

real life Ultimates

"warblegarble"

Looking for the house thing I just read this. That's not the most stupid thing I've seen but close. I mean it's like an angry eugenics fetishist wants to get in on the sweet Heritage Foundation money or something.

And there's this thing: http://www.theatlanticwire.com/national/2013/06/how-twitter-schooled-nyu-professor-about-fat-shaming/65833/
