Just bought this thing Ross recommends. Chalk up one more thing I've bought because of you guys.

I used to be Number 1 for a long while (2009-2012 I think) but I started becoming more of a Number 2 after a while. Mostly because of work and university leave me less time to dedicate to APs, but also because I just wasn't as invested in some of the games and campaigns being posted. Not to say they were bad or anything, RPPR puts out a lot of comedy gold, but for example I've never been a fan of the superhero genre and so I didn't get into Wild Talents and Base Raiders, to name a few. BUt on the contrary I love most of the other stuff including Call of Cthulhu, Eclipse Phase, GUMSHOE, ORE and The New World campaing/ D&D. I even loved The Spared and the Spoiled because it was less superheroes and more of a zany A Dirty World with demons.

I still listen to some things with a lot of enthusiasm. When Ross posted the Hedgerow AP I immediately dropped everything I was doing to start listening to it. And I have never missed a single episode of the main RPPR podcast, nor anything from Unspeakable podcast. So yeah, you guys are still the best podcast around.  ;)

A quick Google search threw a few results of daily life in the trenches:

A good rule of thumb is that you only need to research a historical time period to the point where it is believable. If you are really interested in a a historical setting and enjoy reading about it, then yeah go hit the books. Otherwise, you only need to paint a better picture of the setting as far as what the players will see, so some minor details can be fibbed or hand-waved if its not something important to the RPG story or if your players don't have a specific interest in it.

World building should always be fun and if you start getting tired of it then change it up or find a setting that interests you more!

Also, to keep track of great sales for games that normally don't show up on Daily deals or flash sales (little known indie games are one example) or you simply want to compare prices, this is the God tool of sales. http://steamdb.info/sales/

Steam Summer Sale!  Most Payday 2 DLC 66% off right now! Go Go Go!

It's very likely that when Payday 2 goes on a Daily Deal or flash sale that the DLC will be discounted too. If you cna wait until then, you will probably save a few bucks. Otherwise, that 66% off will stay until June 29th, so there's no rush to buy just yet.

If you want maximum bang for your buck, here's a handy flowchart.

Not sure what's "small" about it, it's got over 12 different maps, 12 different playable characters 5 different monsters and a single player mode that has yet to be detailed.

Seems about the right size to me. But hey if I could contain my excitement I'd wait too.

Not meant to diss on the game, it looks like a lot of fun. What I meant to say was that, for a game that has no singleplayer campaign and is centered entirely on the multiplayer, $60 seems to be too steep for me. Now, when it is on sale for $20-$30 bucks I will most likely pounce on it because that would be a great value IMO.

Anyone else chomping at the bit to play some Evolve?

That game looks AWESOME.

60 bucks for such a (relatively) small multiplayer game seems like too much. I wil probably get it a year after it's released when it's $20 at a Steam sale. :)

General Chaos / Re: What are you reading?

I've actually been on a reading tear lately. In the last month I've read:

Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World http://www.amazon.com/Hard-Boiled-Wonderland-End-World-International/dp/0679743464

I'm a huge Haruki Murakami fan, I have almost all his books on my book shelf and some of those books I've read more than twice.

As to what I've been reading recently:

Tokyo Vice - An American Reporter on the Police Beat in Japan by Jake Adelstein: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002RYXA0Y/ref=kinw_myk_ro_title
I bought it during the Tribes of Tokyo APs but just only read it about two months ago. Great book and it reads like a thriller.

Big Boy Rules: America's Mercenaries Fighting in Iraq by Steve Fainaru: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001M5JV98/ref=kinw_myk_ro_title
Great book about a side of wars that is normally glossed over or ignored. Could make for some great RPG material in some senses.

Tai-Pan by James Clavell: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001L4Z6YE/ref=kinw_myk_ro_title
By the same author that wrote Shogun, Tai-Pan is an amazing historical novel about the Opium Wars, the British colonization of Hong-Kong and the merchant houses that dominated all Oriental matters.

The Lies of Locke Lamorra by Scott Lynch: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000JMKNJ2/ref=kinw_myk_ro_title
The requisite fantasy book, it's set in fantasy-Venice and is mostly about the street-urchin-turned-con-man Locke Lamorra that gets dragged into a larger conflict. It's some pretty great low-fantasy and if you're a fan of the Thief series of videogames then you will love this book.
