General Chaos / Re: Delta Green kickstarter
« on: September 30, 2015, 06:25:09 PM »
Actually I just cancelled my backing. The project was never in danger of not getting backing so that is not a concern and it is not because I am not interested in eventually procuring Delta Green but the way they have their backer levels structured I don't see a compelling reason to back. At the $50 level I am essentially putting in a pre-order so I think I am going to wait till release and buy the individual items that I want as they are released. It also seems like the stretch goals turn into new add ons not extension of content so if for example it turns out I do decide I want the History of Delta Green when it becomes available I would need to update my pledge to get that. I don't really want to keep monitoring the campaign and keep updating my pledge as new items become available.  I can of course do that but seems like a bit of work or I could wait till the end of the campaign and then back select the items I want or as my current plan is wait till the normal production release of the various items and purchasing them at that point. If enough stuff gets released I might also end up biting at one of the All PDF levels but we shall see how that plays out.

Please don't take this as a me being negative towards the arc dream crew or the choices they have made. They are all smart folks who want to run their kickstarter in a fashion they think is best setup for delivery and they are doing that. I also don't want to give the impression that I think kickstart creators should keep giving away new interesting stuff as stretch goals are released to feed some entitlement on my part. Many kickstarters have fallen to over commitment or over extending from the original core vision and protecting that is important. I wish them luck (although they are not going to need it) and know I will eventually buy the new version and I am sure it will be great so looking forward to getting my hands on it someday.

Of course I need to be honest with myself and say I would not have written this and posted it here if I was not a little annoyed and so I suppose I must be at some level. Perhaps I am looking for folks to argue me out of my course of action. Perhaps I just and an old man yelling at the clouds.

Probably it is the clouds one.

Backed.

Better idea: tell rpg publishers how to market to libraries and give grants to libraries that buy rpgs.

BUY MY BOOKS

I'm confused. How does that plan get me $3 million to build the ultimate RPG library?

The way I am reading this is buy enough of Ross's books and he will give you the money.

Libraries don't eat people... Libraries don't eat people...

What the fuck is wrong with that architect??
Actually, the architect says that the facade is supposed to resemble the pages of a book, and "In this book, some pages opens like eyes to create chapters". :o

I find it titillating yet loathsome.

I just picked up Gods, Memes, and Monsters and am working through it at a leisurely pace.

Only about 1/3 of the way through and quality varies quite a bit but so far my standout is Agave by Arinn Dembo.

If you are a design nerd and/or are a child of the 80 space program this might have your interest.

What's the ETA on the DG kickstarter? I know I'm going to splurge on some ridiculous high-end pledge level already.

It is suppose to be September some time but the Arc Dream folks are not Pelgrane so I expect some possible wiggle in that schedule. They still have three weeks and for all I know it could have gone live even as we speak.

P.S. - I am quite fond of the Arc Dream folks so no disrespect intended.

I thought I had left gaming PCs years ago when I moved to a macbook and most of my gaming has been the PS3 but recently I built what I am calling my mid life crisis PC. It is not crazy from the point of view of what one can build into a gaming PCs but I spent more than I should and my indulgent wife has not asked too many pointed questions about it. Anyway because of this I have started down the dark road of Steam. Mostly with more recognizable titles but that is how it begins.

Darkest Dungeon
Civ 5
Witcher 3

Speaking of Delta Green, my wallet has a sense of dread in regards to the kickstarter.

As if millions of wallets suddenly cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced.

Yeah, the conversion guide was great. It doesn't have anything for Australia or Shanghai but by that point, I was able to wing stuff pretty easily.

I for one am shocked, shocked I say, to hear that you wing any aspect of your games!

Having read the Color Out of Space there is no way this does not end poorly.

The grand unified theory of RPPR is a path that can only lead to madness.

Took an hour to get them uploaded but I finally have all the photos I took of the Glancy game up online.

Here's the link :http://imgur.com/a/rW3QD

Sadly my phone died so I couldn't take pictures throughout the whole game, managed to only get half the game. Still, enjoy the pictures! See you all next year!

So the pictures make it look like the game was in one of the event rooms which makes me think it took place during the day and not in the middle of the night till so very late. If that is the case this is a clear violation of the traditions of the RPPR Glancy game and I for one will not stand for this! Next you will be telling me no one died and/or went insane!

I actually think that Gumshoe might be easier if you don't have a ton of role playing baggage you are bringing along with you. I do agree the spending points is a touch odd but my group did pick it up pretty quickly but maybe I am forgetting how much hand holding I had to do. The one thing that was hard was explaining how stability worked with the spending but you could still lose point after spending. That was hard for people to get their heads around. Since it was a one shot we also did not need to work out the refresh rules.
