General Chaos / Re: What are you reading?
« on: December 09, 2014, 11:54:33 AM »
Just finished DG: Tales from failed anatomies; currently re-reading Hobgoblin by John Coyne. There's a lot more sexual situations than I somehow don't remember reading when I first read this book(back in 1982 or '83!).

The book that got me into Roleplaying Games- after reading this book, I attempted to create my own RPG based on the titular game within the novel. My best friend was like "Hey, that's cool, we should take some ideas from this AD&D book my sister bought me."

And here I am, still playing RPGs.

Edit: And now that I've finished Hobgoblin(again), I can't recommend it as a good read. :P

I know, Ross, I've heard your pronunciation.  ;D I've heard like 3 or 4 different ones from different people, though.   :P

Do the kickstarter rewards also include the correct way to pronounce "Nyarlathotep"? ;)

The only thing I listen to that's similar to the synth-wave stuff you speak of is Sisters of Mercy(as seen/heard fairly recently in World's End):

Awesome, Ross. Still, I hope for even more DG action.  ;D

I am glad as well, though i was in it for the physical book reward- PDF is a welcome addition. I'm glad Mr. Crowe relented.

If I could afford putting any more into the kickstarter for the 32k two-books-for-one deal, I would... What an awesome stretch goal.

Ross   "There's monsters in the school, Tom."

What do you guys think?  Would it be worthwhile?

More like:
Ross: "Clearly, I am a horrible monster."

Yeah, something like that, David. Ringtone/chirp recording from each of the RPPR crew with their favorite/tag line.

I checked the kicktraq website yesterday(I think), and it had definitely cooled- trending towards only 24k...  :'(

It may go even lower, given the PDF sentiment. Pretty sad, considering it was looking like we could get the second book for free.

RPGs / Re: THE QUEUE: Whacha got in YOUR gaming pipeline

I was able to run a game of Dungeon World set in Dark Sun last weekend, and the players seemed to enjoy it, so I hope to continue it into a mini-campaign at least.

Probably be running(maybe playing) 5E soon. Adventurer's League stuff.

Bishop- It's the same shop I used to run 4E encounters at. I've already talked to the owner and he's scheduled the October stuff, though I asked him to add me as an organizer for the store. That way, I can order the mods, as he's been bad at ordering/reporting things for me in the past. I don't think he reported any of the games I ran for the last 8-12 months that I ran games at his store, but he keeps a high "WPN level" for running weekly MTG tournaments.

I'm 95% of the way through the PHB, and I think I will be trying out(when I get to play) an Uthgart Barbarian(Wolf Clan). I'm going to try and play straight Barbarian, but picking up a few levels in fighter is way too tempting.

I used to run 4E encounters('til like, 2011), but I dropped out after awhile, not enjoying 4E and all.

I'm actually thinking of running 5E Encounters and Expeditions at the FLGS nearby, and maybe even playing sometimes. Hopefully. Haven't figured out a character yet. Still reading through the classes.

I'm going to hold off on my opinions of the game until I get my PHB(hopefully this week), but I did get interested enough in the previews to do a little more research and it looks like I will like it. A few of us that started playing again in 3.0/3.5, grew real disillusioned with 4E after a couple years(even after helping playtest it(insert side story here)), and now I'm interested again.

We thought 4E was well-balanced, yes, but we got the feeling that everyone's practically the same, just in different ways.   :-\ I like what I've seen of 5E in the different character builds, and we'll see what 5E character balance will be like at higher levels. We'll see...

My money. Mr Glancy has it.

I'm just glad Caleb & Glancy's kickstarters are at least 30 days apart...  :P

I was never aware that Detwiller wrote for the Prototype game.

And Ross ran some of the guys(Cody, Jason, and Tom) through a CoC scenario based off it! http://actualplay.roleplayingpublicradio.com/2010/04/systems/call-of-cthulhu/call-of-cthulhu-prototype-a-town-called-hope/
