Part of the problem of deciding is I've made the mistake of realizing that Amazon has frequent Kindle book sales: a few days ago I picked up The Martian by Andy Weir, Ready Player One by Ernest Cline, and Dead Wake by Erik Larson for $6.36. Total! So, naturally I decided to not read any of those. . .

This is why I both love and hate my Kindle.  Cheap books, yay!  How many actually get read?  Errr. . .yeah :(

I actually have a Kickstarter of my own to pimp out. I'm co-writing a space adventure RPG. Please check it out.

I'm going to give each player a secret private objective in addition to their escape plan, including some competitive ones to increase tension. :) But I'll try to avoid spoilers here, since I'm thinking of coming down to Springfield GAME and running it there.

This sounds great!

My experience with Dread is to get into pulls quickly and go around the table in order every few minutes to make sure every player gets a pull.  Dread is better as a short, but dynamic experience.  By being quick, it kind of feels like a quick "cut" to the next character, and everyone is engaged in the story because the narrative center switches so quickly.  When I did this, I used a countdown timer on my phone and made sure everyone could see it, and they had to make a pull when the countdown expired.

Hope that helps!

The Onion's parody clickbait site, ClickHole, has all sorts of bizarre/strange vidyas, but this one in particular has plenty of material that can be used in a fucked-up hotel:

Kinda late here, but if you are running GUMSHOE for a group, I highly recommend running the quick demo for Night's Black Agents, Excess Baggage.  It's fast, well-designed, and can be extended beyond the "20 minute" demo into a longer one-shot.

Role Playing Public Radio Podcast / Re: Red Markets Alpha Playtest
« on: August 16, 2015, 08:07:19 PM »
Just a quick suggestion after reading the beta and listening to the APs:

The Scam system seems quite entertaining, but it might need a little "cheat sheet" or template to guide new Markets and Takers.  Since it uses non-linear time, maybe setting up a cheat sheet as a storyboard-type playmat might be useful.

This isn't an "official" reply to the playtest questionnaire because it might be something useful to add to the current playtests to see if it helps.  Along those lines, a similar three-column image showing what rolls are free, what needs to be bought, and what charges to use might be useful.

I love it so far, though. :)
