15,000 years of language cognates: http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/health-science/linguists-identify-15000-year-old-ultraconserved-words/2013/05/06/a02e3a14-b427-11e2-9a98-4be1688d7d84_story.html

I have the PNAS article that is mentioned in this if anyone is really interested in reading some hardcore linguistics research.

Get and read Masks of Nyarlathotep - even if you don't run it, it provides an excellent example of a CoC campaign, which will answer all of your questions.

I agree with this. Also, reading through the starter scenarios in the core book will give you some idea about how to structure it. The key is to not think about it as a linear scenario, so don't think of it at all in terms of the D&D quest. CoC adventures are sandboxes. The players are going to do the unexpected. Things won't happen in the order that you think they will. It's better to think about it as designing a world and then letting a group of sociopaths run free.

I'm currently locking this thread. Ross can decide whether or not he wants to unlock it.

Great story about the smuggling of manuscripts out of Timbuktu: http://www.newrepublic.com/article/112898/timbuktu-librarians-duped-al-qaeda-save-books

trust me, I want your money

but I gotta finish my Kickstarter before I launch another one

Oh, Ross has so many ideas of how to take your money. Soon there will be Puritan Era CoC games. Posthuman CoC Carcosa games. And so many other things. You don't even know.

I run two Pathfinder games: one for my two brothers over Ventrillo (we're supposed to play every week, but it's been about 3 weeks since our last session), and another one for some friends, who all have weird work schedules. That one we last played in February, and our next one is scheduled for May 18. Every once in a while, I'll go play Pathfinder Society ORganized Play at a nearby game store, to scratch my character-playing itch.

My older brother is starting up a Vampire the Masquerade game. So far I've made a character, but we haven't played yet.

How is Vent for running games? I liked it when I used to play a lot of D2 back in the day.
