RPGs / NerdVemberfest 2013 Philadelphia Area Gamers Unite!
« on: September 23, 2013, 04:33:21 PM »
Hey All you Philly Gaming fans! Come Join My Friends and I in helping start our own local gaming convention, This will be our first attempt and We need all the help we can get to come out and make this hopefully annual Gaming con a success!

Here's the pre-written spiel now, that is more eloquent than my own words...

Imagine the swanky Montgomery ballroom at the Holiday Inn - Ft. Washington, where 14 RPGing tables are raging all-day long. D&D (1e, 2e, and 4e), Pathfinder, Iron Kingdoms, DungeonWorld, 13th Age, Call of Cthulhu, Star Wars: Edge of the Empire, FATE, GURPS, Legend of the Five Rings (L5R), and Paranoia are all being played. Amazing GMs running the games they love.

http://nerdvember.org

Join old friends and make connections with many new gamers from the area. Starting small, we're building a con for the Philly area and you can be a part of it from the start!

Raffles for gently used gaming gear. A continuous old school D&D dungeoncrawl with miniatures will run the entire day, jump in and jump out of the action whenever you want. Much more to come.

Best of all, there's no admission charge to get in. Your donation would be appreciated to help defray costs.

I hope to see some fellow RPPR fans out there!

RPGs / Gaming Group looking for more players
« on: March 13, 2011, 12:33:45 PM »
Hey all, I'm part of a non-profit gaming group based sort of around Philadelphia, PA, and we are currently looking for more players to join up, which is shocking because we used to have very few GM's.

I'm not sure if i can advertise our website so i'm going to refrain, but we are called Gamepodz, and we are trying to spread the word about us out there.  Right now we are trying to get people that are interested in all sorts of various games connected and to have a place where they could find games to play or schedule games they want to run.

If you're around the area and looking for groups, please check us out, heck we even want people from not around the area so we can take this sort of thing nationwide...though that's clearly a pipe dream.

Role Playing Public Radio Podcast / 4e Skill Challenge question
« on: March 02, 2011, 06:07:11 PM »
I've a question about skill challenges (clearly), mostly when they are done in the middle of combat.  I know using a skill in combat is normally a standard action, though I'm ruling them as minor actions, is that generally considered the same for the skill challenges?

i.e. in a typical 4 success before 3 failures, while the rest of the party is fighting off some enemies, and 1 or two people are trying to escape the fast current of a river they fell into, or turn a device that's attacking them into one that will benefit them, do the PC's only get the 1 standard action check per turn?  (though obviously if done as a minor they could have up to three).

What do all of you typically do?

Role Playing Public Radio Podcast / 4e combat speed
« on: February 07, 2011, 11:29:33 PM »
Does anyone have any good tips about ways to make the combat in 4e go faster. after our last session, which ended up being 5 hours for 5 PC's and 1  npc to fight 3 orcs and 3 bears, and we didn't even finish the fight even after 2 of the PC's (mine in the first round, but that was completely my own fault for horrible tactics) and the NPC died.

It just seems that all the fights we've been having seem to take forever and just drag down the story.  I can't deny that there are some problems that are clearly factors, such as some p[layers seeming to take forever to say what they are doing, as well as a feeling that the DM might not know the system that well.

But even still when we all seem to have things down pat, it still seems to drag on past exciting to boring.

Any ideas?
