Monsters and Other Childish Things

I started listening to RPPR a few weeks ago, and when I heard Ross mention Monsters and Other Childish Things, it sounded interesting, but something I would pick up at a later date.

Then he kept mentioning it, and mentioning it, and over and over again I would hear about this game and become more and more interested. Finally, I believe I was listening to the .. Gencon 2009 wrap-up maybe? And I decided I had to buy the game -this minute-. That was Tuesday, while I was working (yay security jobs, and yay Amazon application for my Android), and it just arrived today.

I have to say, this game is everything I was hoping for and more. The layout is fantastic, the content is superb, and the author is hilarious, witty, and quite intelligent. I can see why Ross holds such a torch for this game, and I think that I may be soon following in that regard.

The main reasoning for this post is mostly just to say, if there's anybody out there in the intarwebs who's been thinking about buying Monsters, or maybe they're not quite sure if it's up their alley, I -highly- recommend it. If you like modern fantasy/horror, I think this game will happily surprise you with how intelligent it is.

Also, ahem, this is my first post. Big fan, rock on Ross and Tom (and Cody, and other such people)!

Welcome to the forums!  If it weren't for RPPR, I too would not have known about this fantastic game.  And speaking of Monsters and Other Childish Things. . .

Hehe I mentioned to Ross on Twitter that I purchased the game, and his first (and only) response was "Make sure to buy Road Trip!"

Unfortunately, I'm broke, and I've already bought more than I should this month, so I'll have to hold off.

Also, I actually think that Candlewick Manor sounds incredibly interesting! I might want to buy that as well.

You should tell Ross that. Specifically say "Candlewick Manor is by far more interesting than Curriculum of Conspiracy". We would all enjoy a group laugh.

there's an AP of MAOCT author Ben Baugh running Candlewick at Dragon 09 on the AP site. It hasn't gotten many comments though.

Yup. These guys introduced me to MaOTC, too. Great book, very glad I picked it up.

I also blame them for my purchase of Pantheon (which is great fun when drinks are involved, lemme tell you) and Don't Rest Your Head, both of which are awesome.

Now if only I had someone to blame for my buying World of Synnibarr.

Part of me desperately wants to buy Synnibarr just because I enjoy collecting RPGs of any kind, and a great many of them offer quite a laugh to read through. However, after hearing the description of the Werestorm and Wereweres .. I just don't know if my fragile mind could take that kind of insanity.

Well and then you get into the equipment section and find missiles that do 1d12 x 500,000,000 damage and armors that can absorb 11.8 billion points of damage.

World of Synnibarr:  I hope you like arithmetic.

Do it.  I bought it off Amazon from the publisher and they sent me a copy of the player's supplement.

I love Synnibar, it's exactly my style of balls to the wall, unabashed power fantasy that, though you have to pretty much rip the shredding it gives you to shreds to play it with (I'm working up a World of Synnibar/Daikatana crossover), could be absolutely hilarious and awesome with the right people.

Imagine a party of a chameleon drake, a female wereman (no, she doesn't turn into a man at the full moon, she absorbs lasers and fires them back even stronger, meshing with the drake's optional laser breath for a uber death cannon with tits) a raccoon, talking, with a macromissile launcher (they can launch up to 800 missiles A ROUND!) and a Bio-Syntha Cyborg with his Midnight Sunstone Bazooka. =D
