thread necromancy

finally got some money to build it.

The utility player build listed here http://techreport.com/articles.x/18042/4 looks like a good match for my budget. A question though:

I have a 500 gig HD from my XP box that I'd like to put in the new machine. I'm a grad student so I can get a Windows 7 professional upgrade for $65 apparently according to this http://www.microsoft.com/student/discounts/theultimatesteal-us/terms.aspx

How hard is it going to be to use this existing HD as the boot drive for a new windows 7 box? The deal on windows 7 only applies to an upgrade of an existing install - not a fresh one.
