yeah, I read Ligotti because of Caleb's recommendations back in the No Security era and love-hated him the same way I do Lovecraft originals. great ideas, fucknoxious prose. I laughed and laughed and laughed when Matthew McConaughey went on an anti-natalist rant in True Detective that could've been lifted straight from a Ligotti interview except that the dialogue sounded like it might've been spoken by a human.

On the topic of reading recommendations, are there any must-reads for getting an understanding of espionage techniques/developing planning abilities for realistic espionage?

Well a classic from the Cold War era is Dulles' The Craft of Intelligence.

By itself it won't give you the modern SIGINT details and what-have-you but it is pretty fundamental for a lot of core issues.

I'm sure there has to be some good recommendations in Night's Black Agents for further reading on this topic.

It's called "listening to Caleb and doing as he does".

Hey, I wrote this.

http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product/126321/Eclipse-Phase-The-Devotees?term=the+devotees

If you would like to help me get more writing work in the EP universe, it would be good to buy. Plus, it's a solid 2-3 nights of tranhuman espionage gaming for $10.00, so it's good value for your money.

The playtest of the scenario should be posted in the next few days.

Thanks!

I bought it before you wrote it, so nyah!

Looking forward to the playtest.

To day I learned...
That someone ran Lover in the Ice as a Dark Heresy scenario.

It ended with the Seppuku Protocols being enacted in the form of an orbital defense laser battery.  That sounds like a successfully game...right?

Any Dark Heresy game that doesn't end with "Purge the planet" is a wasted opportunity.

Caleb, were you aware of

Listening to the Devotees playtest was almost like taking a class in module design--you could really see the rules coming out: existing social conflict (including established factions and outsiders), a timetable (but with plenty of lead time for planning), the existing players in the setting have their own motivations and plans (and they will play out unless the player characters interfere), clear and objective standards of success (but many come with a cost), challenges in different arenas (combat, social, technical).

Kudos.

I am really looking forward to A Very Thorough Murder part 3. It's been damned good so far. Major kudos to GM and players.

Caleb has rapidly become a favorite in my recent game of catchup with RPPR games. also working up a game system myself the last few months, he and Ross's workshop episodes have been both helpful, entertaining, and an insightful sell that's got me itching to hear and read more on Red Market

also the Dungeon World game just been outstanding sort of fantasy game. really an ideal I like to see: hits the big fantasy tropes, but have a big "fuck you, boredom" curve thrown in with the giant corpse island
