STEAM SUMMER SALE  recommendations

Hey guys. Check out the following if you like post-apoc survival games LIKE RED MARKETS.

http://www.pcworld.com/article/3088761/software-games/more-steam-summer-sale-gems-15-great-games-under-5.html#slide3

Quote
Neo Scavenger   UNDER $5.

Speaking of ugly, brutal, and wonderful games, fans of tough experiences will want to check out Neo Scavenger ($4.94 during the sale).

You wake up in a wasteland with no idea what’s going on, and must survive long enough to figure out the randomized world. Saying that’s harder than it sounds would be an understatement. The game’s mechanics don’t let up, with the constant threats of hunger, weather exposure, dehydration, and devastatingly dirty no-holds-barred combat looming. The fighting, wound system, and inventory are all gloriously, sometimes frustratingly realistic. And did I mention that when you die, you stay dead, and have to start over? There aren’t even experience points in the game—you just learn how to play it better.

Neo Scavenger won’t be for everyone. But if you like it, you’ll love it, and it’s worth rolling the dice when the game’s selling for under $5. The combat system alone is worth it.

This War of Mine
This War of Mine ($4.99 during the sale) puts you in the shoes of civilians simply trying to survive in a war-torn land. It’s not “fun” in the classical sense. But This War of Mine is stark, sobering, eye-opening, and incredibly well assembled. It’s the antithesis of Call of Duty, and well worth your time.

Metro Redux series
Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light are tense, deeply atmospheric first-person shooters set in the subways of post-apocalyptic Russia—until you’re drawn into the wastelands left on the surface. These are some of my favorite story-driven shooters of all time, with a cool STALKER-like vibe. The recently released Redux versions polish up each game with more fetching visuals.

The games are $4.99 a pop during the Summer Sale. If you can only afford one, grab Metro 2033 first.

Bullets are currency.

Another one for the film nerds:

<a href="" target="_blank" class="aeva_link bbc_link new_win"></a>

A little documentary about the New Beverly Cinema, a repertory theatre in LA that counts a number of famous geeks amongst it's patrons, and the medium of 35mm film.  As an ode to the 35mm film format, Out of Print hasn't been released in any digital format (in fact there's only one 35mm print in existence), so there's only a limited number of theatres where it can be seen.  One of the local independent theatres that has retained its 35mm projector screened it over the weekend, and some of the staff also interviewed the director on their podcast.

I know Caleb has used and talked about Scrivener.

Anyone take the $20 plunge for the iOS version?

There are decades of old RPG stuff to comb through for after hours before we even reach stuff made in this century. I think we'll leave ponyfinder alone for a while.

I don't like iOS and try to avoid it, so idk.

I'm planning to. I'll let you know how it works on iPad/iPhone.

Creepyfig cosplay at SDCC 2016

Quote
If you were at San Diego Comic Con 2016 and was at the LEGO booth, you may have seen some creepy looking thing hanging out at the booth and around the con. It turns out it was a real-life minifigure cosplay by Adam Savage’s team at Tested which they call creepyfig.

The minifigure is made of silicone with and includes some things like ears, eyebrow hair, and nails on the hand to make the creepyfig look more realistic. Check out the video below to be creeped out.

Huh, interesting.  I shared that story on a couple of lego fan message boards and the reactions in those places were shock, horror and disgust; from people who are presumably familiar with the uncanniness of lego minifigs.

When that hotline bling, it can only mean one thing.

The Devolver figures look real nice. I'd get them if I had the kind cash to drop on figurines.
