Have any of you tried playing this?
« on: July 20, 2011, 12:05:30 PM »
So I was listening to an old podcast and they mentioned playing a D&D version of Pirates of the Caribbean. This reminded me that just this past semester, a group of mine played a D&D version of Avatar. I wonder if anyone else has heard/ played it and what they thought of it?

By the way, since you mentioned it. I would like to say that Avatar (good CGI movie), is a total rip off of Fern Gully (Family feature film). It was Fern Gully in space

I was thinking Last of the Mohicans myself. What movie wouldn't benefit from a digital Daniel Day-Lewis?

Anyway, to answer the original question, no I have not heard of such a game using a D&D mod. However I think that would be a perfectly viable version of the game, using 4th Edition rules.

It's actually a fun game. The only downside is that the Earth bender is a little broken, doesn't quite meet standards. but I would definately reccoment it. Who wouldn't want to kick fireballs. If anyone is interested. I have a PDF of the RPG..just ask and I can email it to any of you

Based on the movie, or the cartoon?  ie, do the powers completely suck (are slow, weak, fire benders who can barely scorch a piece of flashpaper and need to carry around lanterns), or are they badass?

You can put it up on mediafire.com and just post the link in this thread.

It is based off the cartoon.  The benders follow that fire benders are the strongest, with air and water in the middle and earth being a bit weak.  he biggest problem with the earthbenders is they are defenders that are too focused with surviving and not protecting.  I will find the link...and if I can't find it I'll repost it.

i thought the whole point of avatar was that everybody is equal. it had the whole equality theme running throughout the entire show. all the elements are suppose to be equally powerful, at least that's what i thought. and when they aren't the avatar comes around and puts everything back in place.

The creator of this game just didn't power balance the classes right. He thought they were balanced. We were guinea pigs with our campaign and we soon realized this was an issue. We informed him of this unequal power balance, but he didn't seem to think there was an issue. So I dunno what to tell you except, it should be balanced
