Dan's Patreon Ptolus Campaign
« on: February 23, 2016, 03:19:11 PM »
Right so I'm super excited for this game. My character is Elana Sicari, a half-elf bard/warlock. She runs an orphanage in Midtown on  close to the border of the Warrens, called "The Sicari Home for Wayward Youth". The orphanage, while fully functional, is partially a front for her far-left, nationalist, pro-Ptolus independence party. Because when you're plotting some kind of revolution, bloodless or otherwise, it's always best to hide it behind the smiling faces of the parentless youth you're taking care of. Ignore the shady thugs, they're just there to hold the kids down during emotional outbursts. No we don't have a loansharking operation, but we do accept donations to help The Children.

This campaign's gonna be crazy. I love it already.

My character is Wraqrin "Freezer" Turnuroth, a NG Dragonborn Sorcerer. He's a leader in the Brotherhood of Redemption, an order of monks who seek to turn evil creatures into good ones by giving them the chance to repent. Whereas most of the other factions in the city are either filled with evil souls or planning dark things, the Brotherhood is what it says on the tin, though due to an advantageous marriage they get roped into helping out everyone anyway. Wraqrin truly buys into the Brotherhood's ways; he was saved from certain death by a Brotherhood member as a hatchling, and eventually became good friends with his would be killer after he changed his ways. As he strives for self-improvement, he finds himself roped into the schemes of his fellow citizens of Ptolus...

(My character sheet is almost done; just gotta pick a magical item, then I'll get it to Dan.)

Is he called the Freezer because of his ice magic or because of his chilly stare?

One of the things in the 5th Ed book about naming Dragonborn is that they're supposed to have a nickname that is used by their fellow friends and siblings as a term of endearment. Since Wraqrin is a Silver dragon he has ice breath. I imagine an incident where he froze someone or something and it's an incident that he never lived down, so he uses that as his nickname. He'll let you use it once you get to know him.

Hell, get on Elana's good side she might even call him Snowball.

How are you on like, core personality traits? I know 5th Ed hands out options based on background but I feel like the characters aren't as super defined by them. It's more like background provides a quirk and advantage.

@Vivax

I did pick from the tables; it's a little too random for random rolls. After Dan approves my character sheet I presume we can post them here or in the Google Drive. My focus is to use the picks or rolls as touchstones for the overall character.

@constructacon

That's more a Ross / Dan question, but if what I think is correct our campaign will either take the third slot of the Patreon games or will be run at Dan's leisure when he's available and he can get enough PCs. Regardless of methodology, the episodes stream live on the RPPR YouTube channel, and if you're a backer it isn't impossible the you could get a slot as a silent 'live studio audience.'

I need to send him mine but he didn't really reply to my request for a deadline? So I'm not sure if he's checking that email.

Incidentally I found my uncommon magic item, it's one of the Bardic Instruments. They give you some nifty spells you can cast once a day.

I haven't actually chosen which thing I want to make a pact with for the warlock bit. Great Old one is really interesting but not really in keeping with the theme I have going. Fae makes sense but mechanically there's not too much benefit for a bard. Demon is weirdly apropos if I want to get all "rock and roll is the devil's music" but Elana's goals aren't so much self aggrandisement as sociopolitical. IDK what do you think?

Well, I suppose it depends on how much you want to split the level divide, if Elana is gonna have more levels of Bard of Warlock. Since we're RPPR fans, I'd say Eldritch, but if those options are the only three, perhaps Fae is the better one.

I think I actually need to talk to Dan about what his expectations are RE: warlock patron meddling. I can send him the sheet so far though, that and the org sheet.

Wraqrin here. Episode 2 was so much fun. I'm kinda surprised we survived, but I'll take it! Now to plan our next moves...

Fisker John the Golden, Paladin of vengeance! Leader of the Sons of Aurous! A (less than) humble seeker of his divine light.

We need to rip that mecha-hydra's scrap metal out of the ice dungeon so we can start growing our armoury.

 So Elana and Perun were going to team up with our respective organizations to put the house in reasonable order for human habitation, gardening and maybe as a performance space (I may have invented that bit)? We want to make sure that we have a credible claim on the building that we've helped clear of horrible chaos magic, demons, undead and a weird haunting curse. Presumably there's some kind of precedent for people taking over abandoned buildings or taking over buildings that were ignored by the owners and relevant authorities for years. If necessary this can take the form of Elana using the "Small Horizons" feature of her organization to reduce the difficulty of the roll because she's someone who knows lots of people.

I have no idea what the roll would be. Or really how the Reign rules interact here (since I don't own Reign).
