Play by Wave?
« on: November 02, 2009, 03:26:43 AM »
I was just wondering how many of my friends over here at RPPR have access to Google Wave? If this applies to you have you tried any of the Play by Wave games?

What game would you like to lose your Wave-ginity to?

I have yet to be invited to wave, but If i was there is one game a I really want to play over it, ECLIPSE PHASE!

But yeah, the idea of gaming over the net, via skype or something else has been gnawing at me ever since my group scattered to the four winds.

Well WAVE still has a lot of kinks. I'm trying to get into a game there.

Zendead over at Hiddengrid invited the SaaM crew to play a Shadowrun game over skype, I'm definitely interested, but I honestly am not too familiar with skype, is there a d6 system app. that I'd be using to determine rolls? I assume I don't just trust the rolls they claim.

If it means more access to gaming than I'll learn to use it.

What's the use of lying on rolls? Making up your stats works wayy better. Jk!
I used to play M:TG over the phone with my buddies (three way calling), Those were some fun games.

but yeah, if someone gets a game up I'll do everything in my power to play.

Honestly... Wave makes me feel old and stupid. I'm 25!!! I'd love to give all of you an invite, however, it's closed beta. Register at wave.google.com and tell 'em you are a mad scientist scheming to use the Wave platform to develop the ultimate form of mind control and it'll move you a couple of spots up on the invite list.

I'm really hoping they open up the Wave beta sooner than later.  Google basically owns my electronic life at this point because they build such useful tools.

I tried to have one of my group Skype in for our Shotgun Diaries game last week.  It had a short delay apparently.  Anyone know if that is just an internet connection issue?  The other issue could be the program I was using to record, SoundTap Streaming Audio.  Anyway, I'm a huge fan of Skype in general as the conference call feature can unite groups across about any distance.  Hopefully I won't require it any time soon.

I'm considering having some guest spots occasionally for some of our games if anyone would be interested.  It would require some pre-game Skype optimization to ensure audio quality.  I'm totally open to tips for success.

I assume Skype is just like ventrilo, wich is widly used in World of Warcraft raiding, and meny other computer games. Theres allways going to be a 1-2 second delay just due to the connection. I never used Skype but, I love vent. So I can see how it can be enjoyable. I know with vent you can get free servers to connect to with like 10 people max but we have a 70 man server that one of our guys pays 10 bucks a month on, granted never seen it more then 30 on there but still.

We could just hijack the vent for three hours.
You can set up private rooms right?

Ahh online PnP best ever.

Other than wave, I assume you could utilize google docs to do some wicked play-by-post type of game.

Yeah, we are using Skype for the shadowrun game and incorporating Goggle Docs and Swaggle.mobi for character backgrounds, and comm-link simulation. Game should start next Tues and be available on both Swing And A Miss and Hiddengrid. I can't wait. I'm thinking if we actually use Swaggle I'll have to supply a timeline of messages to download with the podcast. Not sure that'll be easy.

I'm also on Wave now.

moody.designer@googlewave(dot)com

also, there is a dicebot you can use to roll dice.

dice-y@appspot.com
Code: [Select]
Add it to the wave and it'll take dice rolls in the format [xdy+n] and provide a result in the form of [xdy+n=result]
