Someone emailed me for advice on running Candle Cove. This is my reply.
What was the Skin Taker supposed to be? I was leaning towards goetic demon from Mage but I don't have the mage book so I purposely left it vague. It is whatever works best for your game.
From a game design perspective, Candle Cove was meant to emulate a Hitchcock film's basic structure: multiple characters chasing after the same macguffin - in this case, the Candle Cove VHS. In order to make it more dynamic, I had two opposing antagonists: the cult and the skin taker. The cult had very limited supernatural resources so they relied on mundane techniques - goons, subterfuge and the like. The skin taker could only briefly manifest in the real world so it was limited as well. This set up gave me a lot of latitude in running encounters and keeping things exciting.
Hope this helps.
