This is the rumor I based Slender Man on: (from http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?t=120418 )

Take a look at some of your old photos. Do you have one that's a street scene, maybe from a vacation? Look at it closely. See that guy in the background, in the dark suit? You have to look carefully the first time.

Now look at some other photos. See that figure in the background? Yup, same guy.

He's in the background of a lot of your pictures. Anything where there's a crowd. Always a crowd. He doesn't want to stand out. It's not just you. He's in everyone's pictures. He's stuck there, has been for a hundred and fifty years. Back in 1839 he stopped for a shoeshine, and Daguerre trapped him. He's been trying to find a way out ever since.

Try looking at the pictures again in a few years. He'll be a little closer to the camera.

I know there's a fine line between under and over explaining stuff in horror but these scenarios help me figure out the Slender Man mythos. Once I'm fully satisfied with the underlying structure of my take of Slender Man, I'll probably leave it a little less explained. Also, it's bullshit if you don't explain a weird horror thing enough - the horror of realizing what the supernatural really is is also pretty scary.

All you need to explain is what Slendy does, not who he is or why he does it. If you most give him a backstory, don't make him a human, make him an idea. He should be the reson parents tell their kids not to go too far into the woods or not stay out at night. People don't know what came first Slendy or the storys about him. All they know is that he's been here for a while.

Once again, not trying to diss your interpretation. I've always wanted to have a MaoCT game where Slender Man is a reverse engineered, anti-monster MIB shock troopers
I am going for a cinematic monster and pretty much every great cinematic monster has a backstory - it's part of the horror.

Yeah, I can see how the "IT WAS ONCE A MAN!" thing can be scary.
I'm sure you're just as experience in horror as Ross is. As in, I'm sure you've written a few horror films and filmed one of your own and written and GM'ed over 1000 horror games, but that could be the most cliche idea ever.
+10 points for defending ross' honor. good job.  :-\

I honestly didn't have a problem with "defining" Slender Man's origins, it fit in pretty well with the way the game was run.

The only thing I wish is that the game was about 3 hours longer.
I was seriously enjoying the confrontation right before all the PCs get dragged into the 'corridor', and I was kinda disappointed when it was ended so abruptly.

Plus I have a feeling that the 'corridor'/end world had a shitton more terrifying or bizarre stuff in it that the PCs never got a chance to see.

I would say this about most of the one-shots that are showcased. There's only so many hours in the week and there's so many games to play, so it's not reasonable for RPPR to give full treatment to the games they play. I like to think that they're demoing the product and trying to get you, the window-shopping customer, to buy it and try it yourself.

I also think that something like Slender Man is only scary in still form with people making stories about him. Half the shit you saw in "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" wouldn't be remotely scary if played as an RP scenario. It's been mentioned before that something like Slender Man works best when you see him very little and know nothing about him or his motives.

But as Ross mentioned, cinematic monsters don't work that way.

Also... I keep imagining Slender Man without a face, so I have problems imagining him approaching a camera with frustration. He has no features!  ???

EDIT: Also-also, I just noticed the post about the Little Fears: Night of the Squashed Cat game, which in the synopsis says that it's based on several of the "Scary Stories" stories. I gotta hear this now.

Well our game sessions are 3 hours in length on average so by definition, it would not be a one shot if the game was 6 hours long. It would be a two shot.

Nothing wrong with that...  :)

And when I say I wish they were longer, it's definitely not a criticism. This was an enthralling AP, and I loved it. Thusly I wish there was even more of it.

And @seejo, I like the idea of the one-shot AP's as a "showcase". Makes a good amount of sense.

the main reason our sessions are 3 hours in length is that Tom works and he gets tired so he can't stay up very late  :-[  :'(  :'(

The moral of this story, Kroack, is if you're a dick on the boards, I'll be a dick back.

Poor lonely Slender Man in his film and video city.

Actually, wait a second; does this mean he can summon PORN?

And how. He can summon lost porn like all the Traci Lords porn that was destroyed because she was underage.

I vote this as the next Cinco De Mayo game.

Did you listen to it? It's really old and we sucked as RP'ers in that game for Ross. I think what I remember most is Jason saying, "I'm going to go get my bat!" Good times.
