A thread about gaming and lifestyles.
« on: April 02, 2010, 01:00:12 AM »
I was thinking today, and I realized that tabletop role playing will most likely be something that I will do for the rest of my life.  There are some things that pass as you get older, such as the music you listen to, the style of clothes that you wear, and even beliefs that you hold dear.  But I'm pretty sure that gaming is such an integral part of my life, that it isn't something that will fade away and I'll end up selling all my gaming books because I've moved on or grown up.

Discuss.

You: "Okay, you're a level 12 rogue, and you're job is to use your thieving skills to break into the necromancers keep, and steal his book that holds a spell that could destroy the kingdom!"

Them: "I wanna play shuffleboard"

People don't change. Old people do what they did when they were younger, they don't really "grow up". I look forward to my eventual retirement and playing Role Emersion Simulations with my AIs and holo-dice. Infact, when AI is birthed and I can program my players I won't need real people anymore.

And I'll be doing it just down the hall from the neck bread assholes who still think AD&D is the only "real" D&D.

I feel the same way, I dont think gaming will ever leave me. Look at all the old people as you said playing shuffleboard, im sure in a home its prob not going to be going on, but who says im gonna be living in a home. There are plenty of older gamers out there still gaming. might not be every week or even every month, but I bet there still out there doing it, when they get the chance.

I dunno, it might be pretty popular in nursing homes once our generation gets there. Low-impact, sucks up the time... and old people stay awake just long enough for a standard play session!

Seriously though, I can actually imagine that as a pretty happy retirement. Hanging out with a bunch of my elderly friends, playing RPGs daily.

We'd finally have time to try out all those weird indy games and be socially justified in our constant complains out them since we're old.

We should start a fund for a gaming retirement home right now, so by the time we start going senile we'll be ready.

I don't know about you all, but I definitely plan to spend a lot of time in retirement playing video games and roleplaying games...

Fund? Screw that. Using this forum as my market research, I'm going to start a business plan.  :)

Well then I'm going to wager my money that your loan agency will fail and use the money I make to finance my own plans.

You don't want to support "The Moody Home for Esoteric Retirees?" :(

No, I'm going to support it. Infact I'll invest in the company but I'm going to establish a seperate fund that pays out if the business loans you secured fail.

Then I'll sell my invested interest to known poor decision makers, pressure the loan agency, and when the loan collapses use the money from the hedged fund to purchase controlling interest in a now struggling company.

Than I'll change the name to "The Moody Commemorative Home for Esoteric Retirees".

I heard you could get a realy good deal on this island just outside of italy, only access to it is by boat, but hey just load them up in a huge shipping freighter, the only thing that can stop one of them is a German U-boat, And we havent seen one of them in years!
