I'm in the process of reading that thread.  Yaaaay, time theft!  I'd hate to toss my hat in without getting a lay of the ... pit, really.  But most definitely I plan on diving into the pit with nary a second thought.

Hi, guys. I'm 36 and started gaming in 5th grade with the old TSR Marvel Super Heroes game. I live near New Orleans and am unemployable back in college trying to finish my degree. 

To paraphrase Clint Eastwood in "Unforgiven", I've played Toon and Torg. I've played or run just about everything that rolled dice or consulted a table at one time or another. And I'm here to kill you Little Bill, for...well, it sort of breaks down as a paraphrase after that. Anyways, the point is that I've played a lot of roleplaying games, good, bad, and indifferent. I made a point of not playing D&D, Call or Cthluhu or Vampire for a while because it made me feel special, but I got eventually got over it.

While I still get together with (old) college friends for a D&D 4E campaign about once every month or two and hang out on RPG.net, listening to RPPR has gone a long way toward helping me get my fix of vulgarity, smarm, and hammy make believe.

I've never even see the show so I don't know much about it

Anyway

there are indie elitists for everything - in RPGs they tend to be from the forge, a notorious indie rpg community - good things came out of them like Dogs in the Vineyard but they fukken hate so-called 'mainstream' RPGs.

With me, it was a result of a conflicted self-image, an artsy fartsy disdain for "rollplaying" (hur!), and a suspicion of anything that was Popular. Popular, after all, must equate to Crap, right?

I've since come to some terms with my deep, fundamental nerdality, realized that those games can produce GREAT storytelling, and the also appreciated the fact that popular/mainstream things aren't necessarily complete shit 100% of the time.

Also, 4th Edition D&D is just a hell of a lot of fun.

Anyways, don't roleplay much due to the fact that none of my friends are into the hobby, but I'm working on starting a nWoD group with my girlfriend and a few others.

I am the Spring Augur.
I play 3.5 and Call of Cthulhu
I played 4e for 2 sessions at the release, thought there was a lot of fun,, and that there was a huge improvement in combat.
Haven't had the chance to play it since.
