DragonCon anyone???
« on: August 11, 2010, 09:15:02 PM »
Is anyone coming to Atlanta for Dragoncon?  I know Ross is running a bunch of games, but don't know of any others heading this way.

I have been told by Arc Dream that they were unable to secure a booth from the Dragoncon people so they won't be going.

Ergo, I can't afford to go.

Is DragonCon that big a deal that space is hard to get? They could manage that whole square of combo-publishing at GenCon but DragonCon has the bouncer stop them at the door?

That sucks!  I hope you had fun on vacation though.

Tad, you should come on down. It is not "that" much further a drive than Indy.

Hey, your right, only 2600 fucking miles. No way I'm driving that again. Unless the cost of a plane ticket involves limb or ball removal it's gonna be airlines all the way from Seattle to the Hyatt next year.

I was relieved by how professional GenCon was while I was there. My fears of a chaotic event where unfounded.

Are you shattering my illusion that all conventions are so well organized and reasonable?

Dragoncon is a good bit different than Gencon.  A LOT more cosplay and partying.  It is way more crowded with people just hanging around in your way as you try to get somewhere.  One cool thing about is that there is big college football game downtown that weekend also ( LSU and UNC this year ).  And both teams are visitors, so a lot of the fans stay downtown.  That provides for an interesting mix of people.  Drunken college football fans and drunken geeks with swords.

There is a good amount of gaming, although I am disappointed by the number of games available early on.  And with Arc Dream pulling out there goes half of my gaming I preregistered for.  I got several Dresden files games scheduled and hope to pick up some interesting stuff that was just not listed for the prereg.  aybe some pickup Fiasco and boardgames.

Last year was my first year going in many years.  It was also where I started playing non-DnD games.  My first non-DnD game since before 3.0 was a Monsters game with Ross last year.  And it is only about 3 miles from my house.

I gotta say that doesn't sound like my idea of a good time. Free roaming parties aren't my style.

I went before and have to say that I was a bit underwhelmed. Go to PAX Prime instead, I say. It's a bit closer to home and still has a strong gaming component.

I thought dragoncon was great and my only regret was not getting to see any of the free late night concerts or parties because I was running games at that time

the games were fun but I wanted to do both

oh well
