Civilization V came out today! Now all I have to do is survive the work day and possibly find an excuse to go home early.

WHAT?!?! How did Civ V slip past me? Excuse me I have a phone call to make...

Sweet deal I always liked Archers, looks like I will be picking that up eventually.
Free demo on steam, 3 playable civs, Ramses, Alexander, and I think Darius of Persia or something. I dled it, installed it, then was like "you know what fuck this" and bought it about an hour later, knew I was going to anyway. It looks very nice, although some of the little perks I miss. For example, when you build a wonder it doesn't do the cool building animation while Nimoy speaks.

Haven't gotten too far into it but: The grid is now a hex grid, the combat is quite a bit different, and they now have social policy trees you can unlock with culture points rather than civics (looks like a really nice system). Not sure how I feel about the combat, although I get why they did it. You can no longer have stacks of doom, or stacks of any type for that matter. Also, archers and such are now ranged units that can attack 2 squares (err, hexes) away, which changes their role as solely city defenders somewhat.
42.7% of all statistics are made up on the spot.
If you can't fix it with duck tape you haven't used enough.
I intend to live forever -- so far, so good.

I don't think anyone has mentioned "Amnesia" yet. It's an interesting game that seems like it'd be right up Ross' alley. You play a character who wakes up in a spooky castle. The game explains that it isn't about winning or losing, but experiencing the game.

You have a sanity meter, but you wouldn't know it if you just started playing like I did. Sanity loss sounds like crunching bugs and it happens when you walk around in pitch black or experience something scary. You regain sanity by basking in light sources (like candles, sunlight, or your lantern with its finite oil supply) or by progressing the story.

And there's a nameless shadow trying to kill you that apparently has the power to smash parts of the castle (blocking your path) and make flesh walls.

It's on Steam right now for PCs and Macs. I haven't gotten very far in it, but it's pretty neat. Come join the fun!

Free Tip: Use Tab to bring up your inventory. Otherwise you won't be able to refill your lantern.

I really liked the demo for Amnesia and the style of that kind of game, so I'll probably pick it up to play with friends for Halloween (or if it goes on sale, I'll grab it then)...

Instead of working on my senior art project, I've been watching a lot of video game playthroughs. One of them was Amnesia: Dark Descent.

That shit is Scary. If you like Lovecrafty things and have a tolerance for slow-burn creepiness, I think its worth taking a look at it. I could never play it, though, 'cause I'm a pretty big puss about its particular brand of spookshow.

I've been told of a game today which has potential to suck up a small part of my life; realmofthemadgod.com It's an 8-bit RPG which is sort of like a 1-shot. Pretty fun, imo.

There was so much pew-pewing going on that I couldn't even see myself. Pretty awesome stuff. I also had to laugh when somebody said on global chat "I'm Level 20. What now?"

Truly the dice-chucker's dilemma.

I'm dropping into a gamestop after work to pick up my copy of Demon Souls.

Anyone around here play that game? I hear multiplayer is pretty sweet.

I've played a bit, it's a really tough but fair game...

I'd be down for checking out the multiplayer if I can figure it out and you  are looking for someone to play with...

I'm gonna get a few practice sessions in so that I feel comfortable with the system but after that I am totally down to play multi with everyone else. Just hoping I don't get murdered for my souls too often.

My coworkers are getting annoyed because I won't shut up about this. Can't wait to go home and start playing it.

My wife was mad because I told her we should skip our car payment so i could buy that game...turns out my priorities may be slightly skewed...coversation went somthing like this

Me: Hey, I'm not gonna pay the car payment so I can go buy fallout new vegas.
Her: Oh thats a great idea so that way when they take the car we wont be able to work.
Me: Well at least then I would have time to play.

I fail to see the flaw in your logic.  ;D
