Upgrade the doors. Makes repelling boarders so much easier.

I got boarded by mantises (again); with the blast doors trapping them, I opened their room to vacuum and used my ion blast to lock down their teleporter so they couldn't get back to their ship.

And then I laughed as they suffocated.

Got it as well, I stayed up till 1 playing it, I almost never stay up that late on weeknights.

I always lose when I get boarded.

 The game is damn addictive.

If you can't fix it with duck tape you haven't used enough.

Try and fight in the medbay. Your guys will get healed while the enemies will not. Upgrading the medic station will help out a lot too.

You can vent oxygen on rooms to force enemies out of them, and if you have enough skill at it you can guide them to other places such as the aforementioned medbay.

You can also grab medical nanobots or guardian drone, both Drone parts, which will help a lot.

And remember, just like you can get boarded, you can board enemy crafts as well when you get the teleportation upgrade.

Oh an extra tip. Try and get cloaking ASAP and at least level 3 shields. Goddamn.

I've noticed that with each additional playthrough I've become far less idealistic.

When I first started I was all gungho "Save everyone even if they are bandits." Now I'm like... "What's the risk to reward ratio looking for this one? Settlers and fire eh? Fuck em'"

I went from Captain Picard to space smuggler.

The game is making me jaded and I kinda love it.

I keep getting really far, and then I realize I have the default weapons and can no longer damage people.

I usually have nearly max shields though so they can't really get me either.

If only I could grind in an area longer for more scrap... but the pressure is constantly on to jump to the next sector.

My best run I got to the final stand and couldn't figure out what I was supposed to do so I just waited at base thinking I could fight the mother ship when they go to the spot I was was... Nope lost the game.

I have a full crew that run though. It's amazing how fast things go when you have a crew who double man's almost every station and you can send a floating Engi to repair other vital systems.

Also, THANK YOU for the tips... I no longer worry about being boarded. My blast doors keep the enemy out in the vacuum long enough that by the time I lure them to my sick bay my crew slaughters them...

Now I just have to find a better balance instead of just buying shields and making a b-line for the endgame.

If you can deal with no sensors and the occasional plasma storm stealing half your energy, hang out in nebulae. Each jump to a nebula will slow the advance of the fleet.

But maybe you shouldn't listen to me, I've only made it to sector 7 so far. But the run I'm on now has potential - seven crew in sector 2: four humans, a Zoltan, an Engi, and a Mantis.

I beat the game for the first time (on easy) with an engi ship - I used breach bombs mk II, small bombs, and an anti ship and beam drone - disable the shields first, then let the drones go to work. I only had 3 shields so maxing out shields is a bit of a waste.

I got the engi ship and both a and b patterns for both my ships. I like the engi ship a, b is wired, no sensors 1 crew but 3 drones. The first frig b comes with 4 crew but shitty guns haha. I got to the end but man I died got the boss to 5 hull but he took out mine.

Well I beat FTL on normal finally. I haven't even beet it on easy yet, haha, I got to the end boss like 4-5 times on easy but couldn't get him past phase 1. Today I go in on normal with the engi B ship, and dominated the whole way threw. Had 2 anti ship drones 1, 1 defense drone 1. 2 burst lasers 2, and a small bomb, Used my teleporter and teleported in my 2 hummies into to there wepon battery's after I small bombed them and killed the weapons.
