Anyone know about building computers?
« on: June 20, 2011, 04:32:25 AM »
So one of my projects over the summer is going to be building a gaming computer for myself (hopefully).  I've talked to some people and done a lot of reading online, but I figure the more sources I hear from, the better.  Does anyone have any advice or suggestions?  I'm mainly trying to figure out a case and motherboard now as I've pretty much figured out what I'm thinking about for the other components.  If you have some advice but need more information, go ahead and let me know.

Thanks in advance for any help...

I can give you any information you need since I used to build computers for a couple companies. Just let me know what you need to know an i'll help you out.

Thanks.  I'll probably PM you with some of my questions rather than post them here since I'm not sure how useful it would be for others...

I built my first PC earlier this year. I found this article along with the video (step by step assembly) really helpful.

$1500? criminy, I spent ~750 on building my gaming computer and it plays everything at 1080p with some AA and AF.

Don't really see a need to go over 1000, trying to 'future proof' a gaming computer is kinda pointless IMO, since really all you get is a little bit of extra life at some higher settings, but you can just put the money you saved not buying higher end components in the first place into good upgrades.

1) Never build your computer on the carpeted floor in the living room.

2) Heat Sync's are a bitch if you have big hands.

3) If you use a large video card make sure if fits your case. Otherwise you'll have to get "creative".

If you have any specific questions I found these subreddits to be pretty informative.

Also sales.

And another tutorial from buying components to building the computer.
