Your Local Game Shop Shout-Outs.
« on: August 18, 2011, 06:23:12 PM »
Thought this would make a good topic and useful resource...

My local game shop is Pair-A-Dice Games in sunny Oceanside, California.

Lots of cool games. The staff is generally pretty helpful and I've met 3 really cool guys that I game with on a weekly basis.

What's yours?

Wandering Havoc in Marysville, Washington. I run between 2 and 4 games there in a given week, plus any time spent hanging out playing cards or boardgames. I'm also a lifetime member of the store.

GEEKS Comics in Whittier, California is my store of choice.  I head there every Saturday for D&D (or whatever the game of the week is).

Aside from all the comic books, the store owner is really expanding his RPG stock.  Lots of cool new games that unfortunately I have no money for (Damn you GenCon!).

I know this is supposed to be about shout outs, but the one in Carbondale, IL (Castle Perilous) is very crappy...very over priced, not very friendly, and when Magic events are held, he doesn't hand out the prizes given to him by Wizards of the Coast. If anyone  wants to open a competitive store, please feel free. We gamers down south want a thriving player community.

Zombie Planet, which is also home to Eden Studios, the people who brought you All Flesh Must Be Eaten and the Buffy the Vampire RPG. They stock comics, games, books, gamer-themed snacks, plush Cthulhu dolls... God damn am I blessed.
Also Flights of Fantasy, but they have like a million cats and that's enough to make me never go there.

Speaking of Eden Studios, Ross, I'm still working on that thing we discussed. Things have been... unsettled here recently, I'm going to try to get back on it when I come back from vacation in 8 days.

CYBERSTORM/Millennium Games in Rochester, NY. Good store, good staff, STUPID name. I haven't worked up the nerve to introduce myself or try to get in games there, but I'm sure I will, eventually.

Additional shout-out to my FLGS of Old Times in Richmond, VA: One-Eyed Jacques, where I first encountered ROBORALLY. (I never played to win the race, I played to destroy the other robots.)
I didn't come here to win. I came to make friends.

Had I taken SIUC's fellowship offer for my PhD, I might have taken you up on that suggestion.

Don't let him into your head! He's an academic. Has books in his office and everything, I've seen pictures.

I wish we had a local gameshop...

There's a comic shop that has gaming stuff, but I've lever been there as I've heard largely negative things about it...

Tooting my own horn! Illusive Comics and Games in Santa Clara, Califorina. There are two other gaming shops in my area but i'm not a fan of either of them (bad staff and atmosphere). Game Castle in Santa Clara, CA and Legends Cupertino, CA.

Wouldn't an advanced degree in Bullshit be far more lucrative than a doctorate in Cynicism?  ;)
