Here's a pretty great shoestring budget World War II video that a friend of mine showed me today. It gave me a nerd boner and a wargasm for incorporating Nazis and giant robot spiders.

The filmmaker really deserves kudos for the visual effects.

Yeah, it's pretty impressive. The sawblade one is definitely a special effect though. The way it kicked up sawdust and "sawed" the board clean thru? Nobody could put enough spin on a sawblade to do that. I would totally believe if it had just smashed/cut through instead.

Very nicely done effect though.

I think the tape measure one was just trying over and over again and getting lucky, with a bit of genuine skill.

I don't know the only part of it that I find a bit unbelievable is the fact that it cut so cleanly.  I think someone could get a blade going that fast (looking at the way he held it and moved, he is using both his arm and the weight of the blade itself to generate spin).  I also think it would be really tough to animate something in there as it is very smooth.
