A Novel idea
« on: March 29, 2010, 02:52:00 PM »
I need to get serious about writing and I think writing for a specific audience would help me get motivated. That's where all of you come in. Please vote and let me know which you would prefer you read. If you don't want to read anything I've written, that's cool, just move along to something else. If you want more fantasy in your life, what would you like me to write? Here are my options.

I'm considering a "pay per chapter" type situation or just releasing snippets on this page and then paying to publish it myself if I get enough cash to do so.

Anyway, thanks for bearing with me on this one.
I'm from Alaska. About Fifty miles south of Ankorage there's a little fishing town, maybe you've heard of it, it's called fuck your momma.

I elect to vote for side stories. The adventures of the party are known and they'd have to be changed for a novel to really work. But with all the side junk that exists in the New World having dramatic events happen along side the Water Baron's own adventures shouldn't be difficult.

You might do well with linked short stories, al la Wild Cards novels, though some of those weren't very good.

I voted for side stories because I think you could do a number of short fictions about the New World. Also, Cortez was initially my character, so I kind of want to hold on to him.  8)

(However, Sarkis has a lot more depth than Cortez. Have fun with Sarkis...)

The throw away drunk racist wife beater the Vashik didn't beat up towards the end of heroic tier. How'd he get so racist, drunk, and such a crappy guy to be married to?

I vote for the side stories... especially featuring side NPCs or even just other types of side characters from the world.

Not quite through all the D&D APs yet (it's a damn lot of audio), but I'd love to see a horror story with Bright Eyes. And something with a Pelor priest abusing the fuck out of some "heathens."

A day in the life of a goblin on the hulk, leading up to the destruction of the ship by a band of adventurers.

that story has to end with a goblin floating in the wreckage, grumbling as he lashes together some planks, the start of a new hulk.

I really like the Wizard of Oz idea.  Maybe it's just my partiality to the land of Oz.  On a practical note, it would likely have wider appeal.  Although I am pretty partial to the idea of a day in the life of a goblin or Balgrim...

Are you sure a novel is something you want to create? If your focus is on the 'New World' then why not start off another collaborative project like the previous ransoms? You take the writing reigns and give us a story that hasn't already been told by Ross and the gang. A chance for players to leave a mark on the New World without any idea of the potential consequences.

It seems there are already plenty of ideas fro side-stories, why not turn them into side-quests?
