In search of someone to translate the scroll Professor Stalloid found in Midnight, California, the investigators enter Chinatown and speak to a lawyer there.  Then, they see two tongs at battle until a demon disrupts the fighting.  It is thought something terrible is going on in Chinatown and they decide to find out what.

On March 18, 2018, I ran the fourth session of the Down Darker Trails Campaign.  "Dark Tongs of Chinatown" was based on The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. episode “And Baby Makes Three” as well as Big Trouble in Little China.  It's the fifth game of the Catastrophe Engine Campaign.

Role playing journals of the game session are here:

It's time for one last return of the Lovecraft Country Cousins.  Created by Oscar Rios for his scenarios "Christmas in Kingsport" and "Halloween in Dunwich," I put together a third scenario for the children entitled "Valentine's in Innsmouth" as the player who played Alice wanted to explore her history.  In this case, Alice Sanders gets the cousins together for a foray into her old hometown, still under martial law and government watch since the raid of February 1928 on Innsmouth.  But Alice needs to find her Aunt Margie, who she thinks is still there.

On March 25, I ran this last original scenario of the six cousins from across Massachusetts, all of them ready to help their cousin Alice with what might be the most important event in her young life.

The role-playing journals of the game session are here:

It's Springtime in San Francisco with many loose ends to tie up and, once that's done, it's time to head back for Midnight and then east to Colorado, where a town might be in danger.

On April 1, 2018, I continued the Call of Cthulhu Down Darker Trails campaign "The Catastrophe Engine" with the original "Spring in San Francisco" notes and the Deadlands Dime Novel Scenario “Worms!” by John Goff.

When the investigators head east into the wilderness from Santaquin, Utah, they didn't expect to find a fog-shrouded valley filled with impossible, prehistoric beasts.

On April 8, I continued the Call of Cthulhu Down Darker Trails campaign "The Catastrophe Engine" with the original scenario "The Last Valley.

As the investigators head east through Colorado, they must seek shelter in a decrepit house during a terrible storm.  The servant is a hunchback and the master of the house is nowhere to be found.  Is something sinister going on?

On April 15, the Call of Cthulhu Down Darker Trails campaign "The Catastrophe Engine" continued with the Chill scenario "The House on the Hill" from Evenings of Terror with Elvira.

The investigators have finally arrived at Devil's Gulch, Colorado, where all their trails seem to be leading.  The town is a beehive of activity with a new store coming in, a new courthouse to be built, and everyone expecting a great boom in business soon.  However, not everything is as it seems and something is very wrong in Devil's Gulch.

On April 22, the Call of Cthulhu Down Darker Trails "Catastrophe Engine" campaign continued with the original scenario "The Doom That Came to Devil's Gulch" which made full use of the BRP product "Devil's Gulch" by Troy Wilhelmson.  The game was to serve as a sort of season finale with the end of the semester and to help wrap up one investigator's backstory as her player might be leaving.

The role-playing journals of the 8-hour session are here:

I ran a Call of Cthulhu Game at Appalachian State University NerdCon on April 28, 2018.  "Terror Over Tokyo 4: The Demon Procedure" took place during the Doolittle Raid on Tokyo in April 1942. The B-25 Bomber that is part of the raid crashes on an island off the coast of China after the bombing of Kobe and find an abandoned Unit 731 base.  Can they escape the Island of Demons?

With the summer comes various one-shots in other eras.

This time, a terrible black wolf is terrorizing the village of Wroxeter, England, in the Dark Ages year Anno Domini 1000 in "The Dragon and the Wolf" by John W. Thompson from The Bride of Halloween Horror monograph.  The scenario was played on May 20.

It is the Sengoku Period in ancient Japan (1520 AD) and three ronin come to the village of Kohai-Mura, where all is not well.  Something is entering the village at night and stealing away the villagers.  This time we played "The Iron-Banded Box" from Strange Aeons II.

As the new semester begins, we return, once again, to the Down Darker Trails campaign: The Catastrophe Engine.

Professor Marion Terwilliger has been kidnapped and it seems to have something to do with the mysterious Crescent that was found some months ago and then lost again.  Can the investigators find the inventor in central California?  Why was he kidnapped.

On September 2, 2018, the Down Darker Trails campaign continued the original scenario "The Scorched Secret or The Abduction of Professor Marion Terwilliger."  The role playing journal of the game session is here:

The Call of Cthulhu Down Darker Trails Catastrophe Engine Campaign continues.

The investigators have been told they can get answers in the town of Gravity Falls, Oregon.  After dealing with some of their own projects, they set forth for the small town, traveling first to Winnemucca, Nevada, and then overland.  But in the village of Quiet Gap in northern Nevada, they find something very disturbing.

On September 16, 2018, the Down Darker Trails Catastrophe Engine campaign continued with the "The Beast Under the Bed" adapted from the scenario by Michael C. LaBossiere from Challenge Magazine #77.  The role playing journal of the session is here:

The Call of Cthulhu Down Darker Trails Catastrophe Engine Campaign continues.

The investigators finally reach Gravity Falls, Oregon, to meet with Dr. Mordin.  First they must resolve the mystery of the missing $7,000 from Quiet Gap, Nevada.  Then, they are in for the ride of their lives as the people Mordin is sending them to see are not quite in the same time.

On September 30, the Down Darker Trails Catastrophe Engine campaign continued with the original scenario "The Causal Enigma" or "Strange Times in Gravity Falls."  The role playing journals of the scenario are here:

The Call of Cthulhu Down Darker Trails Catastrophe Engine Campaign continues.

Having learned the whereabouts of Jack Parker, the investigators head to southwestern Colorado, where he seems to be visiting the locations of his previous crimes for some reason.  Between the towns of Canyon City and South Arkansas, they must spend a night in the apparently abandoned Inn of the Smiling Spirit.  Will they survive Through the Night?

On October 28, the campaign continued with an older Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd Edition scenario "Through the Night" by Leonard Wilson from Dungeon Adventures #29 with the help of "The Big Damn Book of Monsters."
