I managed to get into the Closed Beta (not hard just a limited number of slots were released today) for Heroes Of Neverwinter

It is awesome. Nice little 4e simulation gets me a tactical combat fix.
42.7% of all statistics are made up on the spot.
If you can't fix it with duck tape you haven't used enough.

Finished Mass Effect. You know, four years late. Started Mass Effect 2. Interrupted because I decided that we'd jam all our stuff into boxes and haul it down the road a ways.
So basically I'm playing Tetris IRL. Or possibly Arkanoid.
I didn't come here to win. I came to make friends.

It's funny because I just finished Mass Effect today as well.  I also received Starcraft II today, so I will be playing more of that in the next few weeks...

Most of the way through Catherine. The game is forcing me to keep playing it by threatening to kill characters that I like. Everybody's got a seriously screwed up story under the surface.

How's the gameplay vs story pay off?

Like, is the story interesting/gripping enough to make up for the punishingly difficult. . .box pushing/pulling? I'm tempted to get it, but unless the story is superb, the gameplay will keep me from enjoying it.

The story is good if you enjoy the approach. It can be frustrating to watch the main character's choices when things seem so easy to fix from your perspective, which is what helps create drama. Like most Altus games I enjoy the characters and their interactions most. Story's a high C or low B in quality (I'm not done with the game so it might get better or worse at the end) so if you want something exceptional, give this a pass. I'm renting it.

Ok so Deus Ex: Human Revolution, first impressions:

Aesthetic: Gold and Black is a major theme. Altogether, it's a beautiful, stylish game. Although it isn't quite as pretty as say, Crysis 2, it's still got a good look.

Gameplay: Smooth as butter, viciously smart AI who are quick to flank, seek cover, chuck grenades, and will *kill your ass dead*. Jensen is *not* a bulletsponge, and dies in a few hits.

at least I think he does even on the other difficulties, as I am playing on the hardest one. also with the 'no kills, no alarms set off' stipulations, which renders this game HARD AS BALLS.

The level of detail in this is amazing. Most of the stuff you could easily just walk right by, but there's hundreds of pages worth of flavor text and other goodies waiting to be read by patient/explorative players. It's a gold-mine, and I really wish other companies would do this.

HEY BIOWARE I MEAN YOU OK, HAVE YOUR MASS EFFECT TEAM SIT DOWN AND PLAY THIS KTHNX

Having just finished the first boss fight. . .I don't see why people are complaining about them. I have a purely nonlethal character, and I was able to take him down without any real issue. . .

All in all, excellent game, buy immediately.

I'm thinking about getting Prototype.

Thoughts?

It's really fun, it just gets repetitive as a lot of the content is repeating missions (a la Assassin's Creed 1). The story is very Delta Green, so if you like the genre of Black Operations and crazy government conspiracies then you'll probably enjoy it.

Also helicopter blades gib pedestrians.

Also you can kill and devour Adam Scott Glancy to make him part of you. So, there's that. I really enjoy Prototype, regardless of its faults. It's got that fun replay value of making up your own stories while wandering around New York. Personally I liked to see if I could get civilians to skip when I throw then across the pavement. Results where inconclusive.
