: GenCon Preparations
: Tadanori Oyama March 22, 2010, 04:45:05 PM
It's a little early for this topic but since registration is open, housing is filling up, and event registration is only a few weeks off, I figured this would be a good time to get some GenCon thread action going.

This year is going to be my first GenCon and I've gotten the rough details done. I have a badge purchased (though I don't actually have it in my hand yet), a room reserved off site, travel to and from the city arranged, and at least a general idea of the major events ahead of me.

So, to put it as openly as possible, what is everybody's GenCon plan for this year?

Ross plans to found a new nation and support the American lifestyle. Do we have a one up?
: Re: GenCon Preparations
: Tadanori Oyama March 23, 2010, 11:48:57 AM
So I plan to take it "easy" my first time around and keep most of my schedule free to wander around and see all the crazy shit that's out there. I'll probably only sign up for one game a day to keep the schedule light and then try to keep some generic tickets on hand in case I get the chance to slip into an opening, or just hang around the library and see what happens.

Gotta play in at least one Ross Payton game, just to see what all the fuss is about. At least one Call of Cthulhu game and a One Roll Engine game (both of which I have never gotten the chance to be a player in).

I want to hunt down some of my favorite designers and writers, maybe get them to sign something. James Wyatt, Greg Stolze, Scott Glancy, the staff at Wildfire, see if I can find Matt Vancil somewhere.

I want to run a game, but I'm not sure if it's a great idea to do so my first year out.
: Re: GenCon Preparations
: ArtfulShrapnel March 23, 2010, 01:09:57 PM
I'm in the same boat as you, Tad. There's also the issue of Violet coming along with me. We want to make sure we get in on the same games, because we so rarely get to game together. (I'm usually the GM)

I'd love the idea of running a game, but I feel like I want to actually play in a con game first.

Unfortunately I still need to sort out a place to stay at the con. :( I have a ticket already, but until I find a place to crash within walking distance, I'm SOL. I don't know anyone in town, and you can't rent a car until age 25(!) now. I'd also rather not pay thru the nose for a rental and parking...

Hopefully that will get sorted in the next couple weeks, then me and Violet can sign up for all of Ross's games together. (Joking... probably just most of them.)
: Re: GenCon Preparations
: clockworkjoe March 23, 2010, 01:40:11 PM
You can always run games unofficially like I did with Mysteries of Mesoamerica.

I recommend planning ahead of time to figure out what things you must do and secondary goals if you find you have some spare time. Try to shoot for some diversity - some panels, workshops, seminars, games, demos, social events etc.
: Re: GenCon Preparations
: clockworkjoe March 23, 2010, 01:41:30 PM
oh and I'll probably run a RPPR fan game unofficially at least once. No promises but even if you guys cant get into my official games, I'll try to make sure you can play at least once.
: Re: GenCon Preparations
: Tadanori Oyama March 23, 2010, 02:21:27 PM
Unofficial is likely to be my stock in trade for this particular event.

Getting around isn't as hard as you'd think, based on the research I've done. Off site hotels are cheaper and most offer ways to get to the Con. GenCon isn't the only thing that happens at the convention center so alot of the airport hotels have shuttle service (the one I'm used does, I made sure to check on it) that'll take you downtown. There's also the "greenline" express bus that leaves from the airport and hits all the big hotels downtown so you can use that as well. It's $7 to ride it but that's 1/4 what a cab normally costs.

I've been hanging around the GenCon forums to get advise, and there is alot of advise to get.

Oh, cool. Which hotel are you using? Might try and get a room at the same place so I have someone to hang with after the con.
: Re: GenCon Preparations
: Tadanori Oyama March 24, 2010, 11:13:13 AM
Sleep Inn West, at the airport. I'm trying to get them to give me the shuttle schedule but the lady answering the phone says that they don't have the actual schedule until the week before the event. Still, if they normally have a schedule than they normally have a shuttle, so still a win for me.

I actually went with the place because it's the cheapest room price I saw.
: Re: GenCon Preparations
: ArtfulShrapnel March 24, 2010, 11:43:01 AM
Sounds like a plan to me. I'll try and get a room there myself. At least then if there's trouble with shuttle we can chip in together on cab/car/whatever. or just run some unofficial games at OUR hotel.

We don't need no stinking con! The party will come to US.  ;D
: Re: GenCon Preparations
: Tadanori Oyama March 24, 2010, 11:46:39 AM
Sweet. I don't think we'll have much trouble luring the party to our hotel given how many people are gonna be in town for GenCon. Plenty of cool stuff to do in all the hotels.

Which reminds me: Hey Ross, have you ever checked out "The Ram"? There's people on the GenCon forums who won't shut up about the place. Supposed to be very pro-gamer.

Have you looked into renting a car for the few days that you'll be there? Well, never mind, the cheapest price that Orbitz lists for GenCon week is 20/day. It's still cheaper to take the shuttle back and forth.

I don't drive. I've never liked to drive and I don't have a license. I walk, bus, bike, or bum rides when I need to get around, hince my intense interest in finding a hotel with a shuttle service (though somebody to slip cab fair with isn't a bad back-up plan).

I do. I'm on the I-5 corridor in Washington state where we have lots of small cities packed together with alot of people going to Seattle for work everyday. We've got three different local bus systems. Unfortunitally my city bus system is a piece of crap these days so I'm leaning on the county's for most of my needs.

also you need to be 25 to rent a car

we'll figure something out in regards to transit - Tom and I may have some people dropping on us so we it's possible we can fit a few people in our room

I haven't been to the Ram mainly because I wanted to avoid things that are too popular - after a certain point you get the worst nerds of all - attention craving (guy) nerds in utili-klits getting drunk and flashing people and screaming too much.

That's what those cards Al Gore keeps sending me say but he puts little hearts over the "i"s.

Only reason I was interested in the Ram was if the food was great but it sounds like it's more the "atomsphere" of the place than anything else. I'll stick with whatever has smaller crowds or with my own food, which I plan to bring alot of.

I likewise was planning to avoid some of the larger events this year, the stuff like True Dungeon. Probably save those for later when I know the underlying structure better.

I've heard that the True Dungeon should be avoided indefinitely. I have friends who say they would have to be paid to run through it again. Not sure what anyone else's experiences have been but I've heard the same thing from no less than a dozen people.
: Re: GenCon Preparations
: Tadanori Oyama March 24, 2010, 05:02:09 PM
Gamers say that about anything they don't like. True Dungeon has been running for a long time and, apparently, sells extremely well every year so a majority of people must enjoy it.

I won't know if it isn't really for me until I either try it or get to see it close up, so I intend to see it close up this year and try it another time.
: Re: GenCon Preparations
: clockworkjoe March 24, 2010, 05:53:22 PM
Again, I tend to avoid the uber popular events - diminishing returns and all that

I would recommend the Goodman DCC tournament - I haven't had a chance to play it but that is something I would love to try out
: Re: GenCon Preparations
: Tadanori Oyama March 24, 2010, 06:05:58 PM
I was most interested in the large scale but personal events, like the "paint and take" minitures thing and the gaming library (I know that's not an event perse but it sounds like fun). Those sound like fun but what I really want to do is just check the place out. Hit panels, wander the halls, go through the underground tubes and follow them back into the hotels, try and crash into other people's pick up games or grab some space a start one of my own, all that crazy crap.

I just want to have a rough plan so I don't get rolled under and crushed by the sheer size of GenCon, which I've heard is one of the big threats.
: Re: GenCon Preparations
: ristarr March 24, 2010, 08:04:14 PM
It will be my first time there also.  I am going to try to preregister for a bunch of games that I want to play in.  How quick do the games fill up once they get posted?  Is it going to be a matter of seconds, minutes or days for the good ones?  I am assuming that I will need to be in concert ticket mode when they open up.

That's a good idea - some shit fills up insanely quick. True Dungeon does. DCC tourney does. Not sure what else.
: Re: GenCon Preparations

Accordng the vets on the GenCon forums CoC games tend to fill up fairly quickly, as do any games run by developers or that have a history of being run. There's a big list on the forum FAQ. I plan to keep away from major stuff and stick with lessers, unless I get the chance to leap into a game with some of the big boys.

Speaking of which: Ross, any idea what Scott Glancy has in store for you guys this year? Any chance we'll be hearing about some more souls in an armored Siberian train?

Well, I've heard specific reasons as to why they didn't like it. But you're right, why not experience it for yourself?

Ross' suggestion of the DCC Tournament is a good one, I participated in 2008 and it was a blast.

The DCC doesn't ring a bell, what's that about? I mean I'm gonna search the forums and Google is as soon as I post this so I'll probably know but I want to hear from somebody who's done it too.

Also, on the subject of unofficial games, I want to try running my CoC scenario again now that I've given it the alpha test acid wash.

Excellent!  Do you know which parts of Road Trip you will be running?  I played Sucrose at dragoncon and listened to pastoral manor, so would feel bad playing in them.  ( Ok, not so bad )
Looks like arc dream has 22 games scheduled.  2 other Monsters games ( "Go GO Monster Force Zeta" and "Alien Agents" ), 2 different Kerberos club games and the rest are Godlike and Wild Talents ( one about an orbital elevator and another about a group of super repo man that are going to repossess stuff from a reformed supervillian behind on his payments ).

About to check out the CoC games now.

With respect to your regular-podcast discussions about Tom running horror/investigation games (Divine Fire 1 and 2, B12, at least one other game) as opposed to his established comfort-zone action genre, I'd say offering to run CoC con games with strangers is a pretty big step.

Anyhow.  Can you tell us how many scenarios are in Road Trip?  Pastoral Manor, Sucrose Park, and Oz have APs; but in the Oz one you talk about a Power-Rangers-esque one in LA (Monster Force Zeta maybe?) and one in the Everglades which you call "Where the Wild Things Were."
: Re: GenCon Preparations
: clockworkjoe April 06, 2010, 12:14:23 AM
6 major locations in road trip

I haven't decided which ones I will run - probably the Oz one at least because that's a very variable one and I want to see how people respond to it.
: Re: GenCon Preparations

I've got a few games ready. Nothing through the official system though. Anybody want to try their hand at Scion, World of Darkness: Inferno (demons sub-game, one of my favorites), and possibly a Candlewick game?
: Re: GenCon Preparations
: ArtfulShrapnel April 06, 2010, 02:57:09 PM
So, being a GenCon noob, I have a question. The "experience level required" thing. Is that by system, or for RPGs in general?

For example... I am very familiar with dozens of systems, and have GM'd in at least 15. I game at least weekly and change systems like every month. I've heard CoC played, and read through the book, but I've never played or run the actual system. I can honestly say I'd be comfortable running a scenario with a few hours' notice. Am I safe to sign up for an "Expert" game of CoC?

Also, what are the other RPPR-ites signing up for? I'm looking at one of the Dresden Files games (run in FATE, not out yet), one of Ross's Monsters games, Something Ctulhu, and probably a WoD game of some kind.
: Re: GenCon Preparations
: Tadanori Oyama April 06, 2010, 03:00:05 PM
A Ross Monsters game, some CoC if I can get it, and definitally something interested in nWoD. I'm also planning to get into a CthulhuTech game with the Wildfire guys if their running it themselves.
: Re: GenCon Preparations
: ristarr April 06, 2010, 03:53:54 PM
I am interested in a lot of the same.  Ross' s monster, some CoC ( hopefully incident on bell island ), the kerboros club games, a wild talents or two ( elevator and repomen ), dread, dresden, dogs in the vineyard, paranoia ( wow that is a lot ).  Would love to find some delta green.

I have the same questions about the experience for CoC.  I am in a similar boat.
: Re: GenCon Preparations
: Kroack April 06, 2010, 04:59:43 PM
CoC is not really something it takes a lot to be an expert at.

roll under number = success

roll over number = failure

A 6 year old can be an expert without even playing it.

So I wouldn't worry about experience level, at least for CoC.

: Re: GenCon Preparations
: ristarr April 06, 2010, 05:10:04 PM
Don't you have to be very good at screaming also?  And crying?  and drooling?  just generally acting psychotic?  Maybe that is what they mean by expert level.
: Re: GenCon Preparations
: clockworkjoe April 06, 2010, 05:15:57 PM
they probably want players who 'get' Call of Cthulhu i.e. no D&D loot the bodies and cast magic spells type of mentality and at least a passing familiarity with the mythos and how to conduct a mystery game

you might try to track down who is running the game and ask them

I just noticed that both Divine Fire and Incident on Bell Island are at the same time ( Thu 1-5 )!  How is this possible???

1) Tom is Tom. Do not question.
2) Tom has a clone.
3) Maybe somebody else is running one of the events.
4) It's an Alpha List so things aren't 100% right.
5) A list always needs at least five points.

I just got an email from Tom.  It is a mistake and he is trying to correct it.  They should be a two different times.  I am still going to sign up for Bell Island and hope it is at that time period.

I got most of what I wanted.  Missed out on the Dresden Files and a Trail of Cthulhu that sounded cool.  Got a Road Trip ( Saturday ) and Tom's Bell Island on Thursday ( So Tom, move Divine Fire please! ).  Some CoC, Kerberos, Grim War, DRYH, Dread and the free National Security Decision Making Game Wednesday night ( I think there are still 40+ tickets available! ).
: Re: GenCon Preparations
: ArtfulShrapnel April 11, 2010, 04:48:37 PM
I missed out on basically everything I was interested in. I thought the registration was opening at noon and spent two hours trying to sign up for stuff. Around 2pm I was up and away from my screen for like 10 minutes. When I got back, most of the stuff I was watching had sold out. :( Missed out on Dresden Files, Trail of Cthulhu, the Wild Talents game and WoD game that we were most interested in, the savage worlds stuff....

Fuck you RUBI. You are the new BBEG.

I did get one ticket to Road Trip on Saturday (win) but I couldn't get one for Violet (fail). Likely will still go, if only so I can be internet famous when Ross posts the AP. :)

Also playing some Godlike (the far shore), WoD (Of Science and Steel), and Geist (The Baron's Daughter)

Looks like I'll need to plan on running some games. Anyone up for Nemesis? I've got a scenario I've been working on called "Death and Taxis" that might make for a fun con game.

EDIT: I guess the 2pm start time was planned? It would have been nice if that information had been... I dunno... on the registration info page?

I will let violet play - just get some generic tickets

I think it was set to 5 players max and I've run for 7 players before soo that won't be a problem

oh yeah: if a game you really want to try out gets filled up, get some generic tickets and check it out right before it starts - if a registered player is a no show then you can usually join in as a player. I know several Arc Dream games last year had some no shows - including one of my games  :'(

I just noticed a Road trip ( RPG1010411 ) ticket showed up as available.  I think a lot of people got double tickets with all the reposting.

There is also a CoC western ticket that was originally filled up   RPG1011285 ( CoC  Fastest Tentacle in the West )

: Re: GenCon Preparations
: Tadanori Oyama April 12, 2010, 12:10:25 PM
I managed to snag what I wanted (and some stuff I didn't expect) except for a Road Trip official ticket so I'll be wandering around the table whenever Ross is about to get started with a few genertic tickets.

Got into two of the three scenarios being done by Wildfire with C-Tech (Tager game and Arcane Underground game, sweet). Also booked space in a few lectures (including "what's up with wildfire") and one of the foam weapon workshops, which looked like fun.

Looks like I'll need to plan on running some games. Anyone up for Nemesis? I've got a scenario I've been working on called "Death and Taxis" that might make for a fun con game.

I'll play. I'm up for anything unofficial that forum members want to run. Got several of my own games I'm eager to give a shot.

Since Ross is a jackass and won't do it. Will someone run an unofficial playtest of Wasponia (in whatever form it is in, it'll change before August)? ::)
: Re: GenCon Preparations
: Tadanori Oyama April 12, 2010, 01:16:41 PM
I'll do it, provided some people will play it. I'll need an "official" final version by the end of July. Luckily the game doesn't really require a scenario in its current form, I just need to prepare visual describtions of places, people, and events.
: Re: GenCon Preparations

Found an interesting event that I didn't even think about while browsing the Isle of Misfit Events.

ZED1016206      Amtgard Foam Fight Club      Amtgard      08/04/2010 09:00:00 PM $0.00

It's FREE. You get to hit people with FOAM. I plan for this to be my "stretch out after a long plane ride and a hard day of gaming" event. Other people from RPPR should sign up and take this shit over. Me and Violet will both be attending.
: Re: GenCon Preparations
: Tadanori Oyama April 12, 2010, 01:36:53 PM
Free, foam, and hit are all buzz words for me. I'll look it up and be there (assuming it doesn't conflict with scheduled games).
: Re: GenCon Preparations
: ArtfulShrapnel April 12, 2010, 05:19:03 PM
It occurs to me that GenCon has that nifty "friends" system setup. Ostensibly it is so that people can buy each other tickets, but it also allows us to view each others' schedules. I'd be willing to share my email with anyone on this thread who wants to hang out during the con.

I just saw an open ticket for the Wild Talents: Grim War Sat@4 ( RPG1010476 ).

We should try and schedule some sort of meetup at the con.  Maybe something outside of the normal gaming hours for some drinks?

Like an idiot, I scheduled games for pretty much each slot thinking I can just not go if I want some time off.  But I don't see any that I don't want to play in.
: Re: GenCon Preparations
: Tadanori Oyama April 12, 2010, 08:38:02 PM
Where do you want to meet up? I don't know any good places to get a drink in the convention area. If any of us are in close hotels, like all at airport hotels for example, than finding a common area would be pretty damn easy.

Or we could just pick a resturant that's less popular in the convention area and agree on a time to meet there. I only have like eight things scheduled over the whole four days, and I plan to be there on Wednesday before things get really rolling.

I'll google up a map with some pick spots.

: Re: GenCon Preparations
: ristarr April 12, 2010, 09:07:23 PM
I haven't been before, so I don't know any good spots.  Some of us Atlanta locals tried to get together at DragonCon last year at the bar in the Marriott.  It was very difficult finding people in a packed bar that you didn't know.  And using some sort of "unusual" hat or clothing doesn't go over that well in a crowd of gamers and geeks.  Wearing Jayne's hat from Firefly was not as distinctive as it normally would be!

Tad and Artful, I sent you gencon friend requests.  I remember having to logout before being able to accept requests.  It was not intuitive at all.

So we need something slightly unusual... but I don't want to look like a moron wandering around with a giant novelty flower or something. We might accidently start a trend and it'll be in the next crappy teen movie to come along.

How about an RPPR button or something? We can all get the dragon with orphan bane shirts. Or join team Screaming Pelican.

Divine Fire/Bell Island are already sold out! I should've known. Well, I love CoC so it's a given that I'm going to buy some generics.

I'd be on board for an RPPR meetup. It might be a good idea to set a time and meet in a nearby hotel lobby or something, then head out someplace else from there.

Meet me outside the assigned room ten minutes before the game starts. We'll see to it that two or three of the "official" players are "late" and then offer to fill the openings.

Violet just did some research on that for her thesis show. I think she found a place where you could get 50 identical ones printed for about $25. You could write her and see where it was (I can't recall right now)
: Re: GenCon Preparations
: ristarr April 15, 2010, 06:34:00 PM
I had some buttons made from a company on the net before and they turned out fine.  Unfortunately, I don't remember the name.  There are several places.  You just upload your pic and pick the options.  It was a very easy process.  http://www.purebuttons.com is the #1 google hit and for 1 1/4" they are $25 for 100, $19 for 50 and full color.  I am not to sure on the size needed, kinda need to look at the template and the design together, but the 1 3/4" are only $28 for 100, so there is not that much difference in price.  I don't know anything about the company though.

So don't let any "accidents" happen to those wearing the button ...

But with a name that includes "bar and grill" who really knows?

Yeah, I'm at the Sleep Inn near the airport. I think someone else was staying there, so I'll have company and someone to split a cab with if late night travel comes up.

My girlfriend will also be coming along, she's hoping to find an ad-hoc MAOCT game at some point.

The convention has freebie bade holders that work pretty well as long as you're not too rough with them (mine disintegrated on the third day of the con). They do sell better ones for around $10, I think.

I don't know some of these extras. I've got a Don't Rest Your Head character but not one from the one game I've hear. I got a CoC character from a 90s game. Also have two of Arje's powers and one of Dan's items. Crown Jewel of the collection? B.A. Fucking Baracus! The only 90s game I've heard from RPPR was the End of the World game from way back. Character's an Engineer, Zeke Patton. Only skill check he's got is in Law, which he's got at base.

If we are still needing a location to meet up, might I suggest the lobby of the Embassy Suites? It's right across the street from the Hyatt Regency and is also the location of a majority of the indy games being played after hours.  I remember that's were Ross, Tom and I did Ross' Call of Cthulu game with the Arc Dream crew last year.

That'd be awesome for me since the game I'll be in right before is at the Suites. I'm be able to just roll down the hall.

Maybe is better than no. Interested in demonically possessed American soliders; demi-gods chasing debunked Russian myths; or Delta Green agents infiltrating a private medical facility as patients?

I should be free after 8 Saturday night.  I have a Grim War game starting at 4.

Shit Tad, I responded to the wrong thread. I won't be able to be at GenCon this year. I thought you were talking about online gaming / Skype.

I was a little surprised at the idea of you going to GenCon, given you just had a kid, like, last week. Though if I get my phyiscal props turned into digital ones than Skyping the games might be fun too.

I am going to get Dark Sun, MY BOOK, and the laundry RPG if its available.

Meet Up idea: We meet at the embassy suites lobby but then move somewhere quieter after the initial meet because that place is noisy as shit. We can get some food and then I could run one of two scenarios depending on the number of people who show up:

Option A: A DG scenario that is very lethal :D

Option B: Basically this

All assassins are PCs :D

That's right - Team death match

: Re: GenCon Preparations
: ristarr August 01, 2010, 01:02:58 AM
My top picks are the same as Ross.  Road Trip, Dark Sun ( may wait for it though and get it at home ), Laundry, Dread House, Dogs in the Vineyard ( yeah, I know I am late on this ), some really precise dice, cheap minis, random CoC stuff that strikes my fancy and Eclipse Phase.  Ugh, that is a lot of stuff.  They always say don't go to the grocery store hungry or you buy too much stuff.
: Re: GenCon Preparations
: Tadanori Oyama August 01, 2010, 01:17:18 PM
I vote assassins, if we get to. I'd love to play an insult flinging brute killer.

Dark Sun, White Wolf's new Mage and Vampire books (if the Vampire one is off the presses), Road Trip, original MAOCT (I only have the PBF right now), and basically anything else I can lay my greedy hands on. I'm probably gonna hit the indy game section hard looking for speciality systems and fluff books. And gadgets. I fucking love gadgets. Better than even odds by the time we do the meet up I have something in my bag which makes use of magets.

: Setherick August 01, 2010, 01:23:22 PM
I wish I could be there to play in the assassins game because it reminds me a lot of the game Ross ran based on Smokin' Aces, which ended up being my farewell game when we left Springfield. It, of course, was not recorded.

It would be hard to top "I'm going to peel your skin off and use it as a condom and fuck your mother".  The bar is set pretty high.  But it looks like fun.  I mean the assassins game, not the other stuff.

I forgot I found some other stuff to get at Gencon.  Fiasco, Hell 4 Leather, Swords without master.  And I am going to look at the boardgame It's Complicated to see if it would work for non-gamers.

Can you guys give this the old college try? I haven't had a chance to game test it after writing it up earlier this year: Wasponia (http://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B906Mpzpzd7-NmRlOWI1Y2MtNjY2NC00MGNmLTg2MDctNWEyOTk4YTAyNTVl&sort=name&layout=list&num=50) (URL to a PDF)

I haven't done anything with the PDF except convert the old doc file. I'll edit it more once it's tested a bit.

You'll probably have to deal with Tom on that one. He will run down anyone who gets in his way to Indiana.

I signed up for a foam fighting tournament hosted by Edhellen at 4pm on Thursday. It's supposed to run for 2 hours. If I don't get eliminated right away/end up being there until around 6, is there someone I can call or someplace else I can meet the group? I'm assuming that the RPPR crew will have moved on from Embassy Suites by then and I'd love to get in on the DG/Assassins game.
: Re: GenCon Preparations

Well as a suggestion, if any RRPR fans going to the meet up with us would like to PM me their cell numbers I can send out a mass text letting you know when we are meeting at the Embassy Suites/where we will got to afterwards.

Edit:  Okay, I have two people down for the text reminder.  If anybody else would like to have it just remember to PM before Thursday morning. I'll have my iphone on me so I should be able to do last minute additions to the list.

If you have an ink jet printer, sometimes they flip out if they don't have the right type of cartridges.

Been town since this morning. Woke up way too early this morning to catch the flight. And then walked around all day in the freaking hot heat ( and I am from Hotlanta ). I think I am going to bed early since I have an 8 AM don't rest your head game. Looking forward to tomorrow night!  See y'all then.

Well, that was fucking awesome. Great to see Ross, Tom, and all the other RPPR fans. Even got to see Jason for an hour or so. I am definitally going to have to try and track them down again before GenCon is over. Ross runs a good game, even with totally run away crowd of over fed, up too late gamers.

Big thanks again to Ross for entertaining us at Gen Con. Operation Endgame was funny and enjoyable even if I got taken out early. Aaron of all people was the one to initiate the PvP. I was proud. Afterward, Ross ran a brutal Delta Green scenario (seriously, ask him about Artifact Zero sometime and he'll explain) for some of us afterward was also a good time.

I didn't end up having the funds to BUY ROSS' BOOK but I did get the chance to talk with Scott Glancy and get a half-priced copy of the Delta Green core book, which rocked.

Also I'm gonna plug the Jenga-based horror game Dread for anyone who doesn't know about it. I played in a session of it on Saturday night and it was amazing. There were six players and we all got really into our characters/the scenario. Hell, I'd be willing to run one for next year's Gen Con if there's another RPPR meetup.

Agreed!  The RPPR crew was great at Gencon.  After a successful Road Trip, I ended up with a 50% survival rate in their games.  It was great to meet and game with everyone.

I agree here also.  Dread is a lot of fun for players and GMs alike.  It is great to see the fear in the player's eyes as they approach an already teetering tower.  The suspense really gets amped up.
I used the jenga tower mechanic in a recent 4e game to simulate how long it was going to take for an airship the characters were riding in to blow up.  They ended knocking down the tower way too early though.  But it helped their ultimate survival.

I know I touched Ross. Pretty sure I made skin contact with Aaron and maybe Jason. Looking back I don't know if I did with Tom, which is kind of weird since I sat next to him for the better part of an hour. I wish I had though, Tom is an entertaining gentleman. And it turns out Aaron is also enjoyable company. I only saw Jason for like an hour, during the Operation game.

In which, by the way, a certain artist felt I needed to die!

Tad, have you made it home yet?  You had a mighty long drive ahead of you.

We drove like hell and I took of Sunday morning since I didn't have anything else planned to do. Two 19 hours drive sessions wit a few hours sleep between and I'm home. Got in late last night. I remember sitting in a Perkins at the Iowa/Wisconsin border looking at the map of how far we'd come after the first 15 hours and comparing that to the distances from Indianapolis to Springfield or Atlanta. I believe the words "lucky fuckers" came up more than once.

Ross was the GM Kroack. This was the first (maybe now annual) RPPR Fan Meet Up so Ross ran same stuff after we'd talked and gotten dinner. We had a massive game (eight players) made up for RPPR "crew" and RPPR fans. Then, since everything went crazy so fast, Ross ran a second game which only the RPPR fans played in (except for Shrapnel and spouse who had to take off). So that was me, Murph, ristarr, and AmishNinja. The three of them where Delta Green agents and was the friendly. I kept eating egg salad and throwing up. Out of character I think we figured out what the "problem" was pretty damn fast but having no idea what was causing it or how to was spread or what the fuck to do about it, the game spiraled into this insane cluster fuck as we ran around trying not to die (which we failed at, across the board).

Less said the better, since the game was recorded and might somebody see the light of day (on the internet) in the event Ross has to throw more fodder into the next ransom reward pile. Personally I can't wait since I'm in love with the sound of my own voice. My only regrete is that I didn't make people say my name on the recording more.

I might be looking for roommates, Kroack, assuming you can get a pass and get to the city. I really want to stay at the Hyatt next year. I have at least one dude lined up to help share some of the cost already but he isn't extremely dependable.
