The players are maladjusted orphans that vandalized a traveling exhibit on the Surya.  As punishment, they are placed with foster parents in Surya morphs and must work with the Surya to make amends. There they meet Willy, a young Surya whale who left his family to become a Surya, but has now realized that being a Surya is pretty fucking stupid. Sensing kinship, the players and Willy form a bond and, with the help of kindly Firewall sentinel Rae Lindley, develop a plan to help Willy escape and find his family. However, greedy Surya leader Dial soon catches wind of the plot, and will relentlessly defend the Surya status quo.  Once a Surya, always a Surya. . . even if that means dying and being "reborn" as a Surya.

Doing research for writing the official conversion guidelines for D6xD6, I found that the Star Trek RPG by Decipher is available for free here:

I have no idea if the game itself is any good, but that is a lot of product for Trek lovers.

Broad City is funny.  Drunk History is almost perfect.

Finally got around to playing The Evil Within.  The first three chapters are disappointing; it is mostly a stealth game, and not a very good one.  However, it really picks up at the end of Chapter 3 and through Chapter 4; you can start decking out your character and feel like you can actually have a chance during combat, and you don't sneak around as much.

Basic Role-Playing.  It is the foundation percentile system that Call of Cthulhu uses (i.e. you roll percentile dice and try to get under your target number/skill rating).

The Quick Start rules/scenario do a fine job easing you into the game.

It isn't a complex game, really; the basic mechanics are BRP (same system as Call of Cthulhu).  There are some nitty-gritty things that take some getting used to, but the biggest challenge is understanding the setting and how to play it.  That might take some getting used to, but it is worth sticking it out.

As an aside, there IS a Fate conversion in the works, and you can get the first playtest draft here:

http://eclipsephase.com/readme-ep-transhuman-fate-playtest-forum-guidelines

I've read it, and like the way the rules are presented, but I have yet to play it, so I can't say if it is worth playing instead of the base game.  Still, it is an option, and might make digesting the setting easier.

I am currently drinking a beer while working on a thesis with a kitty on my lap.

I hate you, Ross.

Thanks to the RPPR Facebook group, I have officially been given the go-ahead to prepare a campaign for D6xD6 to playtest a few new optional rules we've developed for campaign play and horror games. . .

. . . using Alaskan Igloo Tales as the campaign frame.

Scenario 1 --> The Traders (in which one of the traders is a flying, flaming head.)

Thanks, RPPR!  :D

Reading the playtest draft of Transhumanity Fate (Eclipse Phase's official Fate conversion) has pushed it to the top of my queue.  Has anyone tried it out?

I've been reading some Richard Laymon recently; for whatever reason I never heard of him until Amazon had a deal on some of his books.  Very fun, very subversive horror.
