Role Playing Public Radio Podcast / The Arcadia Signal
« on: February 22, 2010, 02:26:40 PM »
Just got finished listening to Arcadia signal - good job, fun, etc.

But, I have to say, Ross' mention of the signal being "omniscient" and Cody repeatedly calling it "The Winslow" made me wonder if it had ever blighted the crops, or vanquished evil, or answered the phone before it rang.

I learned that the more details the person speaking provides when describing something, the more important it'll be later on.

Centralia is a borough and ghost town in Columbia County, Pennsylvania, United States.

The Door to Hell.

The Derweze area is rich in natural gas. While drilling in 1971 geologists accidentally found an underground cavern filled with natural gas.  The ground beneath the drilling rig collapsed, leaving a large hole with a diameter of about 50-100 meters. To avoid poisonous gas discharge, it was decided to burn the gas.  Geologists had hoped the fire would go out in a few days but it has been burning ever since.

English Russia has a wealth of photos of abandoned Russian cities, military bases, and underground complexes.

he says he has his whole conquest planed out

In other words, he has your whole campaign planned out.

Are you willing to let a player determine the course of the adventure? If so, sure, have fun. On the other hand, if you have a story arc you want to actually run the characters through as opposed to letting them sandbox, then this dude is death not only to your storyline, but also to your ability to direct and control the campaign.

First off, is that Richard Kind?

Second, we all know he just saved the world, or at least the little portion of it he lives in, and the reason he won't talk is because nobody will believe the truth.

Forgot about this until today when I found ABWH on Grooveshark.

I've gotten a lot of inspiration for fantasy-style adventures from the seemingly random lyrics of Jon Anderson. In fact, I ran an entire campaign based off of the Anderson/Bruford/Wakeman/Howe album. Yes "Union" is another good one with random new-agey nonsense lyrics.

Granted, that music's not everyone's cup of tea, and it makes terrible game music, but it's got some weird/cool sentence fragments that a creative mind can take and expand upon.

I wasn't going to say it.

But, I'll admit to pulling some of my best ideas from really horrible schlock movies. In fact, one of the best TMNT games I ever ran lifted heavily from "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes".

I've actually been considering that one. I've got a campaign coming up that's sort of an X-Files/Psi-Factor/Fringe monster-of-the-week thing and I've got a whole see monster adventure planned out based on the Bloop and the lonely whale.

I've really been wracking my brains tho' to come up with a punchline that doesn't involve the Cthulhu mythos at all.

My first handful of recordings were done on an Olympus DS50 I scored on eBay for $65. I'm really surprised by how well that thing did with just the stock mic.

However, I upgraded to Giant Squid's Podcasting mics and the difference is amazing. They're worth every penny. I've got them mounted from the ceiling above the gaming table and it's completely eliminated table thumps and dice roll washout. It took some finagling to find the right settings in the DS50 for those mics, but once I found the sweet spot our recording quality went way up. Unfortunately, it was like 10 episodes before I dialed it in.

I'd say you can get away with a cheap recorder provided it A. has enough memory to store decent quality recordings and B. has the option to upgrade the microphones.

Yeah, I've heard the episode, just didn't make the connection. I was enjoying Immortal to the point where throwing in the Witchblade didn't surprise me in the least.

I'd be in for an XL. But question - the $17 doesn't make it seem like you're actually making anything off of it, have you considered just putting them on Zazzle so they can be ordered in singles?
