RPGs / Re: Thoughts on Burning Wheel?

I have not played Mouseguard, but I did play Burning Wheel:  The Gift at Fear the Con.  There is so much replace potential in that module.  Overall though I really liked the system.  The debate mechanics are particularly fun.

NO WAY I CALLED IT FIRST

RPPR is totally going to do this as our next episode

I was thinking about suggesting it for Fear the Boot.  It would be hilarious if three podcasts all dropped with the same topic.

I'm kind of torn.  I typically like to let players roll for anything, but I also would not want to ever let one player control another.  All the players can really control is their character and to take that away takes away takes away what they have to contribute.  I understand where Aron is coming from, but allowing that roll is a VERY risking thing.  I would not second guess a GM who made either call.  I would second guess a GM who did allow the roll and didn't allow the other player a chance to roll a defense or counter persuasion roll.

I would also be pissed if I were a player and someone else rolled to make my decision for me and my character ended up doing something I felt was out of character for them.

I enjoyed the end.  You did not go where I expected you to with the story.

RPGs / Re: Doppleganging

Game masters I've talked to have done similar things. They usually tell the kidnapped player and let them play the doppleganger.

This happened recently in my gaming group.  The GM waited for a while to tell the player though so he would act fairly normally because his doppelganger was good at impersonating him.  It was all revealed during a battle when he started shooting us in the back.  We never suspected anything and it was quite a bit of fun for all involved.  We even thought that it was just something deflecting his spells because he is a player character and couldn't possibly be a traitor.

RPGs / Re: Recommended Actual play podcasts

RPPR is the only actual play that I have enjoyed.  I have tried quite a few and generally the only thing they are good for is putting yourself to sleep.  This was the first actual play that actually was entertaining.  I'm curious to try what others recommend here as well because I for one can't find anything even remotely comparable.

I am happy with how it is now, but quality is definitely more important than size to me.

We used to refer to the bathroom at work as our "office"  I by printing and just bringing in books read the entire Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and Lord of the Rings series while in the bathroom at work.  I have been there over 7 years so I had plenty of time, but to be honest the reading happened all in a year or so.

I have been enjoying this actual play so much that I went out and bought the Pocket Handbook for Mutants and Masterminds entirely based on how much fun it sounded here.  I am typically not a fan of most actual plays, but RPPR is certainly the exception.  Age of Masks in particular has me on the edge of my seat.  It is a strong story with a solid setting and interesting characters.  Keep up the good work and I can't wait for the next episode to drop.
