I'll pick it up: I've never actually read any Ligotti, since his work's so hard to find.

Thanks for giving it a read guys!

If anybody wants to write a review, (either on RPGNow or elsewhere) it would be greatly appreciated.

Only if you get me in an actual online game not cursed by Florida hurricanes. *Shakes fist at the sky*

But yeah, I'll be writing a review once I finish reading it.

I got my digital copy last night! I love the portrait of my character in the book: he looks like a goofball with no plan trying to be serious.

Oh, there's a new Harkaway novel?  I preferred The Goneaway World to Angelmaker, but they're both really good. I'm currently reading the works of Tim Powers: I really dug Last Call and On Stranger Tides.

Players pick a fight with slum lords for no good reason, and get stomped horribly. They then force a drunk to sell his arm to said slum lords to pay a bar tab. Then they drink for two days. The end.

I listened to a few of RPPR's episodes without getting super into it, but Bryson Springs hooked me. It's just a genius scenario, and professor Badass made it all the better.

If we're looking at quick and easy recipes, my go-to is orange miso chicken cutlets. just mix miso paste and orange marmalade together in equal parts, tenderize the cutlets, then rub the glaze on the chicken. Let them sit for half an hour, then saute on medium-high until they're cooked through. Super simple, great on an asian-style salad dressing.

I made beer braised pork belly last night, which was great, and just put the finishing touches on an oxtail soup that's been cooking overnight: it's so nice to wake up to a hearty soup.

Evil Hat is making a boardgame based on Don't Rest Your Head. And it has less than a day to go.

What are other peoples go to cook books or cook book series.

I got a few other specialty ones I turn to but the cooks illustrated ones are the place I often start at.

I poke around a lot on the internet, looking for fun things, but if we're talking cookbooks, my go-to is usually Open Range. It's by a family friend, and the book's focus is on simple hearty meals: very Americana food. I'm a major carnivore, so the book also caters to me that way.

I'm also a huge fan of the Food FFS Tumblr just for the sheer variety of it: new recipe every hour, in all sorts of crazy directions. It gave me the inspiration to cook french onion soup, beef wellington, and homemade salted caramel mousse for my wife for Valentine's day. Also, gave me an awesome recipe for spicy pulled pork that always makes me look like a fancy cooking god, but is drop-dead simple.

I'm doing a pre-Thanksgiving thing tonight with a bunch of friends, and I didn't have any particular recipe for stuffing to use; looking up recipes, I found one purported to be coined by Marilyn Monroe of all people, so I made that. Gonna find out how it tastes in about 2 hours! It's a really weird recipe, too, calling for organ meat and ground beef.

I'm heading to my parents' house for Thanksgiving proper, so I'm not doing a lot of cooking, but I've decided to make smash-fried potatoes. Basically, you partially boil a potato (fingerlings work best, since they cook through fast) until they're just a little soft, then half-crush it with a potato smasher: just enough so it's flat, not enough to fall apart completely. Then, throw it in a large pan with about half a cup of olive oil and fry em up until they're golden on both sides. Looks super fancy, tastes great, and you can throw pretty much any kind of garnish on it to change the taste. It's a chameleon-like recipe.

RPGs / Re: Your most RIDONKULOUS character evah

I have so many ridiculous character ideas that I'm not sure I can pick one, but a recent favorite comes to mind.

Moses Jensen-Zhang, producer for This American Life and NPR true believer.

This was during the No Soul Left Behind Playtest: Moses was planted at Brighter Futures Academy, doing a year-long story on charter schools. When the school was attacked by supervillains, he confused the Headless Headsman by trying to interview him mid-intro. And then he was given the ability to turn into anyone and implant false memories with a touch: he was the only person in the party who ended up with no combat abilities whatsoever. It was a recurring joke that Moses would insist he could do something because he was "kind of a badass." Nothing out of the ordinary so far, right?

Halfway through the second game, I came up with Moses' villainous persona: Garrison Killer, a Prairie Home Companion themed supervillain. His mask was a giant green papier mache head of Garrison Keillor, like some sort of weird ugly white dude Carnivale, and he made constant jokes about Lake Wobegon, Guy Noir, and a bunch of NPR deep cuts. His evil vehicle was the Donor Drive, a Toyota Prius modded to increase in speed based on the amount of money NPR had received during that year's pledge drive, and he brainwashed the entirely elderly populace by seeding the city's Golden Corrals with powdermilk biscuits, mind control biscuits that make people fanatically loyal to public radio when eaten.

He had a medical marijuana license for anxiety. He carried around a flask full of milk. He laundered money by donating to NPR. In the final session, he tried to bribe a bunch of people with gluten-free cake.

"And that's the news from Lake Wobegon, where all the men are impossibly handsome, all the women are freakishly strong, and all the children are above your petty morality."

Angelmaker by Nick Harkaway.  A great romp with some serious ideas behind its slick facade, and if you can't use it as a gaming resource you're not trying hard enough.

Nick Harkaway's pretty great! I love that the book is one long tract about the philosophy of identity. I just picked up Acceptance by Jeff Vandermeer: I'm curious to see what'll happen with Area X.
