A "Call the Midwife" CoC adventure is definitely needed.  I always suspected there was more to Sister Monica Joan's insanity than Alzheimer's.

RPGs / Re: Good RPG to run for complete gamer newbies? Please Help.

I've used the PDQ system (core behind Ninja Burger) and Spirit of the Century (sans feats which I found a bit too fiddly) to teach RPG noobs.  I used pregens for both and tried to keep the rules explanation as short as possible and then set up the scenario to ease them into more and more advanced rules (aka skill checks before straight up combat).

My general tips:
  • Make pregens
  • Dumb down the system a bit if necessary.  Keep things simple and streamlined
  • Make rules summary handout

House of Leaves is by far the scariest thing I've every read.

The best book you'll never read again.

5k reward:  Perhaps "Wages of Sin" could be adapted to have a horror aspect.   That scenario was dripping with atmosphere.

Role Playing Public Radio Podcast / Re: D&D Next

I think its a little early to completely trash the game.  They clearly haven't released everything yet.  And undoubted are going to be tweaking stuff based on our feedback.

That's true, but this isn't an alpha release and it may need more than tweaks.

I was honestly hoping they would do a 4.5E and give D&D Next a longer gestation period to mature.  Plus, I think Pathfinder hasn't crested yet.  I'd wait until there was a "need" for a new fantasy game.

<wave>

'lo everybody!  I'm a 30-something engineer who has been hooked on  tabletop roleplaying for about 7 years.

I didn't get introduced to RPGs until after college when a coworker invited me to join his D&D 3.5 campaign.  After that we played in a Mutants & Masterminds campaign that fell apart because there were too many "loner in a trench coat" characters.  Then I decided I wanted to try this GMing thing and started a Star Wars SE D20 campaign.  It ran for 5 years and completed three large story arcs.  The final session was earlier this spring *sniff*... *a tear*.

Somewhere along the way I started listening to RPG podcasts like RPPR and The Game Master Show and had my mind blown out my ears by the variety of gaming systems and settings.  I'm now the resident GM for my gaming group and am always trying to expand their horizons with new games (Eclipse Phase, Monsters & Other Childish Things, Ninja Burger, Spirit of the Century, PDQ, so far).

RPGs / Re: Star Wars in O.R.E. Yeah, I'm doing it.

I'm very interested in reading more about this as I'm doing a play test of Star O.R.E. in the near future.

I think Wild Talents might make for a better system for a full-fledged campaign.  Star O.R.E. was light on options for non-Jedi.

Hobbie Klivian, right? Digging the username/post combo.

Why thankyouverymuch.  And excellent recall =)
