Yeah, I tend to be of this mind too. I try not to plan too much, because the players will always try to do something I hadn't planned for. You certainly can't plan more than one session ahead. The only time I've managed it successfully was when I had pre-written a Prophecy right at the beginning and essentially railroaded them through it. Fortunately I had a party that was willing to play along. If I'd had a rebellious party it wouldn't have worked.

My current game, I have a vague idea of what else is going on in the rest of the galaxy and a loose timeline, but no real plan. Still works pretty well. :)

Anyone mentioned Seventh Sanctum yet? My one stop shop for random name generators.

Heh. Worst thing I've ever done to another player is get him burned to ash.

The situation: Rolemaster. My character was a Warrior Mage named Morgan (soon to gain the epithet Morgan Blackhand), my friend Victor was a Warrior Monk named Snapping Rotus. Yes, really. We were exploring ruins, because that's what you do.

We knew that there was a dragon in the vicinity. I (Morgan) convinced Rotus that the dragon couldn't possibly be in the area. Rotus would stand in front of the huge double door while I threw it open, so that he could attack whatever was behind it.

Oh man, I can't even recall this without breaking into hysterical laughter. You can guess what happened.

Shame really. Snapping Rotus was just beginning to gain some real depth as a character. We never even bothered trying to recover the ash.

The bonus is, in really violent games with guns, players want to specify what kind of gun they are using.  Players don't want to wield a heavy pistol, they want to wield an Israeli Arms .50 coliber Desert Eagle with chrome plating and a pearl handle with a dragon inscribed on it.
Only if they actually know something about guns, which not all violent players do. I play a Solo in a Cyberpunk game and I'm happy to refer to my 9mm jacked pistol and assault rifle. I don't really care what particular kind of gun it is. YMMV.

Most of my podcasts are non-gaming related, but RPPR is definitely in the top three.

The best prop I created was a business card for an NPC. I've been building up the "Men In Immaculately Tailored Suits" as a semi-antagonistic organisation for my players, and this is the first time they'd actually had a friendly encounter with one of them. To make the card, I went to Google Images and did a search for "creepy guy in suit". It turned out pretty good:

Because I rolled a critical failure on my spot check, I posted my introduction message elsewhere.

General Chaos / Hello!

There doesn't seem to be any generic introduction thread, so I'll make one.

Hi. I'm Arthwollipot.

I had an account on the old forums. I didn't realise that the forums had changed (it's been a while - you know, the whole Real Lifetm thing) and I lost my old account.

I'm currently running one game - Metascape, which is a space opera that uses a bizarre indie system which is free at the Mental Winds website. This podcast and the Roleplaying Tips & Tricks Newsletter have improved my GMing tremendously.

I was in an episode once - last Halloween I was the guy who had never run a horror game before. It was great to get mentioned on the show, however peripherally, and now I have a podcast of my own, although it's not game-related and therefore probably of little interest to readers of this forum.

Love the show guys. I love the way you think about roleplaying. I've always thought about the hobby - what I like about it, what I don't like, what works and what doesn't - and it's great to see some guys who also do that. I've been listening since about episode 4.

Unfortunately, my download capacity (and listening time) is limited, so although I've listened to a number of Actual Play sessions (I absolutely LOVED the April Fool game :) ), I don't think I can reasonably keep up with the New World campaign. They're big downloads. That's sad, because I have been really enjoying it so far. :(

So anyway, now that I've pimped my links, I'll try and post here a little more often than I have been before.

Cheers!
